MICHAEL ROBERT GARRETT

SANFORD — Mr. Michael Robert Garrett, age 58, of Sanford, NC, died Friday, February 14, 2014 at his home.

Michael is survived by his wife, Debbie Ann Mason Garrett of the home. He was born in Mebane, NC on September 26, 1955 to Robert M. Garrett and Patricia Davis Gibson. His father Robert M. Garrett and wife Libby live in Broadway, NC and his mother Patricia Gibson and husband Hubert live in Greensboro, NC. Michael graduated from Broadway High School in 1973 and was a Master Carpenter. Along with his lifelong friend, Randy Cress, they operated C & G Cabinet Shop for many years.

He and numerous friends formed the Heavy Handed Band over 30 years ago, playing their country and soft rock music in clubs within the surrounding four county area. Music was his passion. The sounds of his voice and the music from his prized Gibson Guitar will never be forgotten.

In addition to his wife and parents, Michael is survived by daughter Catherine Garrett and granddaughter Chloe of Fayetteville; brother Steven Garrett of Buies Creek, NC; half-sister Michelle Garrett Spencer and husband William of Wilson, NC; Stepsisters Tammy Bayles Lawson and husband Rick of Lillington, NC, Colleen Bayles Brueck and husband John of Raleigh, NC; stepdaughter Lisa Shelden of the home; stepson Chad Hasley and wife Kelly of Sanford; 6 step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a stepson Eric Hasley.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 16, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Monday, February 17th at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Dr. David Boroughs officiating. Burial will follow at Wayside Presbyterian Church cemetery.

JIMMY RAY COMER

ROBBINS — Jimmy Ray Comer, 60, of 1243 Caviness Town Road, Robbins, died Monday (2/10/14).

Funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Neal Jackson, Dr. Curtis Barbery and the Rev. Jamie Brown officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Sheryl L. Comer; daughter, Morgan Comer of Bennett and fiancée Matthew Evans of Statesville; son, Worth Comer and wife Jenny of Bennett; one granddaughter; mother, Ethelene C. Comer of Robbins; sisters, Joyce C. Garner of Bennett, and Judy C. Clendenin and husband Al of Robbins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ted Comer, and brother, Dean.

He previously worked with the N.C. Department of Corrections and was actively employed with the Moore County Sheriff's Department as a detention officer, where he worked for 17 years.

The family will receive friends today at Beulah Baptist Church in Bennett from 3 to 5 p.m., and other times at the home.

SANFORD — Palmer Godwin Pattishall, 87, of Sanford, died Friday (2/14/14) at Rex Rehabilitation Center in Apex. Arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

DAVID BENJAMIN RAY

SANFORD — David Benjamin Ray, 64, of Sanford, died Thursday (2/13/14) at his home.

He was born on Dec. 7, 1949, in Harnett County, to the late Watson Ray and Mazie Matthews Ray. He was employed by J.T. Davenport for a number of years. He was a member of Miracle Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, on the church advisory board, and was the head usher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thurman Ray and Gilbert Ray.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Crutchfield Ray; two brothers, Elmond Ray and wife Judy of Spring Lake and Eugene Ray and wife Wilma of Bunnlevel; several nieces and nephews and two Godchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Golson officiating. Burial will follow at Miracle Baptist Church Cemetery.

MARY ODESSA RICHARDSON

SANFORD — Mary Odessa Richardson, 72, of 106 Lightwood Lane, Sanford, died Friday (2/14/14) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Works For Christ Christian Center.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vanessa Ramona Cotton.

She is survived by one son, Tony A. Gilchrist (Karen) of Cameron; three daughters, Teresa M. Harris (Jason) of Spring Lake, Claudia D. Wright (Larry) of Tampa, Fla., and Nikkie Covington-Gilchrist (Chris) of Cameron; one sister, Ellen Gertrude Brewington (Henry) of Cameron, and a host of other relatives and friends.

MARVIN RICKETSON

SANFORD — Marvin Ricketson, 73, of Sanford, died Thursday (2/13/14) at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was born in West Green, Ga., on March 9, 1940, to the late George Dewey Ricketson and Effie Leigh Burkett Ricketson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kendall Earl Ricketson; brothers, Jacob E. Ricketson and George D. Ricketson Jr.; and sisters, Gladys Courson and Sara Kate Miller. He served in the U.S. Army and retired as a Master Sgt.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Sloan; sons, Marvin Ricketson Jr. and wife Sheila of Cumming, Ga., Tommy Gregory Ricketson and Troy Lewis Sloan and wife Tracy, all of Broadway; daughters, Cassandra Smith and husband Robert of Sanford, and Tonya Rudd and husband Collins of Broadway; sisters, Pearl Alexander of Stewarts Draft, Va., Mildred Kight of Broxton, Ga., and Martha Nell Webb of Waynesboro, Va.; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

SANFORD — Elva Kathryn Andrews Jones, 91, died Saturday (2/8/14).

A Service of Celebration of Life and Resurrection will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of West Market Street United Methodist Church, 302 W. Market St., Greensboro. Following the service, friends and family are invited to the church's Gathering Space to share fellowship, food and favorite memories.
