SANFORD — Mrs. Mary Lois Lynthacum Doby, age 63, of Sanford, NC, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the FirstHealth Hospice House in Moore County.

She was born in Montgomery County, NC on January 14, 1951 to the late Jonah Lee Lynthacum and Mary Wilson Lynthacum. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Lynthacum. Lois was retired from GKN after 12 years of service and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Lois is survived by her husband of 34 years, Gary Lee Doby; two brothers, Harold Lynthacum of Candor, NC, Roy Lynthacum and wife Faye of Chuckey, TN; two sisters, Sara Smith of Albemarle, NC, Joann Hall and husband Keith of Biscoe, NC; and sister-in-law, Linda T. Doby and friend Rod Spivey of Sanford.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 1, 2014 from 6-8 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home and the funeral will be held Saturday, August 2nd at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Parker and Rev. Steve Johnson presiding. Burial will follow at Flat Springs Baptist Church cemetery.

WHISPERING PINES — Richard “Rick” Joseph Sauls, 63, was granted his angel wings, Monday, July 21, 2014 after battling cancer. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family.

He was a United States Army Veteran and he received the National Defense Service Metal and Expert M-16. He was a member of the VFW and Moose Lodge in Sanford.

Rick was such an easy going, kind person, with an awesome sense of humor. Besides making Kaye laugh and smile non-stop, Rick would say all through the day, "Have I told you today?" Kaye would say, "I think so but you can tell me again," Rick would reply, "I Love You," Rick always said "We can never tell people we love them too many times!"

Rick was actively involved with softball for most of his life, playing on teams, coaching, or just watching his friends and family play. Rick was also an avid sports fan; some of his favorite teams were The New York - Yankees, Duke - Blue Devils and the Dallas - Cowboys. Rick loved traveling, camping, fishing, the movies. and after meeting his wife, Kaye, he became an eager adventurer. Rick and Kaye loved trying new foods, places, beverages, and no matter where they were, being together and happy was their ultimate goal!

He is survived by his wife, Kaye Garner Sauls of Whispering Pines; daughters, Kristy Sauls Hood of Wendell, NC; Stormy Sauls Maynor of Sanford; sisters, Kim Sauls Hewitt of Carthage, Glenda Sauls Riggsbee of Sanford, Linda Sauls Kauffman of Sanford; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Waylon Perry Sauls; mother, Claire Agnes Bjorken Sauls; brothers, Eugene Gregory Sauls and Kenneth Edward Sauls.

The memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 12th at Priest Hill Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Archie Stephens officiating.

SANFORD — James Lyles, 67, of Sanford, died Tuesday (7/29/14) at Westfield Health & Rehab. Center.

He is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Brown of Camden, N.J.; two stepchildren, Coy Jr. McSwain (Sheryl) of Siler City and Gale McSwain of Sanford; two sisters, Dorothy Matthews and Ella Page; one brother, Frank Lyles (Vickie); four aunts; two brothers-in-law, Leonard Singletary of Atlanta, Ga., and Daniel Singletary of Sanford; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs AME Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

CAMERON — Memorial service for Gary Steven Sharman, 59, of Cameron, who died Saturday (7/26/14), was conducted Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Stephen Athans officiating. The family received friends following the memorial service in the church Cultural Hall.

Organist was Elyssa Sandoval, chorister was Kimmi West and the congregation also sang two special hymns. Special speakers were Kimberly Ritenour and Lee Marsh. Benediction was given by Carl Westlake.

SANFORD — Thomas Bernard Sykes, 43, of 4331 Lee Ave., Sanford, died Monday (7/28/14) at Central Carolina Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Tonetta Sykes; two children, Thurman Adonte' Rigsby (Geryliss) and Komaneque Thompson (Antonio); his parents, Thomas Bernard Sykes Sr. and Edna Sykes; three sisters, Cindy Prince, Edna Sykes and Natasha Rawls (Robert); brother, Commander Sgt. Major Christopher Crawford; a Goddaughter, Christiana Crawford; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Stevens Foundation Center. Burial will be at 12 p.m. Monday at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Jimmy Archie Stack, 55, of Sanford, who died Sunday (7/27/14), was conducted Tuesday in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Buffkin and Bobby Fletcher officiating. Burial followed at Holly Springs Baptist Church cemetery.

Recorded music was played. Soloists were Lily O'Quinn and Rev. Gary Buffkin, who each sang one special song. Lily O'Quinn also sang one song at the graveside.

Pallbearers were Jeremy Stack, Jason Stack, Ryan Stack, Steve Bostwick, Chris Davis and Tristen Reed.

SANFORD — Funeral service for John Wesley Palmer Jr., 55, who died Thursday (7/24/14), was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Knotts Funeral Home in Pittsboro. Burial was at Taylor Chapel Church Cemetery.

Soloists were Mildred Brooks, Dominique McDaniel and the Rev. Sylvia Degraffenreidt.

Pallbearers were Chris Cheek, Chris Turner, Joe Farrar, Richard Thompson, Larry Thompson, Neal Cheek and Steve Goldston.

BROADWAY — Betty Jane Jenkins Seelye, 92, of Broadway, died Monday (7/28/14) at her home.

She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on June 25, 1922, to the late Charles Raywood Jenkins and Eva B. Hinzman Jenkins. She served in the U.S. Navy and was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Brown and Kathleen Collins, both of Broadway.

CARTHAGE — Catherine Lucille Seawell Shields, 90, of the Putnam community died Wednesday (7/30/14) at her home.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cool Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.

A native of Moore County, she was a daughter of the late Hulen Ray and Effie Hughes Seawell. She worked in textile and later with her husband in farming. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Alton Shields; and a brother, Henry Seawell.

She is survived by a sister, Helen Thomas of Olivia; brothers, Gurney Seawell and wife Mable of Goldston, Ray Seawell, Floyd Seawell and wife Jackie, Linton Seawell and Eugene Seawell, all of Putnam; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home and other times at the home.
