WILLIAM THOMPSON JR.

SANFORD — William "Wootsie" Thompson Jr., 74, of Sanford, died Wednesday (5/14/14) at Central Carolina Hospital.

He is survived by his sisters, Ethel Mae Bailey of New York and Betty Petty Wilson of Sanford; and one niece.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Works For Christ Christian Center.

Arrangements are by Knotts Funeral Home.

  MAGGIE WALL

SANFORD — Maggie Wall, 93, of 2640 Applegate Way, Sanford, died Wednesday (5/14/14) at Liberty Commons Nursing.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Murchison Chapel A.M.E. Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held today from 1 to 6 p.m. at Watson-Cunningham & Son’s Mortuary.

She is survived by sons, Hargie McLean (Jean) of Olivia and Van McLean (Terry) of Raleigh; sisters, Marzela Murchison of Fayetteville, and Virginia McGilberry (Calvin), Doris Sellars and Rachel Sellars, all of Olivia; brothers, John Henry and Willie McLean, both of Olivia, and Willie Jackson of Fairfield, Calif.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

  GLENNIE BATTEN ROGERS

SANFORD — Graveside funeral service for Glennie Batten Rogers, 82, of Sanford, who died Wednesday (5/7/14), was conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bible Baptist Church cemetery in Moncure with the Rev. Robbie Douglas and the Rev. John Taylor officiating.

Soloist was Kelli Douglas and taped music was played.

Pallbearers were Robert Chipman, Bill Colebrook, Wayne Ferring, Bruce Jackson, John Kelley and George Noel.

Arrangements were by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.

  ALLEN EDWARD WHITTED

LILLINGTON — Funeral service for Allen Edward Whitted, 58, of Lillington, who died Wednesday (5/7/14), was conducted at 12 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Father Robert Ippolito officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Army followed at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Stacey Whitted, a son, gave the eulogy, and taped music was played.

Arrangements were by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.

  THURMAN ABNER CURRIN SR.

LILLINGTON — Thurman “Tim” Abner Currin Sr., 79, of Lillington, died Thursday (5/15/14) at Wake Med Raleigh Hospital.

He was born in Granville County, but spent most of his life in Harnett County. He was the son of the late Clement David Sr. and Janie Hart Currin. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, C.D. Currin Jr., Chesley Gilbert Currin, and Bernard Marsh Currin; and one sister, Estelle Stone.

He was a member of Summerville Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He was a retired farmer and was a member of the Boone Trail Ruritan Club where he was awarded Ruritan of the Year. He previously served in other groups such as Western Harnett High School Boosters, advisory board for Boone Trail School, and a board member of the Boone Trail Emergency Services.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Summerville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tom Spence and the Rev. Terry Williams officiating. Burial will be at Westview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Summerville Presbyterian Church and other times at the home.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Mae Holder Currin; sons, Timmy Currin Jr. and wife Susan, Tony Currin and wife Darlene, Terry Currin and wife Laura; sister, Sarah Collins; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

  ALTON MCKOY BURGESS

BROADWAY — Alton McKoy “Mack” Burgess, 90, of Broadway, died Wednesday (5/14/14) at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was a lifelong resident of Harnett County, born to the late Alton Cleveland Burgess and Margie McKoy. He was a lifetime farmer.

He is survived by a son, Ricky Burgess and wife Margaret of Broadway; a sister, Dora Pryor; two grandsons and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Summerville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

  BENJAMIN HAYWOOD SMITH

CARTHAGE — Benjamin Haywood Smith, 82, of Carthage, died Monday (5/12/14) at his residence.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Carthage. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

There will be a viewing on Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

He is survived by one daughter, Von Morrison; two sons, Raymond Smith and Charles Smith; one sister, Annie; five brothers, Lowell, Walter, Everett, Harvey and Theodore; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Paige D. Davis was held Thursday at Buffalo Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Paul Shields officiating. Burial followed at the Buffalo Cemetery.
