TERRY JONES POYTHRESS

CHAPEL HILL — Terry Jones Poythress, age 56, of Chapel Hill, N.C. died Sunday, May 18, 2014 after a year-long battle with cancer.

She was born January 27, 1958 in Sanford, N.C. She worked at UNC for 25 years.

Terry was a choir director at Damascus Church for several years and had fulfilled many roles there. She was also very active in her community. Her hobbies included reading and her love for cats.

Terry is survived by her husband, Phil Poythress; her parents, Bruce and Myrtle Jones of Moncure, N.C.; her daughter, Jessica Renee Poythress of the home; her brothers, Ray and his wife Wenona Jones of Marston, N.C. and Phillip Jones of Moncure; and her sister-in-law, Anne, with her husband Charles Barry Burns of Chapel Hill.

A visitation was held Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Hall Wynne Funeral Services in Pittsboro, N.C.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at Damascus Congregational Church in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Memorial contributions may be made to UNC Lineburger Cancer Research Center or a charity of your choice.

BETTY PERRY FAULK

MOORESVILLE — Mrs. Betty Perry Faulk, of Mooresville, peacefully passed away in her home on May 20, 2014 surrounded by her family.

She was a vivacious and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all that knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Garland and Robena Perry; her husband, Homer Gray Faulk; and her son and his wife, Joe and Debbie Faulk.

She will be remembered by her son, Bobby Faulk and his wife Janet of Mooresville; her grandchildren and their spouses, Dave and Hillary Vaughan, Allen and Stacey Denning and Gray and Heather Faulk, all of Wilmington; and her brother, Roy Perry and his wife Peggy of Sanford, N.C.

The family has requested a private service.

ROBERT E. PARRIES

BUIES CREEK — Robert E. “Bob” Parries, 67, of Buies Creek, died Saturday (5/17/14) at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

He was born on June 4, 1946 in Mt. Airy, son of Nettie Opal Adams Parries and the late Bob Glenn “Tommie” Parries. He graduated from N.C. State University, receiving his Doctorate of Education in August 1981. He worked at N.C. State for the majority of his career. He also served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Pleasant Memory Baptist Church, the N.C. State Alumni Association, and the N.C. State University Foundation.

A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Memory Baptist Church in Coats. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carol F. Parries; mother, Nettie Parries of Mt. Airy; sister, Sylvia Inman and husband Bud of Pilot Mountain; two brothers, Dale Parries and his wife Margaret of Pilot Mountain and David Parries of Providence, R.I.; and five nieces.

DONNELL JEANETTE HILL SENNE

LILLINGTON — Donnell Jeanette Hill Senne, 91, of Lillington and Mooresville, died Sunday (5/18/14) at Huntersville N.C. Hospice.

She was born in East Flat Rock in Henderson County, the daughter of the late Theodore Roosevelt Hill and Ruby Genevieve Allison Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter William Senne (Bill); her brother, Theodore Roosevelt Hill Jr. (Ted); brother-in-law, Walter Dugan Cooper; and sister-in-law, Mimi Hill.

She is survived by her siblings, Florinda Ruby Hill Cooper of Virginia, and Ann Hill Jones and Sam Jones of Asheville; sons, Rudy Senne of the Philippines, Walter William Senne II and Sheila Walters Senne of Lillington and Wilmington; daughter, Donna Maria Welch and William Phillip Welch of Huntersville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. William Pauley officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home & Crematory.

SANFORD — Funeral service for John D. Dixon Jr., 74, who died Thursday (5/15/14), was held at 3 p.m. Monday at St. Luke United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jaye White. Burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery with Dr. Gene Cobb officiating.

During the service, soloist was David Mellnik and the congregation sang. Organist was Dianne W. Stanley.

Pallbearers were Everett Bradley, Harry Hattman, Bob Hughes, Bill Jones, Tom Joyner, Randy Mahaney, Frank McCorquodale, Terry McNeil, Bill Towson and Muncey Wheby.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Friends in Christ Sunday School Class, Joe Flake, Jamie McCormick and George Palmer.

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Rebecca Ann Waddell, 69, of Travelers Rest, S.C., died Sunday (5/18/14) at her home.

Born in Robbins, she was a daughter of the late Marvin and Millie Kennedy Brown. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Lee Deaton and Ronnie Fulton Deaton; one daughter, Peggy Sue Woolling; and one brother, Cecil Clyde Brown.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip Waddell; one son, Terry Deaton (Mary Ann); one stepson, Larry Renner; two daughters, Brenda Buckner (Lee) and Kathy Foote (John); two stepdaughters, Sandy Hayes and Janet Newell; one brother, James Brown; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at The Howze Mortuary.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Brown's Chapel Christian Church in Robbins. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at Brown's Chapel Christian Church prior to the service.

ROBBINS — Carol Lee Baber Williams, 78, died Monday (5/19/14) at FirstHealth Hospice.

She attended Rock Hill Friends Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Bertha Seawell Baber; sister, Lucille Emmons; and brothers, Lester, Raymond and Carlis Baber.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Worthy Williams; four sons and three daughters: Edwin (Ruth), Linda “Susie” Kearns (Charles), Lynn (Linda), Vicky (Barney) and Tommy (Lisa) of Robbins, Garry (Pat) of Spartanburg, S.C., and Darlene Samples (Mark) of Carthage; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters, Mary Edith Kidd, Mae Calloway, Wilma Diedrich, Irma Dell Tessitor; and many nieces and nephews.
