GOLDSTON — Frances Murchison Harris, 94, of S. Main Street, Goldston, died Saturday, May 17, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Harris was born in Pittsboro on April 20, 1920, the daughter of James and Iola (Jenks) Brown. Frances was a member of Goldston United Methodist Church and was retired from the Chatham County schools as a cafeteria employee. She loved doing Find the Word, enjoyed her family and home and was a loving Mother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, William Harold Murchison, Edward M. Harris, Jr.; and a grandson, William Kevin Johnson.

She is survived by one daughter: Ann Gail M. Johnson of Durham, NC; one son: Bill Murchison and wife, Lydia of Goldston, NC; grandchildren, Larry Johnson, Bryan Johnson, Kim Gierok, Chris Manring and Stephanie Mashburn; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; stepchildren Eddie Harris of Raleigh, Gene Harris and Camille H. Cunnup, both of Goldston, NC; and three step grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 19, 2014 from 11 a.m. til 12 p.m. at Goldston United Methodist Church, 185 Hillcrest Ave., Goldston. A graveside service will follow in the Goldston Cemetery with Rev. Thomas Simpson officiating.

CAMERON — Alta Everidge Combs, 92, of Cameron, died Sunday (5/18/14).

She was born in Knott County, Ky., on Oct. 6, 1921, to the late Soloman Everidge and Pearl Perkins Everidge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Combs, and sons, Larry Paul Combs and Charles Curtis Combs. She was the retired Director of the Senior Citizens Center in Harnett County.

She is survived by three daughters, Teresa Flo Wood and husband Jim, and Fran Blakeley and husband Tony, all of Sanford, and Ann Revels and husband Mark of Holden Beach; three sons, Billy Everidge and wife Judy of Olivia, Jack Combs of Cameron and Michael Combs of Fayetteville; brother, Alfred Everidge of Fisty, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Countryside Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dave Kinney officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

SANFORD — Dorothy Mae Randall Gardner, 88, of Sanford, died Saturday (5/17/14).

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

She is survived by a son, Tom Gardner (Karen) of Florida; daughters, Nancy Dols (Tom) of Minnesota and Linda Rapp of Sanford; sister, Velva Moyers of Florida; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — Berta Crawford Dowdy, 99, of Sanford, died Saturday (5/17/14) at Parkview.

She was born in Columbus County on June 12, 1914, to the late James and Hattie Crawford. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ernest Wilfred Dowdy. She was an accomplished seamstress.

She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Thomas and husband Graydon of Sanford; a son, James Buck Dowdy and wife Ruth of Raleigh; daughters, Betty Barnes and husband Kenneth of Wilmington and Sandra Dugan and husband Bill of Sanford; and an “adopted” son, Lennie Gardner and wife Jessie of Garner; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Boles Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeffrey Lindsay of Hickory officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home one hour prior to the funeral and other times at 3305 Wycliff Ct. Burial will follow at Shallow Well Christian Church Cemetery.

SANFORD — Victor Orlando Richmond, 49, of 2756 Mallard Cove, Sanford, died Friday (5/16/14) at his residence.

He was born Feb. 12, 1965, to Mary Quick and the late Sylvester Baldwin.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Quick of Sanford; three brothers, Ronald Richmond (Sarah Richmond), Cedric Quick (Tonika Hester-Quick), and Darian Quick (Alisa Tate-Quick); two sisters, Sharna Quick and Serenna McCormick; seven nieces, one nephew, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tempting Congregational Church. Burial will follow at Alston Chapel United Church of Christ.

BROADWAY — Funeral service for Alton “Mack” McKoy Burgess, 90, who died Wednesday (5/14/14), was held at 3 p.m. Saturday at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Williams officiating. Burial was at Summerville Presbyterian Church cemetery.
