GENEVA HARRINGTON CAMERON

BROADWAY — Geneva Harrington Cameron, age 99, of Broadway, died Wednesday (7/31/13).

She was born on December 20, 1913, the eldest child of John Lacy Harrington and Betty Sloan Harrington. She grew up on the family farm, was a graduate of Boone Trail High School and then attended Elon College. She taught at Boone Trail School from 1932 until 1940 and then took time off to rear her children. In 1952, she resumed teaching at Broadway School and for over thirty years taught every grade from 3rd-8th. Her teaching spanned over fifty years and she guided thousands of Central Carolina students from several generations. She is remembered by her students as a firm teacher with high expectations who cherished and respected all her students. In 1938, she married J.B. Cameron and in 1942 moved into a new house in Broadway where she lived until she was 94. She was a member of the Broadway Presbyterian Church and for many years served as President of the Women of the Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Burton Cameron Sr. and a grandson, Josiah Cameron.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Broadway Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Rodda, the Rev. Dr. Harold Stone and the Rev. Doug Houston officiating. Burial will follow in the Broadway Town Cemetery.

Surviving are her sons, John Burton Cameron and wife Abby VanVorhees of Philadelphia, Pa. and Dr. Harold H. “Hal” Cameron and wife Carole of New Bern, N.C.; sisters, Ginger Harrington of Sanford, N.C., Nell H. Pate and husband Bruce of Spring Lake, N.C. and Polly H. Chandler of Broadway, N.C.; grandchildren, Mirielle “Mimi” Cameron of Colorado, John Burton Cameron III of Broadway, Asa Cameron of Itaca, N.Y., David Cameron and Matthew Cameron, both of Charlotte, N.C.; three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-8 p.m. Sunday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials are made to the Broadway Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 365, Broadway, N.C. 27505.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Wendy Lea McNeill was held Friday at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Broadway with the Rev. Jerry W. Parsons officiating.

Two special songs were performed by Lynne Green and Louise Oyster was the pianist.

Following the funeral, a graveside service was held at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Davis, Wayne Farrar, Ralph Holt, Lemar McNeill, Alford Patterson and Justin Rorie.

ROY EUGENE CALCUTT

SANFORD — Roy Eugene Calcutt, 65, died Wednesday (7/31/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was born on July 3, 1948, in Lee County, to the late Tom Watson Calcutt and Leola Parrish Calcutt. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Vickie Spivey Calcutt; a sister, Nellie Calcutt; and by a brother, Wayne Calcutt. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had retired as a correction officer from the N.C. Department of Correction.

He is survived by two sons, Matthew Aaron Calcutt and wife Tracy of New Bern, and Kevin Roy Calcutt of Sanford; a daughter, Heather Calcutt Furr and husband Andy of Boone; a brother, Louis Calcutt of Sanford; three grandsons and one granddaughter.

BEVERLY LENDELL MCLEAN

SANFORD — Beverly Lendell McLean, 60, of 2509 Minter School Road, died Tuesday (7/30/13) at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her fathers, Jesse Jefferson McLean and Murray Junior Lyles, and brothers, Randolph McLean and John Henry Lyles.

Funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Cameron Grove A.M.E. Zion Church in Broadway. Viewing one hour prior to service.

She is survived by husband, Waymon Cubby McLean; four children, Waymon Cubby McLean Jr. (CJ) of the home, Elder W. Lester “Mac” McKoy of Atlanta, Ga., Chavala “Cecie” McKoy Snipes (Steve) of Sanford and Gina Lashay Pope of Winston-Salem; 10 grandchildren; mother, Effie Ruth McDougald Lyles of Richmond, Calif.; sisters, Jesse Louise McEachin, Ellen Ruth Johnson (Jeffrey), Wanda Beasley (Tim), Paula Denise McLean, Erma Williams (Melvin), Stacy Lyles, Shirley Partidge and Camilla Lyles; brothers, David Jefferson McLean (Joyce), Jeffrey Curtis McLean (Kalisha), Mark Patrick Lyles, Stanley Leonard McLean, Damien Mason, Miles Cox (Robyn) and Michael Lyles; and a host of other relatives and friends.
