SANFORD — Henry Latham Hodges Jr. (Rusty) died Wednesday (5/28/14).

He was born on December 21, 1941 in Washington, North Carolina. He graduated from Washington High School in 1959. He spent one year of prep school at Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee. After graduation from Castle Heights, Rusty was awarded a four-year football scholarship to the University of North Carolina. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and a loyal Tar Heel for the remainder of his life.

Following graduation from UNC, Rusty attended US Navy Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island and went on to serve in Vietnam from 1967-1968. He was awarded the Navy Commendation medal.

Upon returning from Vietnam, Rusty married Ann Fontaine Greene in August 1968 and they settled in Columbia, South Carolina where he was an instructor in the Naval ROTC program at the University of South Carolina.

In 1969, Rusty accepted a position with Coty, Inc., which brought him to Sanford, NC in 1976. Rusty continued with Coty, Inc. until his retirement in 1998. Rusty was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. He also was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Sanford where he served as local President as well as state Lt. Governor. He was very active in coaching youth sports, organizing Fourth of July events at Westlake Pool, and playing Santa Claus to countless children in the community.

Henry L. Hodges is survived by his wife Ann; his son Henry L. Hodges III (Hank) and wife Ashley of Charlotte and his daughter Katherine Hodges Harris (Katie) and husband Buck of Sanford. He also leaves four grandchildren, Jackson Blount Hodges, Wyatt Pressley Hodges, Katherine Eileen Hodges (Kylie), Katherine Harding Harris (Kack), and one sister, Katherine Hodges Hall of Washington, NC.

Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by his parents, Henry L. Hodges Sr. and Katherine Harding Hodges (Kack). The family is especially appreciative of the loving care Rusty received from Priscilla A. Goldston.

Committal of ashes will take place Tuesday, June 3rd at 9:30 a.m. at the Buffalo Presbyterian Church cemetery. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church or the Kiwanis Club of Sanford.

CARTHAGE — Mrs. Carol Joanne Bowling Chacon, age 54, of Carthage, N.C., died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, in Sanford, N.C.

She was born on October 4, 1959, to the late Russell Lawrence Bowling and Marjorie Currin Bowling. She was the manager of the Project Help Thrift Shop.

Mrs. Chacon is survived by her mother, Marjorie Currin Dickens of Sanford, N.C.; a brother, Mike Bowling of Sanford, N.C.; a sister, Patricia B. Rosser and husband John of Broadway, N.C.; a half-sister, Rushell Bennie of Greenville, S.C.; and two nephews, Joshua Scott Bowling and Brian Smith Rosser.

SANFORD — Mr. Robert Drumheller, 77, of Sanford, NC went to be with our Lord and Savior Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Peak Resources-Pine Lake, in Carthage, NC. He was born March 5, 1937 in Paterson, NJ.

Robert is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Arline, and his daughter, Deborah (James) King of Sanford. He has two grandchildren, Jennifer (Willie) Holmes of Fayetteville, NC and Kristopher King of Burlington, NC. He also has three sisters, a stepbrother, nieces, nephews, and a great-niece.

Robert was a member of Barbecue Presbyterian Church, Sanford, NC, having served on the Board of Deacons. He was also a member of the church choir. He was also a former member of the Benhaven Ruritan Club.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 1, 2014, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held Monday, June 2, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Barbecue Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

CAMERON — Edith Ruth Moretz Michael, 82, of Cameron, died Tuesday (5/27/14) at home.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cameron Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Crains Creek Cemetery.

She was born in Boone, on Jan. 27, 1932, to Dwight and Beulah Proffit Moretz. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight and Beulah Proffit Moretz; and three brothers, Dean, Alonzo and Glenn.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, David Michael; three daughters, Patty Williamson and Pam Cameron and husband Dennis, all of Cameron, and Kathy Comer and husband Frank of Sanford; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

A visitation will be held at Cox Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Jane Clark Coble died Thursday (5/22/14).

She was born Dec. 25, 1952 in Sanford, a daughter of the late Elliott H. and Edna H. Clark. She graduated from Elon College in 1971 with a BS in English. In 1978 she became a licensed real estate agent on the Grand Strand. In 1982 she joined Chicora Real Estate where she spent most of her career as the in-house agent at Covenant Towers.

She is survived by her husband, Drew Coble of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Sally Raskin and Penelope Kilpatrick; two brothers, Jonathan Clark (Linda) and Jeffrey Clark (Susan); a son, Bryant Coble (Sarah); a daughter, Kiersten Coble; six grandchildren; and 14 nieces and nephews.

The celebration of life service will be held today at 11 a.m. at McMillan-Small Funeral Home and the family will greet friends following the service.
