SANFORD — Richard Gregory Carnegie Jr., 30, of the 300 block of Parkwood Drive, Sanford, died Thursday (6/27/13) at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and are by Knotts Funeral Home.



SANFORD — Elizabeth “Libby” Ann New Davis, 70, of Sanford, died Friday (6/28/13).

She was born Nov. 22, 1942, in King and Queen County, Va., to Marshall Carl New Sr. and Mary Kathleen Powers New.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Andrew Allen Davis of the home; her daughter, Donna Tillerson & husband Scott of Apex; her sons, Steve Davis of Moncure, Eric Davis & wife, Linda of Rocky Mount, Butch Davis & wife Wendy of Rocky Mount, and Alex Davis & wife Susan of Sanford; her brother, M.C. New Jr. & wife Ann of Rocky Mount; her sister, Jeanette Riddle & husband Ben of Morganton; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hall – Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro, NC. Friends may visit with the family following the service. Online condolences may be left at, select “Obits”.

SANFORD — Marvin Douglas McKinney, 53, of the 5000 block of Oakhill Drive, Sanford, died Wednesday (6/26/13) at his residence.

He is survived by wife, Synovia Smallwood McKinney of the home, a daughter, Keosha G. McKinney, eight grandchildren; his grandmother, Ella McKinney of Pittsboro; a sister, Josie D. McKinney of Pittsboro; two brothers, Grady D. McKinney of Chapel Hill, and Rev. Ricky R. & Marilyn A. Rader McKinney Sr.; and a host of relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Staunton Memorial CME Church, Pittsboro. Burial will follow in Pittsboro Cemetery.

SANFORD — Frances Waddell Angel, 85, of Sanford, died Friday (6/28/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

She was born on Dec. 19, 1927, in Harnett County to the late John Waddell and Addie Page Waddell.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Sanford Angel, and brothers, James Waddell, Alfred Waddell and M.Q. Waddell.  She was a member of Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church.

She is survived by sons, Harry Wade Angel and wife Donna of Liberty, Dr. Stanley Michael Angel and wife Leann of Columbia, S.C., Kenneth Randall Angel and wife Tommie of Sanford; daughters, Lorraine Angel Greco and husband Ralph of Apex, Sandra Angel Cress and husband Michael of Lillington, and Rhonda Darlene Angel of Raleigh; brothers, Owen Waddell and wife Mary Frances of Durham, E.C. Waddell and wife Phyllis of Sanford; sister, Nellie Waddell Wilson and husband Alvin of Cameron; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Wood and Rev. Gilbert McDowell officiating.  Burial will follow at Jonesboro Cemetery.

CARTHAGE — Floyd Lee Rorie, 66, died Saturday (6/29/13) at Tara Plantation in Carthage.

A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Tuesday at Red Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott McInnis officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church.

A native of Moore County, he was the son of the late Floyd Cecil Rorie and Eunice Thompson Rorie. He was a graduate of Sandhills Community College, and owned and operated Carthage Saw & Mower.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Betty Burt Rorie; one son, Patrick Rorie of Raleigh; two sisters, Marie Bailey of Southern Pines and Jean McNeill of Aberdeen; one brother, Joseph Rorie of Southern Pines; and one granddaughter.
