MARY G. SKULA

SOUTHERN PINES — Mary G. Skula, age 92, of Southern Pines, died on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at St. Joseph of the Pines Health Care Center.

She was born on February 2, 1921 in Elizabeth, N.J. to the late Charles Robert McCracken and Mary Ellen Foley McCracken. Mary was a resident of St. Joseph of the Pines. She loved and cherished her family and was raised during an era where her family was top priority.

She is survived by her children: Art Paul Skula and his wife Nadine of Daytona Beach, Florida; Paul Peter Skula Jr. and his wife Sheila of Sanford, NC; Charles Robert Skula of Frisco, TX; and Patty Skula Laughlin and husband Chris Laughlin Sr. of Foxfire Village, NC. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph of the Pines Health Care Center Chapel with Deacon Bill Cortright and Chaplain Lorena Arnold officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Linden Lodge Foundation, 2251 Linden Rd., Aberdeen, NC 28315.

VALLIE MAE BURNS JENKINS

SANFORD — Vallie Mae Burns Jenkins, 79, died Friday (8/2/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rogers Memorial Chapel.

She was born in Sanford, a daughter of the late Walter Burns and Clerenda Johnson Burns. She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Jenkins Sr.; a sister, Sarah Masterson; and brothers, Ruben Burns, Floyd Burns and June Burns.

She is survived by two daughters, Frances Dickerson of Sanford, and Nancy Manzanares and husband Mainor of Dunn; one son, William Jenkins of Sanford; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sally Kirkorian of Florida.

Memorial contributions can be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday before the memorial service.

JOHN MARVIN GILMORE JR.

SANFORD — John Marvin Gilmore Jr., 70, died Thursday (8/8/13) at Sanford Health & Rehab.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rogers Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Olivia Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

He was born in Lee County, a son of the late John Marvin Gilmore Sr. and Clouis Cole. He was preceded in death by a sister, Johnnie Carol Gilmore, and brothers, Billy, Roy Wayne and Frankie Gilmore.

He is survived by siblings, Marvelene Corcoran and Shirley Thompson, both of Tennessee, Vernon Gilmore and wife Bessie, Brenda Denkins and husband Bennie, and Roger Gilmore and wife Darlene, all of Sanford, Barbara Graham and husband Al of Olivia, Faye Hollady and husband Alton of Ramseur, Donnie Gilmore and wife Cheryl of Asheboro, and Debbie O’Quinn and husband David of Broadway.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday before the memorial service.

BILLIE SMITH JESSUP

VASS — Billie Smith Jessup, 85, died Thursday (8/8/13) at his home.

A celebration of his life will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Vass Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Windish officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall.

He was born in Bartley, W.Va., on Jan. 5, 1928, to Levi Suttle and Bessie Smith Jessup. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a W.W. II veteran. He served his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Vass Fire Department for over 35 years and was a member of Vass Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, elder and member of the choir. He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi Suttle and Bessie Smith Jessup; two sons, Billie Smith Jessup Jr. and Jerry Ray Jessup; one sister, Polly Mock Parham; and one brother, Buster Doc Jessup.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Hennings Jessup; four children, Joyce M. Jessup of the home, James L. Jessup and wife Pam of Sanford, and Terry W. Jessup and Dennis R. Jessup of Vass; one sister, Carol J. Hall of Vass; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

RONALD HOWARD MORRISON

LILLINGTON — Ronald Howard Morrison, 76, died Wednesday (8/7/13) at his home.

He was born in Lee County, the son of the late John Howard Morrison and Mamie Lee Rogers. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Orene Perez, and ex-wife, Lois Morrison Douglas. He graduated from Lillington High School and Fayetteville Technical Community College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1955-1959. In the 1970s, he played in the band “Wild Thing."

He is survived by his daughter, Yvonne Morrison Jones and husband Donnie of Manvel, Texas; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; sister, Betty Ann Johnson of Lillington; brother-in-law, Joe Perez of Lillington; and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home in Lillington.

JAMES (JACK) JONES

CARTHAGE — James (Jack) Jones, 46, died Sunday (8/4/13) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Matthews FWB Church in Eastwood. Burial will follow at St. Peters Church Cemetery in Eastwood.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Jones; mother, Clara Cobb; two daughters, Shaquana Jones and Geneva Jones; and three sons, Joshua Jones, James Jones Jr. and Ty Ramey.

JEANETTE W. ALLEN

SANFORD — Funeral service for Jeanette W. Allen was held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Burns Jr. officiating.

Special songs were song by the Asbury Choir and the Gunter Quartet.

Following the funeral, a graveside service was held at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Clint Williams, Bryan Allen, Christopher Thomas, Chris Frahm, Bobby Holland and Mike Farrell.

Arrangements were by Miller-Boles Funeral Home.

CHONG CHA MORRIS

SANFORD — Funeral service for Chong Cha Morris, 72, who died Sunday (8/4/13), was held Friday at 10 a.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cary with Pastor Mark Drengler officiating. Burial followed at Broadway Town Cemetery in Broadway.

Pianist was Jacob Drengler. The congregation sang.

Pallbearers were Evan Kannarr, Nicholas Kannarr, Wiley Kannarr, Jay Morris, Brandon Sedivy and Scott Sedivy.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

REV. WILLIAM FREDERICK HEPPDING

SANFORD — Funeral service for the Rev. William Frederick “Fred” Heppding, 71, who died Monday (8/5/13), was held Friday at 2 p.m. at Faith Bible Church, formerly Northview Baptist Church, with Pastor Christian A. Heppding officiating. Eulogy was by son, Philip Heppding. Burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery with military rites.

Pianist was Gail Meeks. Soloist was Patricia Coble.

Pallbearers were Stephen Coble, Jason Womble, Hal Meeks, Francis Wilmoth, Lewis Young and Eric Galloway.
