SANFORD — Funeral service for Emmett Junior “Jim” Brooks, 79, of Sanford, who died Friday (7/25/14), was held Tuesday at 12 noon at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Russell Blackmon officiating. Burial followed at Lee Memory Gardens with full military rites.
Recorded music was played during the service.
Pallbearers were members of the Sanford Police Department.

MARTHA MORRIS LAWRENCE
SANFORD — Martha Morris Lawrence, 86, of Sanford, died Sunday (7/27/14).
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood with the Rev. Jim Hunsucker officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends from 12 until 1:30 p.m., prior to the service at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.
She was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Montgomery County to the late Albert Shuford and Sara Carolyn Flossie Morris. She was educated in Troy and was a graduate of Carolina Community College. She was a retired Certified Nursing Assistant of Liberty Home Care & Hospice (St. Joseph of the Pines, Inc.). She was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Johnny, Walter, Cladie, Odell and Whittie Morris; and sisters, Cathlene, Beatrice, Mary and Betty Lois.
She is survived by her son, Edward Sherwood and wife Linda of Flint, Mich.; daughter, Marty Kay Jamerson and husband Tony of Sanford; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

KEITH STEDMAN ROPER
PITTSBORO — Keith Stedman Roper, 64, of Pittsboro, died Friday (7/25/14) at UNC Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Chatham County on June 15, 1950, son of the late Randolph Cecil Roper and Alice Rives Roper.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at 314 John Horton Road, Apex, with the Rev. Robert Wacho officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Pamella Cash-Roper; three daughters, Diana Sue Huff of Fayetteville, Melissa Roper Korey (Tony) of Cary and Joanna Watters of Pittsboro; one son, Jesse R. Huff (Pamela) of Apex; three brothers, Errol Roper of Pittsboro, Gregory Roper (Susan) of Lemon Springs and Geoffrey Roper (Diane) of Apex; and five grandchildren.

JOHN M. BARRINGER
CARTHAGE — John M. “Bingo” Barringer, 79, of Carthage died Monday (7/28/14).
Born in Carthage, he was the son of the late Charles Franklin and Annie Ruth McIver Barringer. He was a graduate of the UNC School of Pharmacy and for years, a partner at Shields Drug in Carthage. He later worked in retail pharmacies throughout the area until his retirement in 1996. He continued as a member of the North Carolina and the Moore County Pharmacy Associations. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a Mason for 58 years. He served on the Board of Directors of First Carolina Bank and the Moore County Chapter of American Red Cross. He was a member of the Carthage Jaycees and a member of Carthage Volunteer Fire Department. In 1991, he received the Outstanding Citizen Award from The Rotary Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles F. Barringer Jr., and sisters, Ruth Barringer Nowell and Betty Barringer Thacker.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Carthage, conducted by the Rev. Dr. William M. Clark and the Rev. Dr. Thomas W. Currie. The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center after the service. A private interment will be held at Cross Hill Cemetery at a later date.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Clark Barringer; daughters, Ruth Clark Barringer Smearman and her husband Scott of Wagram and Elizabeth “Beth” Barringer Houff and her husband Bowen “Bo” of Lewisville; three grandchildren; one great-grandson, and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
