BROADWAY — Nancy Geneva McNeill Pilson, 87, of Broadway passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, August 4th, 2014.

Born in Harnett County, Geneva was the daughter of the late Oscar Bruce McNeill and Frances Elizabeth Buchanan McNeill. She was also preceded in death by husbands Junious Jack Sloan Sr. and Bruce Edward Pilson; infant son, Junious Jack Sloan Jr.; brothers, Leslie McNeill, Wilber McNeill, Odis McNeill, Fulton McNeill and Winfred McNeill.

She is survived by sister, Marjorie McNeill Holt and husband Edward of Sanford; nieces, Lisa McNeill Wilson and husband Neil of Sanford, Sheila Holt Thompson and husband Alex of Sanford, Donna Holt of Sanford, Marsha McNeill of Waco, Texas, and Marlene Symenk and husband Ted of Waco, Texas; nephews, Rodney Holt of Sanford and Rick McNeill of Sanford; great-nieces, Meagan Thompson Long of Cary, NC, Lauren Wilson Godwin and husband Jordan of Wilmington, NC, and Hannah Wilson of Sanford; and great-nephew, Jared Thompson of Watford City, ND.; special friends: Kathy Johnson, Charlene Harrington, Barbara Cook, Heather Byrd, Annette Thomas, Janette Byrnes, Tonya Byrd, Cynthia Alexander, Diane Lawrence and employees of Community Hospice.

Geneva was a lifetime member of Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church. She was also a longtime member/president of Business Professional Women. Geneva was a loyal employee of Sanford Construction Company for many years.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church. A visitation will be from 1 till 2 p.m. prior to the service.

SANFORD — Mrs. Juanita Key Hall, age 82, of Sanford, N.C., died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst.

Mrs. Hall was born on Feb. 12, 1932, in Surry County, to the late Clara Maud Hutchins Key and Gurnie Martin Key. She was also preceded in death by a son, John Wesley Hall; sisters, Betty Key Godfrey and Barbara Key Woodley and brothers, Glenn Key and Brady Key. Mrs. Hall was a longtime member of Sanford Church of God and former co-owner of Hall’s Floor and Wall Covering then Factory Carpet Outlet.

She is survived by her husband, Jack O. Hall of the home; a daughter, Anita Hall Leggette and husband Ferrell of Sanford; a brother, Javan Key and wife Joyce of Sanford; a sister, Judy Key McMillan Kellam and husband Tom of Hampstead; three grandchildren, Bradley Wright, Alex Leggette and Austin Leggette; two step-grandchildren, Cayce Leggette Clark and Jordan Leggette and two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Clark and Channing Clark.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 8, 2014, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Sanford Church of God. The funeral will follow at Sanford Church of God on Friday, August 8, 2014, at 7 p.m. with Rev. Tim Lanier officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Chapel Church Cemetery on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at 11 a.m.

SANFORD — Mary Frances McNeil Brown, 103, of 2914 Cameron Dr., Sanford, NC, died Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Westfield Health & Rehabilitation Center, Sanford, NC.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Fair Promise AME Zion Church, 712 Wall St., Sanford, NC; Viewing will be held one hour prior to service.

Frances was born July 11, 1911 in Harnett County, North Carolina to the late Arthur McNeil and Mary Massey McNeil. She was united in holy matrimony to Walter Brown and they were blessed with one daughter, Maxine Brown Trumbo. Frances was educated in the Lee County School System, and immediately began a career as a pastry cook for Fairview Restaurant, later becoming co-owner of Horton and Brown Cafe. As her career expanded, she became the owner of a lucrative sewing business: "Creations by Frances", many years later, she retired from caring for the Douglas Wilkinson family. Frances, legacy of 103 years, and fond memories are etched in the life of her daughter "Mickey"; eight nieces, three nephews, three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends. "Sister" as she was affectionately called will be sorely missed.

SANFORD — Todd Funston, 44, of Sanford, died Monday (8/4/14) at his home.

He was born in Lee County on Jan. 10, 1970 to Guy Funston of Newport and Frances “Fran” Rives Gardner of Sanford. He worked as a HVAC Technician for a heating and air company. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Kent Funston.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Steven Guy Funston of Stuart, Fla.; sister, Sharon F. Estes of Youngsville; three aunts and two uncles.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Oldham officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the funeral home.

SANFORD — Tilda Johnson, 61, of 1209 Bland Circle, Sanford, died Friday (8/1/14) at her residence.

She is survived by her children, William Earl Cameron II, Stacee Marie Cameron, and Vincent Sherrod Cameron, all of Sanford; seven grandchildren; her parents, Oliver (OC) and Dollie Johnson of Sanford, two sisters, Frieda Richards (Cliff) of Wilson, Conn., and Trudy Coggins of Sanford; four brothers, Oliver Johnson, Jr. (Hazel), Jerome Johnson (Sharon), Timothy Johnson and Tony Johnson, all of Sanford; one brother-in-law, John Crews of Greensboro; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at First Calvary Baptist Church. The entombment will follow the funeral at Lee Memory Gardens.

The wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Knotts Funeral Home.

BROADWAY — Memorial service for Mack Cardell Bodenhamer, 69, of Broadway, who died Thursday (7/31/14), was held Monday at 7 p.m. at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Broadway with Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating.

Recorded music was played.

The family received friends at Holly Springs Baptist Church on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service.

BROADWAY — Ruth Turner Micros, 88, of Broadway died Sunday (8/3/14) at Transitions Life Care in Raleigh.

She was born in St. Charles, Va., daughter of the late Claude David Turner and Thelma Page Turner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Micros; son, Michael D. Micros; and siblings, Doris Turner Brounda, Harry L. Turner, Robert L. Turner, Freda Turner Spear and Margaret Turner Feagan.

Memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Holly Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. Inurnment will follow at the church cemetery.

She is survived by her brothers, Tom Turner and wife Kay of Broadway, Richard Turner of Havana, Fla., and James Turner of Milledgeville, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Karen Micros of Broadway; and two grandsons.

CARTHAGE — Archie C. Peele Sr., 81, died Monday (8/4/14) at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. William Cooper and the Rev. Dr. William J. Maness Jr. Burial will follow with military honors at Trinity Bible Church Cemetery.

A native of Moore County, he was a son of the late Charlie C. Peele and Myrtle Quick Peele. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the 94th Field Artillery Regiment during the Korean Conflict and later serving in the National Guard. He retired after a long career with the N.C. Department of Correction. He was preceded in death by sisters Catherine Fry, Margaret Maness, Ruth Griffin and Hattie Cates, and a brother Vance Peele.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nellie Boyte Peele; daughters, Elizabeth Ann Hayes and husband Gerald, Lisa Buie and husband Timmy; sons, Archie C. Peele Jr. and wife Peggy, Tommy C. Peele and wife Melanie, all of Carthage; brother, Charlie Peele and wife Linda of Pittsboro; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. today and other times at the home.
