DURHAM — John W. “Jack” Godkin, Sr., 69, died Saturday, July 5, 2014.

Jack was born May 6, 1945 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to the late Willard Joseph and Ellen Kotz Godkin. He retired in 1996, after 25 years, from Coty division of Pfizer Inc. Jack was an avid traveler, scuba diver, snow skier, a connoisseur of coffee, and master of “The Wine and Cheese”.

Surviving are: his wife of 6 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Sheely Godkin of Durham; two sons, John W. Godkin Jr. and wife Susan of Durham, Jeffrey M. Godkin and wife Christy of Davidson; a daughter, Jennifer G. Lewis and husband Kermit of Sanford; six grandchildren, Sarah, Laura, William, Paul, Madeline and James; a brother, Dr. James D. Godkin and wife Donna of Tennessee; a sister, Bonnie Zinck and husband James of Virginia.

The family will be present 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 West Main St., Durham.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Infant Catholic Church, 5000 South Park Dr., Durham.

SANFORD — Clyde “Butch” Morgan Jr., age 76, of Sanford, N.C., died Monday, July 7, 2014, at his residence.

Mr. Morgan was born on October 22, 1937, in Cumberland County, N.C. to the late Master Sergeant Clyde H. Morgan Sr. and Travis Cunningham Morgan. He was a retired buyer for a condenser manufacturing company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three nephews, Travis Michael “Wingnut” Upchurch, Alvah Mark Upchurch and Jonathon Mark Upchurch.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Bullis Morgan; two sisters, Meta M. Upchurch and husband Melvin of Lemon Springs, N.C. and Frances M. Perkins of Durham, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

The funeral will be held Thursday, July 10, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Backlund and Rev. Andy Foley officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery.

ANGIER — Leland “Stan” Montgomery II, 45, died at home with his ol lady, Judy May by his side along with their friend Brenda Duncan.

Stan is survived by his ol lady, Judy May; daughter, Becca Montgomery; son, Brandon Montgomery; mother, Becky Sercy; brother, Brian Horne; his constant companions, Perry, Ellie May, Spice and too many other brothers and sisters to mention.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. Following the Memorial Service a benefit honoring the memory of Stan's life will be held at 178 Hilltop Road, Broadway, NC 27505.

SANFORD — Marian McDowell Mashburn of Sanford died Saturday (7/5/14).

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Spring Lane Assembly by Pastor Dexter Adams.

She was born in Conway, S.C., to the late Roland Tripp and Janie Tripp. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Mashburn Sr.

SANFORD — Graveside service for Martha Elizabeth Harward Harrington, 85, of Sanford, who died Friday (7/4/14), was held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Turner's Chapel Church with the Rev. Reid Dickens officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Soloist and guitarist at the graveside was Jerry Garner.

Pallbearers were Glen McDuffie, Billy Schoolcraft, Joseph Stewart and Joey Stewart.

SOUTHERN PINES — Seth Jess Hoders, 92, of Southern Pines, died Thursday (7/3/14) at St. Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines.

He was born in New York on Sept. 15, 1921, to Harold and Lottie Weinberg Hoders. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Ruth Hoders; parents, Harold and Lottie Weinberg Hoders; and sister, Vera Zuckerman.

He is survived by his children, Jeffrey Hoders of Florida, Leslie Jordan of Michigan and Lauran Hoders of Connecticut.
