LILLIAN FAYE CASE MEEK
SANFORD — Lillian Faye Case Meek, 86, of Sanford, North Carolina and Murrells Inlet, South Carolina died Thursday, August 14, 2014 at St. Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
She was born on July 12, 1928 in Graysville, Tennessee to Charles Franklin Case and Jessie Wilson Case. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry Martin Meek; sisters, Saragene Case Turner, Carolyn Case Meek and brother, Charles F. Case, Jr.
Known fondly as Mama, Granny and Great-granny, Lillian is survived by her daughter, Loraine Faye Meek Cress and husband James A. Ryser; daughter-in-law, Katherine Hartman Meek Owen and husband Dale; seven grandchildren, Caprice Cress McNeill, William Cody Cress, III, Ashley Meek Hahn, Damon Martin Meek, Lindsay Meek Luton, Jessica Meek Peele and Whitney Meek Buechel. She was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren, Lillian Quinn, Warner, Ava, Banks, Callie, Chloe, Cameron Kate, Raleigh, Addison, Harrison and Skylar.
Ms. Meek was career civil service working as supervisor of medical records at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base in South Carolina. After retiring she then worked many years at Belk in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Lillian was also an original member of the Columbia, South Carolina meter maids.
A private graveside service for family will be held at Buffalo Church Cemetery on August 23, 2014 with Chaplain James Helton officiating. Following the burial, family and friends are invited to a celebration of Lillian's life at 6:30 p.m. at 2100 Lakeland Drive, Sanford, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The family greatly appreciates the excellent and compassionate care provided by the staff at SJP-Health Center.
Lillian was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her determination, stamina and warmth. She was an avid card and board game player showing her competitive side. She loved to read and had recently learned to use a Kindle. She was greatly loved and will be missed.

PITTSBORO — Gilbert “Gib” Ruth, 77, passed away in the early afternoon of Thursday, August 14 2014, at his home.
Mr. Ruth was born to the late Thomas Cook Ruth and Lorena Moore Ruth on March 6, 1937 in Chatham County, NC. He married the former Linda McLaurin on June 11, 1967. Gib worked for and retired from UNC University as an HVAC Technician. In addition to his parents, Gib was preceded in death by three brothers, John Moore Ruth, “T.C.” Thomas Cook Ruth and Donald Ruth; his sister, Joy Ruth Burke; and his niece, Kay Peedin.
Survivors include his wife, Linda of Pittsboro, NC; his niece, Sue Cagle and her husband Butch of Toms River, NJ; three great-nieces, Jennifer Bodnarchuk, Stephanie Cagle and Taylor Ruth Peedin; and a great-great-nephew, Nathan Bodnarchuk.
A funeral service for Mr. Ruth will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Mays Chapel Baptist Church in Pittsboro, NC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

SANFORD — Willie Lee Godfrey, 60, of Sanford, died Friday (8/15/14) at his residence.
He was born on June 19, 1954, in Lee County to the late Milton Sandy Godfrey and Willie Lee McGehee. He was also preceded in death by a son, Chris Godfrey, and brothers, Bobby Godfrey, Jack Godfrey, Wade Godfrey and Sandy Godfrey. He was a contractor.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Godfrey; sons, Darren Godfrey and Brian Godfrey and wife Karen, all of Sanford, brothers, Johnny Godfrey and wife Judy, and Daniel Godfrey and wife Nancy, all of Sanford, and Tommy Godfrey and wife Patti of Cameron; sisters, Peggy Williams of Raleigh, Bonnie Carmichael and husband Jim of Powder Springs, Ga., Joyce Simpson and husband Johnny of Carthage, and Dolly Carmichael and husband Fred of Sanford; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John David Stinnett. Burial will follow at New Life Fellowship Cemetery.

BROADWAY — David Joseph “Rabbit” Heron, 55, of Broadway, died Thursday (8/14/14) at First Health Hospice Center in Pinehurst.
He was born in Lee County, son of the late David Gordon Heron and Jewel Page Heron Rouse. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Baptist Chapel Church with the Rev. Alex Smith and the Rev. George Stallings officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Alston Heron; daughter, Amanda Heron of the home; son, Dustin Heron of the home; sisters, Julie Causey and husband Don of Sanford and Jennifer Lee Heron of Carthage; brother, James Lewis Heron of Sanford; and one grandson.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Fumiko Usuki Keiser, 89, of Sanford, who died Sunday (8/10/14), was held Friday at 3 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating.
