BARBARA DARE MOORE LINNEY

SANFORD — Barbara Dare Moore Linney, age 84, of Sanford, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 after a brief illness.

Barbara was born on March 8, 1929 in Chapel Hill, NC to the late Ralph McNair Moore and Iona Celeste Johnson Moore. She was a loving mother. Barbara was a retired business owner having owned Pour People Ceramics and was an avid artistic quilter. She was a member of Grace Chapel Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David P. Linney Jr., and a son, David P. Linney III and her brothers, Ralph and Teddy Moore.

She is survived by a daughter, Jeannie Cooper and husband Bobby Sr. of Bastrop, LA; a daughter, Bobbi Linney of Sanford, NC; a daughter, Dianne Braren and husband Buddy of Monticello, FL; a daughter, Jo Ann Ezell and husband Jason of Buies Creek, NC; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Linney of Sanford; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; two brothers: Larry Moore and wife Phyllis of Shelby, NC; and Jack Moore and wife Eunice of Wake Forest, NC; two sisters: Betty Spence and Linda Shaffer, both of Sanford.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Barbara Linney's name to Grace Chapel Church, PO Box 1408, Sanford, NC 27331.

WILLIAM LESTER SWANN

SANFORD — William Lester Swann, 101, of 541 Doll House Road, Sanford, died Monday (2/3/14) at his residence.

He was the son of the late Willie and Pearl McLean Swann. He was also preceded  in death by his son, Gene Harold Swann.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Love Grove AME Zion Church. Wake will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Lula Esther Swann; one daughter, Barbara McLeod of Vass; three sisters, Tommie S. Lucas and Mary G. Swann, both of Sanford, and Jeanette S. Hinton of Fayetteville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends.

MARGARET CHEEK

SILER CITY — Margaret Cheek died Saturday (2/1/14) at Duke Medical Center in Durham.

She is survived by her daughter, Manidra Cheek of Carrboro; parents, Homer and Rosa Mae Marsh of Siler City; four brothers, Roosevelt Glover (Mary) of Greensboro, Ronnie Glover (Kay) and Ray Burnett (Phyllis), both of Rochester, N.Y., and Homer Donnell Marsh of Siler City; four sisters, Betty Cheek Spinks (James) of Asheboro, Beverly Jo Farries (Ike), Patsy F. Marsh and Sherry Marsh, all of Siler City; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A viewing will take place Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Knotts & Son Funeral Home in Siler City.

A viewing will be held Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Knotts Funeral Home in Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. A viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour at the church.

JERRY STEVEN HARRINGTON

BROADWAY — Funeral service for Jerry "Jo Jo" Steven Harrington, 65, of Broadway, who died Monday (2/3/14), was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Doug Houston. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Duet was Charlene and Justin Harrington, soloist was Justin Harrington and pianist was Johnny Holder.

Honorary pallbearers were close friends, hunters and golfers.

Pallbearers were Jerry Ellis, Kevin Holder, Paul Johnson, Timmy Moore, Johnny Bryce Putnam and John Paul Thomas.
