PITTSBORO — Mozelle Brooks Green, daughter of the late Manley and Nellie Snipes Brooks, was born in Chatham County on October 15, 1924. She departed her earthly life on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in her home, at the age of 89.

She attended school in Chatham County before moving away. While living in New York, she met and married the late Jule Green. She resided in New York until she retired and returned to Pittsboro, N.C., where she lived until her death.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Rodgers, James and Eddie Jack Brooks.

She is survived by sisters, Annie Matthews of Pittsboro, N.C., Shirley Frierson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; brothers, Lenon Brooks of Pittsboro, N.C. and Shelton Brooks of Washington, DC; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Homegoing services for Mrs. Green will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Pittsboro, N.C. Burial will follow in Mitchell Chapel A.M.E. Zion cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

FAYETTEVILLE — Betty J. Evans, 75, of 1105 Strickland Bridge Road, died Thursday (12/12/13) at Highsmith Rainey Hospital in Fayetteville. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Cunningham & Sons Mortuary Inc. of Fayetteville.


SANFORD — Emmaline McPhatter, 93, of 700 South Horner Blvd., died Friday (12/6/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late George and Bessie Taylor, and the sister of three brothers the late Cleo, Joseph and Jacob Taylor. She attended Lee County Training Schools later known as W.B. Wicker School. In addition to her parents and brothers, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Amos McPhatter, and son, Alvin R. McPhatter.

She is survived by a son, William McPhatter; one grandson; several nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blandonia Presbyterian Building Fund.

A private service will be conducted at a later date.

SANFORD — Margaret Elizabeth Hall, 67, died Friday (12/13/13) at Tara Plantation of Carthage.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Eugene Ussery and Pastor John Chavis officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

She was born in Asheville on Nov. 24, 1946, to James Logan and Eva Miller Lytle. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Logan and Eva Miller Lytle.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Peyton Hall; two children, Tracy Knight  and husband Chris of Carthage and Randall Peyton Hall and wife Michelle of Sanford; one sister, Louise Hennings of Sanford; one brother, Jimmy Lytle of Carthage; and four grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church from 6 to 8 p.m. today and other times at the home of Tracey Knight, 1058 Shaw Road, Carthage.

MONCURE — Donald Merle Lawrence, 50, died Thursday (12/12/13).
Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Haywood Independent Bible Church Cemetery.
He was born in South Carolina, a son of the late John Harvey Lawrence Jr. and Ruth Bullard Lawrence. He was a graduate of East Carolina University earning a degree in history, and a veteran of the Army and the Navy.
He is survived by a son, Shane Lawrence of Sanford; sister, Carol Beasley and husband Ronald of Moncure; brothers, Joe Lawrence and wife Melva of Grifton, and John “Lynn” Lawrence and wife Julie of Moncure.
The family will receive friends at the family home.
