SANFORD — Mr. Joseph Harold Kelly, age 79, of Sanford, N.C., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 11, 2013.

He was born in Lee County on April 29, 1934, to the late Joseph Ira Kelly and Blanche Gunter Kelly. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Wayne Kelly. Harold graduated from Deep River High School in 1952 and was a graduate of Campbell College. He also served our country in the United States Army. He owned and operated Harold Kelly Insurance Agency in Sanford for many years and was a member of Turner's Chapel Church.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Lib” Carpenter Kelly; son, Mark Kelly; brothers, Donald Kelly and wife Frances and Nelson Kelly; sister, Brenda Tucker and husband Kim; and two granddaughters, Madison Gunter and Emily Ann Kelly all of Sanford.

The family will receive friends Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home and the funeral will be Sunday, December 15th at 2:00 PM at Turner's Chapel Church with Pastor Bruce MacInnes and Pastor Reid Dickens officiating. Entombment will follow in the Lee Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

BROADWAY — Frances Yarborough Venable, age 73, of Broadway, N.C. died on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

Frances was born on February 17, 1940 in Harnett County, N.C. to the late Malcom James Yarborough and Anna Mae O'Quinn Yarborough. She was a member of Hillmon Grove Baptist Church in Cameron. Frances enjoyed working puzzle books, reading and watching television. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Berryman and husband Danny Ray of Broadway, N.C.; a son, Tony Venable and wife Sheila of Cameron, N.C.; a sister, Carolyn Dull and husband Junior of Cameron, N.C.; two brothers: John Yarborough of Sanford and Steve Yarborough and wife Cathie of Sanford, N.C. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Danielle Riddle, Shannon Buchanan, Carr Yarborough, Holly Venable, and Cory Venable and five great-grandchildren: Madison Whitaker, MacKenzie Riddle, Britton Buchanan, Dawson Buchanan, and Payton Yarborough and a great-great-granddaughter, Reighlynn Whitaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Venable as well as her siblings, Edgeton Yarborough, Neal Yarborough, Malcom Yarborough, Archie Yarborough, Willa Holder, Ruth Cox, Maggie Belle Coats, Hassie Yarborough, and Hester McKay.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillmon Grove Baptist Church in Cameron with Rev. Wayne O'Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church and other times at the home of Danny Ray & Kay Berryman.

ROANOKE, VA — Irma Leonard Gilliam, 78, of Roanoke, VA, formerly of Sanford, N.C., passed away Tuesday December 10, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery.

Mrs. Gilliam was born in Franklin County, N.C., a daughter of the late John Leonard and Myrtice Gupton Leonard. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Sanford and was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel L. Gilliam, and two sisters, Virginia Lopes and Janice Jones.

Mrs. Gilliam is survived by two daughters, Rebecca G. Stone and husband John of Jackson Springs, N.C. and Martha G. Mulford and husband David of Roanoke, VA; one sister, Betty Jean Marshbourne of Louisburg; five grandchildren, Jonathan Stone, Kathleen Stone, Patrick Stone, Hannah Mulford and Alex Mulford.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. Monday in the Parlor at First Baptist Church prior to the funeral service.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara Morrison of Sanford; father, Ollie Collins of Sanford; sister, Jessica Morrison of Sanford; three children, Mrycal Morrison and Isahiah Morrison, both of Sanford, and Skyler Jett of Carthage; two aunts; two uncles, and a host of relatives and friends.

SPRING LAKE — Tommy Davis, 73, of Parkton, died Saturday (11/30/13) at home.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mars Hill Presbyterian Church in Hope Mills.

He is survived by four sisters, Fonzella Currie, Hazel Blue, Barbara Ann McLean and Rachel Martinez; four brothers, Archie Davis, John Wayne Davis, Clifton Davis and Dwight Davis; and one stepson, Andre Allen.

FAYETTEVILLE — Isaiah Collins, 20, of 7205 Avila Drive, died Tuesday (12/3/13).

He is survived by his father, Frederick Collins; mother, Lori Collins; sister, Latasha Brown; brother, Lorenzo Collins; grandmothers, Harnet Estrella and Theresa Gregory; and grandfathers, Leland Estrella Sr. and James Light.

Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Cunningham & Sons Chapel in Fayetteville. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date.

SANFORD — Funeral services for William Ralph “Farmer Bill” Cole, 87, who died Saturday (12/7/13), was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pocket Presbyterian Church by the Rev. David Dudley. Burial followed at the church cemetery with military honors.

During the service the congregation sang, soloist was Marsha Havens, and the organist was Tina Rickard.

Pallbearers were John M. Johnson, Fulton E. Johnson, Jim Thomas, Pat McMillan and Bryant Childress.

He was preceded in death by his father, Burbie Clemons, and brother, Mandy Clemons.
