DEVERA ANN FRENCH

SANFORD — Devera A. French, 45, of 301 Abbott Drive, Sanford, died Wednesday (3/12/14) at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.

She is survived by her son, Glenn French; two grandchildren; six sisters, Wanda McLean (Ronnie), Mamie Nettles, Marilyn French, Cynthia French, Lessie French and Pandora French, all of Sanford;  and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lula Mae French; her aunt, Barbara Bridges, and a nephew.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m.,Tuesday at True Gospel United Church of God, Sanford. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Garden in Sanford.

Funeral arrangements are by Knotts Funeral Home in Sanford.

 

DEBORAH F. HEADEN

SANFORD — Deborah F. Headen, 62, of 803 Pine Ridge St., Sanford, died Wednesday (3/12/14) at The Laurels of Chatham, Pittsboro.

She is survived by her husband, Lewis Colden Headen of Pittsboro; one daughter, Melissa Daria Albritton (William) of Winston-Salem; one stepson, Jermaine Colden Rogers of Pittsboro; her mother, Beverly Ann Black-Floryanzia of Sanford; five brothers: Antonio Ricardo Floryanzia (Velma) of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dorian Albert Floryanzia of Sanford, Tyrone Darren Floryanzia (Pam) of Apex, Darryl McSwain and Donnie McSwain (Janet); seven sisters: Yuvonne Antoinette Floryanzia, Rachelle Marie Augustine of Sanford, Donna Denise Floryanzia-Pena (Javier) of Bronx, N.Y., Karen Leslie Floryanzia-Maldonado of Sanford, Jacqueline McSwain-Walden of Durham, Pamela McSwain of Raleigh and Helen McSwain-Coleman of Durham; a godson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Union Grove AME Zion Church, Bear Creek. Burail will follow in the church cemetery.

MARY STEWART PERRY

SANFORD — Mary Stewart Perry, of Sanford, died Saturday (3/15/14).

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Perry was born in Lee County, the daughter of the late JW Stewart and Florence Miller Byrd Stewart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Worth E. Perry. For more than 40 years, Perry volunteered with the Central Carolina Hospital Auxiliary and knitted baby caps for every child born there.

Perry is survived by her son, Jimmy Perry and wife Jennifer of Willard; one grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Fellowship Hall at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.

CARTHAGE — Betty Jean Alleyne, 68, of 2972 Underwood Road, Carthage, died Saturday (3/15/14) at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

HENRY LILES UPCHURCH

ELK PARK — Henry Liles Upchurch, 75, of 256 Elk Park School Road, Elk Park, died Thursday (3/13/14) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.

He was born Oct. 11, 1938, in Lee County to the late Frank and Katherine Winfield Upchurch.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lorraine Upchurch; sons, David, John, Jesse and William Upchurch; sister, Dorasue Burns Christian; and a host of other relatives and friends.

WILLIAM OTIS TUCK JR.

RALEIGH — William Otis Tuck Jr., 64, of 210 Apt. D Park Ave., Raleigh, died Friday (3/14/14) at his residence.

MAGALINE “MEG” ROSSER THOMAS HUNTER

BROADWAY — Funeral for Magaline “Meg” Rosser Thomas Hunter, 89, of Broadway, who died Tuesday (3/11/14) was held at  2p.m. Friday at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Gregg Presnal officiating.

Witness of love was given by granddaughter Gina Carter Butler. Burial followed at the church cemetery with a special dove-release ceremony.

Ronnie Byrd was the accompanist. Soloist was Bill Gross who sang two solos, and the group consisting of Kathryn Waters, Sue Buie, Sylvia Thomas, Bill Gross and Gregg Presnal sang one song. The congregation also sang two hymns.

Pallbearers were Dale Barnhill, Bob Morris, Danny Rosser, Mark Rosser, Mike Rosser, and Gary Thomas.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

 

VIRGIL LESLIE COLE

SANFORD — Funeral for Virgil Leslie Cole, 96, of Sanford, who died Thursday (3/13/2014) was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Chapel Christian Church with Rev. Bob Yandle and Rev. Joel K. Murr officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Pianist was Betty Sue McNeil. Organist was Linda Spivey.

Soloist was Donald Perrell. Organ solo was by Danny Hester.

Active pallbearers were Junior Cole, Larry Morris, Doug Roscoe, Keith Bobbitt, David Hester and Weldon Chilton. Honorary pallbearers were Horace Salmon, Todd Hinnant, Dale McKinney, Barney Cranford, Wesley Parrish and Tom McCoy. The Annie Belle Register Sunday School Class sat together as a group.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
