FRANCES YARBOROUGH VENABLE

BROADWAY — Frances Yarborough Venable, age 73, of Broadway, N.C., died on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

Frances was born on February 17, 1940 in Harnett County, N.C. to the late Malcom James Yarborough and Anna Mae O'Quinn Yarborough. She was a member of Hillmon Grove Baptist Church in Cameron. Frances enjoyed working puzzle books, reading, and watching television. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Berryman and husband Danny Ray of Broadway, N.C.; a son, Tony Venable and wife Sheila of Cameron, N.C.; a sister, Carolyn Dull and husband Junior of Cameron, N.C.; two brothers, John Yarborough of Sanford and Steve Yarborough and wife Cathie of Sanford, N.C. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Danielle Riddle, Shannon Buchanan, Carr Yarborough, Holly Venable, and Cory Venable and five great-grandchildren: Madison Whitaker, MacKenzie Riddle, Britton Buchanan, Dawson Buchanan, and Payton Yarborough and a great-great-granddaughter, Reighlynn Whitaker.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Hillmon Grove Baptist Church in Cameron with Rev. Wayne O'Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church and other times at the home of Danny Ray and Kay Berryman.

VERNA BELT INMAN

MT. AIRY — Mrs. Verna Belt Inman, age 93, of Mt. Airy, N.C., widow of Mr. Roger Inman, Jr., passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.

She was born April 1, 1920 in Baltimore County, MD to the late A.W Belt, Sr. and Laura Rawlings Belt. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Inman was a long time member of the Mt. Airy Country Club Ladies Golf Association.

Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law, Jean Inman Williams of Indian Trail, N.C., and Barbara Inman Bailey and David of Sanford, N.C.; two grandsons, Stephen Bailey of Fairfax, VA and Matthew Bailey of Carthage, N.C.; a brother, William Belt of Westminster, MD.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Inman was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dennis Williams; three sisters, Mary Horton, Dorothy Belt, Betty Marshall and a brother, A.W. Belt, Jr.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Oakdale Cemetery. The service will be conducted by Rev. Harry Ferguson.

The family will receive friends at 11:30 a.m. Thursday until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, N.C. 27017.

CARTHAGE — Johnie M. Kelly, 86, died Monday (12/9/13) at the First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the John Hall Presbyterian Church in Carthage.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivine are four sons, William Kelly, Michael Kelly, Johnie Kelly and Guy Kelly; three daughters, Mary Kelly, Martha Kelly and Antoinette Kelly; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

THELMA FERGUSON

SILER CITY — Thelma “Tony” Ferguson, 65, died Wednesday (12/11/13) at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro.

She was born March 1, 1948 to the late Jessie Alston Sr. and Virginia Alston. She was a homemaker and a self-employed caregiver. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Chickila Lynn Matthews; sisters, Geneva Alston and Virginia Alston; and brothers, Jessie Alston Jr. and Richard Alston.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Dewey Lee Ferguson; her son, Tracy Alston of Raleigh; her God-daughter, Jessica Toni Crumpler of Willow Springs; sisters, Jeannie Alston and Evangelist Lucille Brooks (Ellis), both of Siler City; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City.

RALEIGH — Melba “GranMel” Wester, 73, died Tuesday (12/10/13).
A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Evada Willis Tart.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Harnett Memorial Park in Lillington. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:15 p.m. prior to the service at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, and other times at her home.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Connie Mack Wester; son, Chris Wester of Durham; sister, Hilda Garris of Garner; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
