BILLY S. BOST

SANFORD — Billy S. Bost, 61, of Sanford died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jonesboro Baptist Church.

Mr. Bost was born in Sanford, son of the late Bill M. Bost and Edith Scott Buchanan Bost. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, a graduate of Western Carolina University and owner of Bud’s BBQ, and a member of the Sanford Lions Club.

Mr. Bost is survived by his wife, Denise Holt Bost; three sisters, Debbie Bost and David Parker of Carthage, Karen Bost Heymann and husband Harald of Apex, and Bobbi Bost Bruehl and husband Keith of Sanford; nieces, Madison Bruehl, Davis Holt and Peyton Holt.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home and other times at 1017 Clearwater Drive, Sanford.

RUBY DORIS NICKENS COX

SANFORD — Mrs. Ruby Doris Nickens Cox, age 86, of Sanford, NC, died Sunday, June 2, 2013 at her daughter Linda's home.

She was born in Moore County on August 23, 1926, to the late Ralph Buck Nickens and Gusey Oldham Nickens. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Elbert Cox, Sr.; six brothers, Ardele, Raymond, Hubert, Ralph, Luke and Cecil; and two sisters, Alice Jones and Thelma Goode.

Mrs. Cox was a homemaker and member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by son, Donald Elbert Cox, Jr. and wife Beth of Sanford; daughter, Linda Cox Sharpe and husband Van of Sanford; brother, Harold Nickens and wife Ruth of Cameron; two sisters, Josephine Pulliam and husband Thomas of Sanford and Ruth Brown and husband Bill, also of Sanford; and one granddaughter, Rebecca Medlin and husband Sonny Baltin and one great-grandchild, Haven Baltin.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church cemetery with Chaplain Joel Cameron presiding. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall.

SANFORD — Lessie Lee Thomas Dinkins, 90, died Saturday (6/1/13) at her home.

She was born in Moore County to the late Ernest Jasper Thomas and Algay Burns Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Martin Dinkins Sr.; sons, Jesse Martin Dinkins Jr. and Ernest Richard Dinkins; brothers, Ernest James Thomas, Bobby Thomas and Hurley Thomas; and sisters, Pauline McKinney and Lillie Mae Thomas Arnold.

She is survived by a son, Bernice Dinkins and wife Brenda of Jonesville; a daughter, Betty Dinkins Williams and husband Lonnie of Sanford; brothers, Ernest June Thomas of Sanford and Waylon Blue Thomas and wife Rachel of Concord; sisters, Lois Key of Vass, Mary Upchurch and husband Avron, Peggy Gaines and husband Doyle, and Maxine Measamer, all of Sanford; daughter-in-law, Jackie Harmon Dinkins of Greensboro; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral service was conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at the Church of God with the Rev. David Kimbrell officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at Lee Memory Gardens today at 11 a.m.

BUIES CREEK — Hazel B. Hare, 70, died Saturday (6/1/13) at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

She was a Detention Officer at the Harnett County Sheriff’s office for 19 years.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Buies Creek First Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, A.G. Hare; two sons, Stephen S. McLean and wife Tammy of Smithfield, and Randall G. Hare and wife Bonnie of Bentonville; a daughter, Michelle Daggett and husband Travis of Broadway; a stepdaughter, Leigh Steinmeyer and husband Ernie of Apex; two sisters, Carol Benson and husband Duke of Selma and Betty Lou Cutts and husband Ronnie of Benson; a brother, Jimmy Brown of Buies Creek; and six grandchildren.

SANFORD — A graveside service for Jordan Rebecca Collins was held Sunday at Crossroads Community Church Cemetery in Carthage with the Rev. Roy McLamb officiating. A special song was performed by Dorothy McLamb at the service.

Pallbearers were Bob Ranford Collins II, Christopher Alan Cook, George Robert Hollar, Benny Matthews Jr., BJ Howard and Frank Baber Jr.

CECIL LYNN BARKER

SANFORD — Cecil Lynn Barker, 60, died Saturday (6/1/13) at home.

He was born Feb. 2, 1953, son of the late Geneva Maxine Drier and McKenzie Barker. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving honorably as an Electrical Craftsman from 1971-1975 aboard the USS Little Rock. He was last employed with Vanderbilt Homes as a foundation finisher.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway with the Rev. Garland Smith officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake at 12 p.m.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Patricia H. Barker; daughter, Jennifer Clifton of Sanford; sisters, Donna Cleveland of Wisconsin and Dawn Drier of Virginia; brothers, Kenny Barker of Florida, Richard Barker of North Dakota, Roderick Barker of Louisiana and Daniel Drier of Virginia; and one granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral service at Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.

CARTHAGE — Daniel Dowd, 78, died Sunday (6/2/13) at his home.

Graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Bethlehem Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Reggie Crews.

He was born in Moore County to the late Walter and Ida Hannon Dowd. He worked as a farmer for most of his life. He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Alice Hendricks, Katie Pearl Hardy and Roberta D. Hamer; and brothers, Walter Elbert Dowd, Jesse Neal Dowd, Curtis Bryant Dowd and Richard Earl Dowd.

He is survived by two sisters, Virginia Dowd of Carthage and Cary D. Crews of White Rock, S.C.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Kathleen “Kay” Midgett Miller was held Saturday at St. Luke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gene Cobb presiding. Two special hymns were played. Organist was Dianne W. Stanley.

Following the funeral, a graveside service was held at Buffalo Cemetery.

BENNETT — George M. Brady died Saturday (6/1/13) at his home.

Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at the Pine Mountain Friends Church in Bennett with the Rev. Joey Greene, the Rev. David Thomas and the Rev. Larry Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Born in Moore County, he was the son of the late Roland W. Brady. He was predeceased by his brother, Jerry W. Brady. He was a member of Pine Mountain Friends Church.

He is survived by his mother, Myrtis Brady of Carthage; sisters, Cindy Hancock (Mack) and Wanda Brady, all of Bear Creek, and Rolanda Phillips (Mike) of Carthage; brothers, Brad Brady and Donald Brady (Cheryl), all of Bennett; seven nieces and three nephews.

BROADWAY — Funeral service for Beulah Stewart Thomas McNeill, 90, who died Wednesday (5/29/13), was conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Holly Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. Burial followed at the Baptist Chapel Church Cemetery.

During the service, Louise Oyster was the pianist, David Oyster was the organist and the congregational singing was led by Cynthia Spivey, minister of music.

Poems written by her daughters, Karen Thomas and Jinger Gibson, were read by her granddaughters, Brandy Grindle and Morgan Thomas.

Pallbearers were Christopher D. Thomas, Adam J. Thomas, Jordan E. Thomas, Gerald Randy Thomas, Michael Scott Gibson and Jeffrey B. Gibson.
