SANFORD — Eugene Stone, 75, of Sanford, died Saturday (5/24/14) at his home.
Born July 19, 1938, in Lee County, Eugene was raised by his grandparents, John Martin and Mattie O’Quinn Stone.
In addition to his grandparents, he was predeceased by one grandson, Nicholas Stone.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie Hales Stone; five children, Rick Gene Stone and his wife Sarah of Lee County, David Dewayne Stone of Raleigh, Akron Christina Ellerman and her husband Alan of Sanford, Wanda Marie Futral and her husband Brad of Lee County, Michael Craig Stone and his wife Jennifer of Sanford; nine grandchildren, Rick Stone, Jr., Shannon Stone, Lisa Knight, Karen Stone, Travis Gillum, Erica Buchanan, Jonathon Ross, Gabrielle Stone and Connor Stone; one brother, Andrew “Bunny” Stone and his wife Catherine of Lee County; also survived by six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Miller Boles Funeral Home in Sanford. A graveside service will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Buffalo Cemetery.

SANFORD — Jo Ann Thomas, 72, of Sanford died Thursday (5/22/14) at her residence.
She was born on April 27, 1942, in Lee County to the late Joseph Warren and Hazel Oliver.
She is survived by a church family, work family and friends. She was a retired hairdresser of 42 years, as well as a member of Lemon Springs United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (5/30/14) at Lemon Springs United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

BROADWAY — Mary J. Prince, 75, of 956 Rosser Pittman Rd., Broadway, died Wednesday (5/21/14) at her home.
She is survived by a son, Anthony Cleveland Prince (Roslind) of Broadway; two daughters, Sonya Renee Prince of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; and Lisa Prince Chance, of Broadway; a brother, Merman Douglas of Broadway; two sisters, Qunita Donaldson of Broadway and Annie Maggie of New York, New York; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Monday (5/26/14) at Watson Memorial-Cunningham and Sons Mortuary. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday (5/27/14) at Cameron Grove AME Zion Church, 309 Vernon St., Broadway. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

SHERMON L. "GEORGE" LINDSEY
SANFORD — Shermon Lee "George" Lindsey, 61, of 212 Poplar St., Sanford, died Thursday (5/22/14) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday (5/27/14) at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church on Colon Road by Rev. George Dark. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife: Shirley P. Lindsey of the home; six daughters, Sheila Graham (Bernard) of Rockingham, Sharon Petty and Theodora P. Sanders (Michael) of Sanford, and Tamika Tuss, Shanikia Tuss and Jeanette Masterson all of Columbus, Ohio; five sons, Shermon Lindsey of Columbus, Ohio, Jeffrey Petty (Keisha), Marcus Murchison, Sr. and Marcus Murchison, Jr. all of Sanford, and Lee Lindsey of Columbus, Ohio; Seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home on Poplar Street. Viewing will be on Monday (5/26/14) from 3-6 p.m., and one hour prior to service Tuesday. No wake.

JOE N. ROBINSON
CLINTON — Joe N. Robinson, 74, of 300 Blount Street, died Friday (5/23/14) at his home.
A celebration of life will be held 3 p.m. Sunday (5/25/14) at First United Methodist Church of Clinton, with Rev. Robert Redmond officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the sanctuary and at other times at the home. The burial will be private at the family’s request.
He was a native of Sampson County and was born to the late Delores Hobbs and Joe Luke Robinson. He was a retired business owner, a member of First United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ann Lee Robinson; one daughter, Marina Robinson Sessoms and husband Mat of Roseboro; one sister, Paulette Robinson King; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Lynwood E. Robinson, and sister, Edna Robinson Fryer.

SPRING LAKE — Irene Mathis Bell, 74, of 301 Duncan Rd., Spring Lake, formerly of the Johnsonville community, died Thursday (5/22/14) at Cape Fear Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Rev. Bell was the daughter of the late William Henry and Lenora Mathis. One son preceded her in death, Nathan DeVaughn Bell Jr.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday (5/31/14) at Johnsonville AME Zion Church in Pineview, with Rev. Thurman McGougan presiding. Viewing will be one hour prior to service.
She is survived by three daughters, Michealle Ingram of Spring Lake, Debbie Morales of Raleigh and Jackie Archie of Indiana; three brothers, Robert Mathis of Faison, David Mathis of Tampa, Fla. and Moses Mathis of Fayetteville; four sisters, Catherine Jackson of Mt. Olive, Lena Mathis of Faison, Alice Hicks of Greensboro, and Linda Williams of Warsaw; two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

CARTHAGE — Lucille Lee, 91, of Carthage, died Friday (5/23/14) at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday (5/28/14) at Mt. Olive AME Zion Church in Carthage. A visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Pugh & Smith Funeral Home of Carthage.
She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Brown; two sons, George Lee and Richard Lee; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
