SANDY MINNER GODFREY

CAMERON — Sandy Minner Godfrey, 76, of Cameron, died Sunday (3/9/14) at his home.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Eugene Ussery officiating. Burial will follow at New Life Fellowship Church Cemetery in Olivia.

He was born in Sanford on Dec. 5, 1937, to Milton Sandy and Willie McGehee Godfrey. He spent his working career as a skilled self-employed general contractor. He was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Godfrey; his parents, Milton Sandy and Willie McGhee Godfrey; three brothers, Wade, Jack and Bobby; and a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Wimberly.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rachel Cook Godfrey; five children, Victor Godfrey and wife Sheila, Tim Godfrey and wife Rita, and Kimberly Godfrey Solomita and husband Frankie, all of Cameron, Dwayne Godfrey and wife Denise of Chadbourn, and Diane Godfrey Collins and husband Chris of Lincolnton; four sisters, Dollie Carmichael of Olivia, Joyce Ann Simpson of Sanford, Peggy Williams of Cary and Bonnie Carmichael of Georgia; four brothers, Johnny, Willie and Daniel, all of Sanford, and Tommy of Cameron; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Cox Memorial Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Hospice, 1005 Carthage St., Sanford, N.C. 27330.

JIMMY LEWIS SESSOMS

SANFORD — Jimmy Lewis Sessoms, 75, of Sanford, died Sunday (3/9/14) at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was born on Sept. 7, 1938, in Lee County, to the late Ernest Sessoms and Allie Mae Causey Sessoms. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Faye Ulrich Sessoms; a brother, Ronnie Sessoms; and a sister, Carla Jo Johnson. He worked at General Electric in the Tool and Dye Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Sessoms England and husband Robert of Concord, Kathy Barfield and husband Eric of Blythewood, S.C., Robyn Sessoms Corpus and husband Carl of Wilmington, and Jamie L Sessoms and Jeff George of Wilmington; a brother, Tommy Sessoms and wife Jean of Sanford; a sister, Mickey Spivey and husband Eddie of Sanford; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Sanford First Pentecostal Church with Pastor Greg Long officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery.

JULIUS LEE LASSITER

MONCURE — Julius Lee Lassiter, 60, of 393 Haywood Road, Moncure, died Friday (3/7/14) at Wake Med in Raleigh.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Knotts Funeral Home in Pittsboro.

He is survived by his sons, Romero and Julius Carnegie, both of Siler City; one daughter, Tiwona Lassiter of Siler City; two sisters, Barbara Faye Lassiter and Claudia Mae Lassiter, both of Moncure; one brother, Roger Lassiter of Moncure; three grandchildren; three Godchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Arrangements are by Knotts Funeral Home in Pittsboro.


EVELYN HOLLIS

FAYETTEVILLE — Evelyn Hollis, 57, of 9327 Castle Falls Circle, Fayetteville, died Friday (3/7/14) at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville.

The family are receiving friends at the home of her sister, Linda Judd, 3410 Renee Drive, Sanford.

Arrangements will be announced by Knotts Funeral Home.


RUTH NICKENS BROWN

SANFORD — Funeral service for Ruth Hazel Nickens Brown, 83, of Sanford, who died Friday (3/7/14), was held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Shane Wilson officiating. Burial followed at Cameron Town Cemetery in Cameron.

Recorded music was played.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Brown, Jason Brown, Travis Nickens, Avery Hutchens, Gene Farrell, Tim Garrity, Erik Hudson, Tim Nickens and Donnie Cox.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.


JOHN RYAN PARKER

BROADWAY — Funeral service for John Ryan Parker, 8 months, who died Wednesday (3/5/14), was held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Holly Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Parsons and Bishop Stephen Athens officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Pianist was Tim Copas. Soloist was Audrey Horton and a duet of Shannon Davis and Alan Smith sang.

Pallbearers were Todd Matthews, Tyler Matthews, Travis Holder, Zach Cockman, T.J. Boatwright, Ian Bohn, Elton Hardison, Jonathan Thibodeaux, Alex West and Tyler Dickerson.

Arrangements were by O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home.


TAMMY LEIGH PRESSLEY DAWSON

CAMERON — Funeral service for Tammy Leigh Pressley Dawson, 54, of Cameron, who died Thursday (3/6/14), was held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Johnsonville Church of God in Cameron with Ray Moore officiating.

Recorded music was played.

Pallbearers serving were Steve Frye, Terry Williams, John Lawton, Bobby Canellas, Ronnie Smith and William Lawton.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.


EDWARD EUGENE MASSA

CAMERON — Funeral service for Edward Eugene Massa, 47, of Cameron, who died Thursday (3/6/14), was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Olivia Presbyterian Church with the Rev. George Walton and the Rev. Curtis Norris officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

During the service, the congregation sang and the Rev. Curtis Norris was the soloist. Pianist was Holly Walton.

Pallbearers were Justin Massa, Blake Massa, Phillip Massa, Frank Massa IV, Mike O’Quinn and Joe Boyd.

Arrangements were by Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.


CALVIN REECE HARDEE JR.

SANFORD — Calvin Reece Hardee Jr., 76, of Sanford, died Monday (3/10/14) at the First Health Hospice House in Moore County. Arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

BARBARA SHAFER MILLER

SANFORD — Barbara Shafer Miller, 85, died Sunday (3/9/14) at Pinelake Nursing Home in Carthage.

She was born in Carbon County, Pa., on Nov. 14, 1928, to Alfred and Miriam Shafer. She was a retired school teacher. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Cochran; her parents, Alfred and Miriam Shafer; and a sister, Nancy Rue.

She is survived by three children, Sue Porr and husband Richard Galloway, and Tom Miller and wife Stacy, all of Sanford, and Amy Bartlett of Georgia; a sister, Mary Jane Ritter of Pennsylvania; and nine grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 312 N Steele St., Sanford, N.C. 27330.

Services are planned for a later date.
