MONCURE — Graveside service for Donald Merle Lawrence, 50, who died Thursday (12/12/13), was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Haywood Independent Bible Church Cemetery by the Rev. Gary Moore.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Irma Leonard Gilliam, 78, of Roanoke, Va., formerly of Sanford, who died Tuesday (12/10/13), was held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church by Dr. Jeff Clark. Burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery.

During the service, the congregation sang. Organist was Dianne W. Stanley.

Pallbearers were Alex Mulford, Tim Nelson, Jonathan Stone, Matthew Stone, Patrick Stone and Ronnie Stone.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Joseph Harold Kelly, 79, who died Wednesday (12/11/13), was held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Turner's Chapel Church with Pastor Bruce MacInnes and Pastor Reid Dickens officiating. Entombment followed at Lee Memory Gardens Chapel Mausoleum.

Keyboardist was Pam Riddle. The congregation sang three selections.

Pallbearers were Darrell Gunter, Bob Ethridge, Kelly Watson, Wayne Spivey, Billy Bryant and Carl Salmon.

ANNIE MYRTLE FARRAR

PITTSBORO — Annie Myrtle Farrar, 79, of 737 Hillsboro St., died Monday (12/16/13). Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Knotts Funeral Home in Pittsboro.

ROY THOMAS MCNEILL

ROBBINS — Roy Thomas McNeill, 68, of 1516 Plank Road, Saturday (12/14/13) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

He was retired from Perdue Farms after 47 years of service as a truck driver. He was also known as the Wagon Master of Carthage.

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Flint Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. William Hancock and the Rev. Burton King officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Wilma Chalflinch McNeill; daughter, Jeanne McNeill Maness and husband Marty of Robbins; two granddaughters; sisters, Maxine Ritter of Robbins, Lorene M. Hussey and husband Alan of Ramseur, Nettie M. Reynolds of Highfalls and Riley M. Turner of Sandy Ridge in Candor; brothers, Richard McNeill and wife Louise of Vass, and Paul McNeill and wife Eva Mae of Bennett; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas William McNeill and Beulah Wallace McNeill; sisters, Dora Kennedy, Margie Hussey and Dorothy Garner; and brothers, Garvin and Clarence McNeill.

Visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett, and other times at the home of his daughter.

AGNES WICKER APPLE

WHISPERING PINES — Agnes Wicker Apple, 89, formerly of Sanford, died Saturday (12/14/13) at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst.

She was born in Lee County, on March 22, 1924, to the late J. Turner Wicker and Renna Munn Wicker who both died early in her life. After their death she was raised by her stepmother, Mattie Belle Underwood Wicker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lawrence “R.L.” Apple; sisters, Eoline Wicker Brooks and Hazel Corinna Wicker; and a half-brother, Clyde Wicker. She was a member of Lemon Springs United Methodist Church where in previous years she enjoyed singing in the choir.

She is survived by her son, Ronnie Apple and wife Ann of Sanford; daughters, Linda Apple Evanovich and husband David of Greenville and June Apple Galloway and husband Gerald of Whispering Pines; a brother, Talmadge Wicker of Lemon Springs; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Lemon Springs United Methodist Church with Pastor Roberta Byram presiding. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

LESTER JONES

BENSON — Lester Jones, 73, of 3933 Benson Hardee Road, died Monday (12/16/13) at his home.

He was born Aug. 23, 1940 in Carroll County, Va., to the late John Daniel and Susie Frances Wynne Jones. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hiatt Jones, and a brother, Roy Chester Jones. He was a forklift driver with Apex Lumber Company and also a member of Salem Baptist Church in Apex.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Virginia Sue and Estul Johnson of Benson, Tommy Lee Jones and Ricky Joe and Connie Jones, all of Willow Spring, and Billy Joe and Barbara Jones of Sanford; brothers, Jesse Jones and Bobby Jones, both of Mt. Airy, Chester Wiley Jones of Dobson, Joe Bill Jones of Texas and Randy Jones of Virginia; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home immediately following the memorial service.

FAYETTEVILLE — Betty J. Evans, 75, of 1105 Strickland Bridge Road, died Thursday (12/12/13) at Highsmith Rainey Hospital in Fayetteville.

She is survived by her husband, Norman Evans; sons, Anthony L. Evans and James D. Evans; daughters, Norma J. Blue, Donna Odom and Erica L. Evans; and five grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville. Burial will be at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Visitation will be held today from 2 to 7 p.m. at Cunningham & Sons Mortuary in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE — Vonnie C. Atkins, 40, of 4877 Canyon Circle, died Thursday (12/12/13) at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

She is survived by daughters, Joycelyn Noel Crockton and Alicia Renee Carr; sisters, Gwenda Huddleston, Necole Foley, Shaunta Autry, Elaine Smith, Barbara Smith Goodman and Sheila Smith Shipp; and brother, Eddie Donnell Smith.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Turkey. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

SHARINA ANN HOPE DELGADO MERRIMAN

SANFORD — Sharina Ann Hope Delgado Merriman, 26, died Friday (12/13/13) at UNC Hospitals.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. Thursday at Wake Memorial Gardens in Cary.

She was born in Oakland, Calif., and was a graduate of Cary High School. She worked at the Sunset Grill which now is the Big Easy.

She is survived by her husband, Ronie Leslie Delgado Miranda; daughter, Leslie Ann Emperatriz Delgado Merriman; her parents, Gene and Susan F. Merriman of Cary; her birth mother, Lisa McMillan of Sanford; sisters, Ashley Merriman of Cary and Marina Karna of Garner; and brothers, William Merriman of Cary and Jon McMillan of Tennessee.
