BROADWAY — Services for Thomas McAuley, 92, of 105 Mack Lane, Broadway, who died Wednesday (2/5/14) were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Love Grove AME Zion Zion Church, Sanford. Dr. Alfred Ferguson officiated. Interment was at Love Grove AME Zion Church Cemetery. Music was by the church choir. Pallbearers were Clifton McLean, Jimmy Lawrence, Elbert McLean, Gerald McLean, Calvin McNeill and Larry McAuley.

Arrangements were by Knotts Funeral Home.


SANFORD — Elsie Myrtle Clark Shields, age 91, of Sanford, died Tuesday (2/11/14) at her home.

She was born in Lee County on May 16, 1922, to the late Allen Richardson Clark and Carrie Clark. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Willie M. Shields; infant son, Jimmie Shields; son, Tommie Shields; and siblings, Otis L. Clark, Bobby R. Clark and Rachel Wood.

She was a homemaker and farmed alongside her late husband. She was a member of the Sanford Chapel for many years.

She is survived by two sons, Eddie Shields and Ronnie Shields; daughter, Annie McElroy, all of Sanford; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home, and the funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home, with Dennis Petry officiating. Burial will follow at Center United Methodist Church cemetery.

SANFORD — Almeta Crump, 88, of 3012 Khalif Court, Sanford, died Thursday (2/6/14) at Sanford Rehab.

She leaves to cherish her memories four children, Freddie Crump Bland (Charlie) of Sanford, Martha Jackson of Holley, Upper Marlboro, Md., Kristie Crump Smith (Marvlyn) of Angier, and Raymond Lee Crump (Belinda Moore) of Angier; a brother, Harvey Taylor (Delois) of Landover, Md.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; two nieces; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Prince Chapel Church, Corinth, N.C.

LILLINGTON — Louise Rocchetti, 78, of Lillington, died Sunday (2/9/14) at Central Harnett Hospital.

She was born in West Virginia to the late Joseph and Nellie Martin. She is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Abraham Rocchetti, and a brother, DB Martin.

She is survived by two daughters, Lynn Johnson and husband, Keith, of Wade; and Julie Shoemaker and husband, Ron, of Mamers; a son, John Rocchetti of New York; two sisters, Doris Canady and husband, Art, of Little River, S.C., and Gay Belodeau and late husband, Carl, of Lillington; and two grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held noon Friday in the chapel at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Ryan Barbato officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.

CAMERON — Funeral service for Roger Dean Boyd, 65, of Cameron, who died Saturday (2/8/14) was held Tuesday at noon at Rocky Fork Christian Church with the Rev. Kevin McHarg officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Soloist was Henry Grant. Recorded music was played at the beginning and end of the service.

Active pallbearers were Rickey Stone, Alan Miller, Leroy Stone, Johnny Stone, Decarlos Cain and Calvin Miller. Honorary pallbearers were Terry Vinson, Bud Boyd and Phillip Smith.

The family received friends at the church from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the funeral service and also at the church fellowship hall following the committal service. Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.


Charles Bronson Johnson Sr., age 91, of Sanford died Tuesday (2/11/14) at Liberty Commons of Sanford.

He was born in Mocksville on June 22, 1922, to the late Charles R. Johnson and Molly Honeycutt Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth S. Johnson; daughter, June J. Manning, and great-grandchild, June Howsden. He was a district manager for Trailways Bus Company. He was a member of Swann Station Baptist Church and was a Mason and Shriner.

He is survived by son Charles Johnson, Jr. and wife, Becky, of Gastonia; daughter Gwen McCormick and husband, Jimmy, of Sanford; brother J.P. Johnson of Raleigh; sister Gwen Warren of Winston, Ga.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Swann Station Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Blackmon officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church before the funeral service. Burial will follow at Cameron Grove Cemetery.
