PITTSBORO — James Leonard Alston, 75, of 600 Millbrook Drive, Pittsboro, died Wednesday (1/1/14) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Alston; two brothers, Ralph French (Loretta) and Clarence Degraffenreidt (Zena Mae), all of Pittsboro; two stepsons, Andrew Evans (Mary) of Pittsboro and Aaron Evans of Chapel Hill; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one Godson, Rodney Snipes; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church in Pittsboro. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

MARGIE FRIDDLE JOHNSON
SOUTHERN PINES — Margie Friddle Johnson, 87, of Southern Pines died Tuesday (12/31/13) at FirstHealth Hospice House.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Cameron Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Plowman officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. A private burial will be held at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
She was born in Dacusville, S.C., on March 7, 1926, to John Elliott and Anna Robinson Friddle. She was a dedicated pastor's wife and was a loving homemaker and tailor. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Elliott and Anna Robinson Friddle; two sisters, Vera Dacus and Jessie McSwain; and three brothers, J. Roy Friddle, William Friddle and Buford Friddle.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Rev. David W. Johnson; three children, Marvin Johnson and wife Ginny of Monroe, Karen Johnson and husband Bobby Vaughn of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Sandra Birckhead and husband Mike of Raleigh; one sister, Velma Stroud of Greenville, S.C.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

CAMERON — Funeral service for Bentley Chase Patton, infant son of Carlton Alton Patton III and Heather Diane Christian Patton of Cameron, who died Monday (12/30/13), was held Friday at 11 a.m. at Hillmon Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne O'Quinn officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
Pianist was Joyce Rosser. A recording of “Gone Too Soon” was played.
The family received friends at the church following the graveside service.

BROADWAY — Patricia Elaine Mason of Broadway died Friday (1/3/14) at her home.
She was born in Lee County, daughter of Gladys H. Mason and the late Clinton Roland Mason. She was preceded in death by her father and brother, Rev. Isaac Ernest Mason. She was a member of the Central Baptist Temple.
A memorial and celebration of life service will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Central Baptist Temple with the Rev. Mike Oldham officiating.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Leigh Lee (John David) of Lillington; mother, Gladys H. Mason of Broadway; brother, James W. Mason (Deby) of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; sister-in-law, Flora Mason of Broadway; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Central Baptist Temple on Sunday prior to the memorial service.
