MACK CARDELL BODENHAMER
BROADWAY — Mr. Mack Cardell Bodenhamer, age 69, of Broadway, N.C., died Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Liberty Commons Retirement Center in Sanford.
He was born in Stokes County, N.C. on February 11, 1945, to the late Charles Edward Bodenhamer and Myrtle Edwards Bodenhamer. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a son, William Avery Bodenhamer; grandchild, Courtney Cavanagh; and two brothers, Junior Bodenhamer and Bud Bodenhamer. Mr. Bodenhamer was a tobacco farmer.
He is survived by one son, David Bodenhamer and wife Donna of Broadway; daughter, Tammy Castleberry and husband Robin of Broadway; step-daughter, Kim Brown of Garner; step-son, Staton Brown of Sanford; sister, Maerene Thomas of Sanford; grandchildren, Amanda Castleberry, Tyler Castleberry, Charli Bodenhamer, Gaberiel Bodenhamer, Scottie Bodenhamer, Heather Bodenhamer and Ashley Jackson; great-grandchildren, Connor Castleberry, Kelci Castleberry, Kyleigh Bodenhamer, Brooklyn Bodenhamer, Adam Cavanagh, Landon Jackson and Aiden Bodenhamer; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Monday, August 4, 2014 at 7:00 PM at Holly Springs Baptist Church with Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM also on Monday evening at the church and also at the home of Tammy and Robin Castleberry, 401 Vernon Street, Broadway, N.C.

BEAR CREEK — H L Brewer, 74, of Bear Creek died Thursday (7/31/14) at Randolph Hospice Home in Asheboro.
He was a native of Chatham County, attended Bonlee High School and was a member of Oakley Baptist Church and the Pauline Powers Friendship Sunday School Class. He was a truck driver and retired from Clapp's Trucking of Asheboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bessie Jessup Brewer; two sons, Michael Brewer and Scottie Brewer; a grandson; and a brother, Jim Brewer.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Betty Garner Brewer; daughter-in-law, Teresa Brewer of Melvern, Ark.; five sisters, Ann Thrift, Joan Webster (Russell), and Merlyn Moody (Larry), all of Siler City, Judy Freeman (James) of Pleasant Garden, Priscilla Thompson (Frankie) of Liberty; one brother, Robert Brewer (Hazel) of Asheboro; sister-in-law, Ruth Brewer of Bear Creek; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
The family will receive friends today (8/3/14) from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City. A service of remembrance will be held Monday (8/4/14) at 2 p.m. at Oakley Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Ellison officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

DIANNE HUDSON MURCHISON
VASS — Dianne Hudson Murchison, 63, of Vass, died Monday (7/28/14).
She was born in Vass on July 31, 1950, to Conrad Leroy and Mary Magdalene Hudson.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday (8/3/14) at 3 p.m. at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Vass with Pastor Robbie Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Johnson Grove Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Roger Wayne Murchison, Jr.; two grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Carson and Terry Hudson; and a great-grandson.

He was born in Syracuse, N.Y., on Sept. 8, 1957, to Jack Curry and Joyce Hotaling Nims.
He is preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his father and his sister, Christine Nims.

SOUTHPORT — Dianne Smith Metcalfe, 59, of Southport, died Friday (8/1/14) at Duke Regional Hospital.
She was born in Alabama on March 5, 1955, to the late Howard Smith and Lillian Olivia Hayes Smith. She worked 25 years in Human Resources for Moen.
She is survived by her husband, Timothy Metcalfe; son, Trey Mills; daughter-in-law, Nancy Mills; stepdaughter, Jennifer Davis; brother, Danny Smith; sister-in-law, Debbie Smith; sisters, Rebecca Harrington, Faye McLain and Debbie Fore; brother-in-law, Dennis Fore; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Monday (8/4/14) at 11 a.m. at Buffalo Cemetery with Pastor Darin Moore officiating. There will be no formal visitation.

PITTSBORO — Oscar Palmer, 67, of Pittsboro, died Monday (7/28/14) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
He is survived by wife, Norma Renia Palmer; four children, Deena Williams, Jackie Annette Pennie, Michelle Shaw and LaShonda Smith; three brothers, Norman Palmer (Linda), Wayne Palmer (Cherie), and James Palmer (Julia); three sisters, Wilma Palmer, Wanda McLean (Lacy) and Reba Ray; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; five sister-in-laws; five brother-in-laws, and a host of family and friends.

SANFORD — The funeral service for Mary Lois Lynthacum Doby, 63, of Sanford, who died Wednesday (7/30/14), was held Saturday (8/2/14) at 11 a.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel in Sanford with Rev. Brian Parker and Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Flat Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pianist Leah Everett, violinist Karen Huey, guitarist and soloist Harold Lynthacum and soloist Swannie Lawrence-Jewell provided music. Eulogies were provided by her brother, Harold Lynthacum, and her husband, Gary Doby.
Pallbearers were Rod Spivey, Ernest Marks, Russell Marks, Dwayne Smith, David Thomas and Wayne Hare.

CARTHAGE — Paul Edward Chisholm, 68, of Carthage, died Thursday (7/31/14) at his residence.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday (8/5/14) at 2 p.m. at Try Jesus Ministries in Sanford. Burial will follow at New Ben Salem Baptist Church in Robbins.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Chisholm; two daughters, Belinda Chisholm and Juanita McLaughlin; one stepdaughter, Christy Cheatham (Terry) ; three sons: Reggie Matthew; Terrence and Tyrese Chisholm; two stepsons, Tyrone Davis Jr. (Ashely) and Jeremy Davis; two sisters, Ruby Mae Davis (Jerimack) and Gladys McDougal (Paul); one brother, George Chisholm (Teresa); eight sisters-in-law, Mary Hampton, Oglatha Kelly (Freddie), Ida Monroe, Betty Hampton, Dorothy Thomas, Vanessa Monroe (Willie), Mable Russell (Kenneth) and Peggy Smith (Robert); 13 grandchildren; and host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

PINEHURST — George Richard Wendler, 65, of Pinehurst, died Thursday (7/31/14) at his home.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday (8/5/14) at 3 p.m. at Ephesus Baptist Church in Sanford with Dr. David Boroughs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors and Masonic rites.
He was born in Lancaster, Pa., on Oct. 5, 1948, to Rodney Kenneth and Dorothy Mae Wendler. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was also a member of Alberta 654 Masonic Lodge in West End.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy Frey Wendler; children, Michael “Bill” Wendler (Melissa), Erick Wendler (Amy), Derrick Wendler (Natalie), and Sean Graver (Cathy); and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cynthia.
A visitation will be held at Cox Memorial Funeral Home on Monday (8/4/14) from 6 to 8 p.m.

BEAR CREEK — Roger Vann Moody, 76, of Bear Creek died Friday (8/1/14) at Coventry House Of Siler City. He was born March 19, 1938, to Charles Lewis and Argie Moody.
He was a native of Chatham County. He was a retired Army SGM serving two tours of duty in the Vietnam war. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carol Moody.
He is survived by his son, Gary Moody; brothers, Charles, Jerry, Jimmy, Randy, Larry and Kenneth Moody; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday (8/4/14) from 7 to 9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday (8/5/14) at Sandy Branch Baptist Church in Bear Creek with Rev. Marc Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
