FUQUAY-VARINA — Dottie C. Knott died Sunday (8/11/13) at her home.
She was born in Johnston County to Ruby and the late Walter Currin. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Currin.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Douglas E. Knott; two sons, Richie Knott and wife Christal of Fuquay-Varina and Chris Knott and wife Amy of Cary; three grandchildren; mother, Ruby Gibson of Fuquay-Varina; two sisters, Kay Powell and husband Jim, and Bonnie Wade and husband Dick, all of Fuquay-Varina; two brothers, Ronnie Currin and wife Gail, and Tim Currin and wife Jenny, all of Fuquay-Varina; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Rawls Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence Hardison Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7p.m. at the church prior to the service. A private burial will be held at a later date.

SANFORD — Memorial service for John Marvin Gilmore Jr., 70, who died Thursday (8/8/13), was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rogers Memorial Chapel with Pastor Joel Cameron officiating. Burial followed at Olivia Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. George Walton officiating.
During the service, soloist was Donna Faye Beal, the duet of guitarist David Gilmore and Donna Faye Beal sang, and recorded music was played. Organist was Tim Copas.

SILER CITY — Mary Elizabeth Thompson Elkins, 69, of College Street, died Monday (8/12/13) at her residence.
She was born in Chatham County on Aug. 19, 1943, the daughter of Lewis and Hattie (Lewis) Thompson. She was a graduate of Silk Hope School and Central Carolina Community College. She had worked in the accounting office at Boling Chair Inc. and later established her own company, Professional Business Solutions. She was a member of Rocky River Friends Meeting where she served as recording clerk, assistant treasurer and Sunday School teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, William Lee Elkins; one brother, Harvey Lewis Thompson of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rocky River Friends Meeting with David Hobson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

WEST END — James Robert Lucas, 28, died Sunday (8/11/13).
Funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Carthage with the Rev. Rick Martindale officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
A native of Moore County, he was the son of Jimmie Ray Lucas and the late Carolyn Ann Dowd Lucas. He graduated from Appalachian State and was a history and war enthusiast.
In addition to his father, he is survived by stepmother, Carol Lucas; sisters, Anne Lucas, Meredith Marshburn and husband Andy, and Sarah Fann and husband Mike, all of West End, Nancy McLendon of Apex and Caroline Lucas of Cary; three nieces and one nephew.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home.
