CARMEN DALE BUIE COLLINS

BROADWAY — Carmen Dale Buie Collins, age 43, of Broadway, N.C., died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital.

She was born in Lee County on May 18, 1970. Mrs. Collins formerly worked with the Lee County Sheriff's office as a dispatcher.

She is survived by her husband, Dwayne Collins of the home; her parents, Van Buie and wife Janice Tart Buie of Broadway; three sons, Darren Collins and fiancée Lynsi of Sanford, Carl Collins and Colby Collins of the home; a sister, Kelly Buie Jones and husband Joshua of Sanford; and a grandchild, Laci Collins.

The family will receive friends Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home and other times at 1680 Buie Rd., Broadway.

The funeral will be held at Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church, Broadway, N.C., Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Doug Houston presiding. Burial will follow at church cemetery.

CATHERINE JEAN LAMM REYNOLDS

LILLINGTON — Catherine Jean Lamm Reynolds, 61, died Thursday (12/19/13) at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital.

She is the daughter of Wilbert Lamm and the late Barbara McGuire.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Reynolds; a daughter, Catherine Yvette Hope of Lillington; a brother, Robert Lamm and wife Cathy of Pikeville; three sisters, Patti West and husband Doug of Cameron, Cindi Powell and husband David of Wayne County, Michelle Garcia of Michigan; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Bill Goodnight officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home.

GERALDINE ELLIOTT WOOD

SANFORD — Geraldine Elliott Wood, 78, died Wednesday (12/18/13) at her home.

A celebration of life will be held today at 2 p.m. at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Boyette officiating. Burial will follow at the Pineywood Baptist Church Cemetery in Cameron. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

She was born in Sanford on Jan. 2, 1935, to Charlie William and Cora Sue Carter Elliott. She worked at Robbins Hosiery Mill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wesley Wood; her parents, Charlie William and Cora Sue Carter Elliott; and  three brothers, Oscar Elliott, Alvin Elliott and Charlie Junior Elliott.

She is survived by two daughters, Angel Wood and wife Dee Joyner of Broadway, Vivian Evans and husband Scott of Sanford; three sons, James Wesley Wood and wife Diane of Whispering Pines, Charles David Wood and wife Susan of Cameron, Charlie William Wood and wife Carol Jean of Robbins; two sisters, Carol Ring of Vass and Martha Wall of Carthage; one brother, Tommy Elliott of Sanford; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Thomas Murray Waldo, 76, who died Thursday (12/12/13), was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Turner's Chapel Church by Pastor Bruce MacInnes. Burial followed at the family cemetery in Cumnock with military honors.

During the service, soloist was Shatauka Hall Johnson and members of the congregation shared memories.

Pallbearers were Jonathan David Bean, Thomas Joey Hall, Reggie Hoover, Caleb Laverack, Jarrett Laverack and Glen McDuffie.

APEX — Joe Lester Alston, 89, of 238 Alston Road, died Saturday (12/14/13) at his residence.

He is survived by his daughters, Gloria Alston Davis and Alice Alston Noell, both of Apex, and Carolyn Alston McKinnie (Wayne) of Durham; two brothers-in-law, Robert (Mitzie) Boone of Apex and Thomas Boone of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

CAMERON — James Michael Mallette, 43, of 556 Marks Road, died Friday (12/13/13) in Harnett County.

He is survived by his fiancee, Sherry C. Harrison; two daughters, Jennesis Mallette of the home and Sherica Smith of Spring Lake; two stepsons, Michael Cameron and Sherrod Harrison, both of the home; one grandson; his mother, Florence Mallette (Albert Lewis) of Cameron; one brother, Anthony Mallette (Nikki) of Cameron; one sister, Virginia Quillens (“Q”) of Fayetteville; three aunts; two uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Works For Christ Christian Center.

CECIL EDGAR WHITT

CAMERON — Cecil Edgar Whitt, 71, died Thursday (12/19/13) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital of Pinehurst.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joel Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

He was born in Dobson on May 24, 1942, to Lee and Susie Whitt. He was a truck driver most of his career. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Susie Crissman Whitt, and one brother, Frank Whitt.

He is survived by three children, Mechelle Hash and husband Shelby, Gail Thomas and husband Marty, Shane Whitt and wife Karen, all of Sanford; two sisters, Ruby Haynes of Tobaccoville and Betty Woodard of Carthage; one brother, General Whitt of Vass; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

DORIS BURNS WILLIAMS THOMAS

SANFORD — Doris Burns Williams Thomas, 92, died Thursday (12/19/13) at Sanford Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Guilford County on April 28, 1921, to the late Cora Alice Burns. In addition to her mother, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, John A. Williams, and second husband, Bailey Thomas Jr. She attended Deep River School and Central Carolina Community College in the nursing program. She worked at Hall's Flower Farm and Lee County Hospital. She also sold Avon for several years. She was a member of Zion Christian Church.

She is survived by a son, John Allen Williams of Sanford; a daughter, Ann Stewart and husband J.D. of Sanford; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. (one hour prior to the funeral service) at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Saturday and at other times at the home of Ann and J.D. Stewart.

Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.
