THOMAS MURRAY WALDO
SANFORD — Thomas Murray Waldo, 76, of Sanford, died Saturday (12/14/2013) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Turner's Chapel. Burial will follow at the family cemetery in Cumnock.
Mr. Waldo was born in Orlando, Fla., son of the late Harry Waldo and Mildred Lewis Waldo. Tom was a Veteran of the US Navy, a member of Turner's Chapel and a Master of the Bonsai. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Murray Waldo.
Mr. Waldo is survived by his wife Sylvia G. Waldo; a daughter, Bunni W. Hall and husband Johnny of Sanford; their children, Jason Hall, Joey Hall, his daughter, Natalee Hall and Megan Bean and her husband David Bean, their son Jimmy Dale Bean.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

SANFORD —Thomas Seaquille Rader, 20, of the 100 block of South Plank Road, Sanford, died Wednesday (12/11/13) at UNC Hospital.
Known to all as “Shaq,” of Sanford, he was born on Oct. 20, 1993. He attended Southern Lee High School and received his diploma from Central Carolina Community College. He joined Macedonia AME Zion Church at an early age.
He is survived by his parents, Traci and Charles McIver; father, Mack Jackson; grandparents, James and Louise Rader, Joyce Johnson, Darryl and Judith Davis of Sanford; brothers, Michael Rader, Trevor Rader, Charles McIver, Jr., Tyler Burch, Donte Grier, Dominic Szewczyk and Maurice Williams; sisters, Courtney McIver, Keonna Williams and Jasmine Jackson; and a host of uncle, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be noon Tuesday at Christian Provisions Ministry, Courtland Drive, Sanford. Funeral arrangements are by Knotts Funeral Home, 719 Wall St., Sanford.
SANFORD — Travis Richardson, 30, of Sanford, died Monday (12/9/2013).
He is survived by his two daughters, Chiniya Hawes, and Zakarriah Richardson, both of Sanford; his father, Steffon Cameron of Maysville, Ky.; one sister, Tiffany Monique Richardson of Sanford; one brother, Joshua Richardson of Sumterville, Fla.; and a host of friends, and relatives

BEAR CREEK — Douglas Wayne Powers, 46, of the 1000 block of Devil’s Tramping Ground Road, Bear Creek, died Friday (12/13/13) at his home.
Gravesides service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Goldston with Pastor JD Mullins officiating.
He was a native of Lee County, and was the son of Alton “Buck” Powers Jr. and the late Mary Ometta Welch Powers. He had formerly worked for eight years at Hart Furniture in Siler City.
He is survived by her daughter, Jeanna Sanders of Candor; sister, Karon P. Little and husband Dwight of Bennett; brother, Danny A. Powers and wife Veronica of Bear Creek; father, Alton “Buck” Powers Jr. of the home; and three grandchildren.

ROBBINS — Redell Madison Sheffield, 67, of the 500 block of Lake Street, Robbins, died Wednesday (12/11/13) at FirstHealth Moore Regional in Pinehurst.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett with Rev. Jacyln Jones and Rev. Kenneth McNeill officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Friends Church cemetery in Eagle Springs.
He was a native of Moore County, and was the son of the late Elder Ree Sheffield and Dora Morgan Sheffield. He had retired from Millikan Mills in Robbins.
He is survived by his daughters, Tammy S. Johnson and husband Marvin of Eagle Springs and Rose E. Sheffield of the home; sons, David Sheffield and wife Mary Helen of Robbins and Jimmy Sheffield of Eagle Springs; sisters, Irene S. Davis and husband Ed of Star, Doris York of Coleridge, Joyce S. Hurley and husband Worth of Seagrove, and Iris S. Lambert of Robbins; brother, Floyd Sheffield and wife Shelia of Robbins; mother, Dora Morgan Sheffield of Eagle Springs; sister-in-law, Brenda Sheffield of Eagle Springs; brother-in-law, Norman Lineberry of Tobaccoville; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Elder Sheffield; brothers, Roger, Cecil and Jerry; sister, Ester Lineberry, and brother-in-law Jesse York.

PITTSBORO — George C. Scurlock, Sr., 81, of the 4800 block of Old Graham Road, Pittsboro, died Friday (12/13/13) at his residence.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at St. Matthews AME Zion Church, Pittsboro. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Ruby Perry Scurlock; three children, Shinzuia Scurlock Whitfield; George Clifton Scurlock Jr. (Judy) and Shekethia Scurlock Edwards, all of Pittsboro; two sisters, Sarah Scurlock Rogers and Linda Scurlock Cheek (Colon); four grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

JOYCE BUTTS BROWN
BUNNLEVEL — Joyce Butts Brown, 78, of Bunnlevel, died Friday (12/13/13) at her home.
She was born in Harnett County, the daughter of the late Roy W. and Thelma Partin Butts. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Aubert Brown; brother, Douglas Butts and a grandson, Joseph Brown. She owned and operated Butts and Brown Farm Supply in Bunnlevel and Lady Ann’s Dress Shop in Lillington, and was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers with Rev. Patrick Broaddus, Rev. Martin Groover and Dr. Michael Armistead officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home and other times at the home.
She is survived by her son, Tony A. Brown and wife Wanda of the home; grandchildren; and sister, Sue Honeycutt and husband Ted of Angier.

FRANCES YARBOROUGH VENABLE
BROADWAY — Funeral service for Frances Venable, who died Tuesday (12/10/13), was held on Friday at Hillmon Grove Baptist Church, Cameron, with Pastor Wayne O’Quinn officiating.
Soloist for the service was Britton Buchanan, accompanied by Britton Altman on the piano. Organist for the service was Joyce Rosser.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Dull, Derrick Whitaker, Keith Rogers, Jason O’Brien, Austin Reason and Jim Brockman.
Burial was at the Hillmon Grove Baptist Cemetery following the service.
