PATRICIA ANN MCARTHUR

BROADWAY — Patricia Ann McArthur, 79, of Broadway, died Wednesday (7/9/14) at Central Carolina Hospital.

She was born in Harnett County, daughter of the late Alton Norman McArthur and Maggie Vera McNeill McArthur. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ophelia Johnson and Cate Thomas, and brothers, Norman McArthur and Willie Gray McArthur. She was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church and was a hairdresser for many years at Mabel’s Beauty Shop in Broadway.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Doug Houston officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

She is survived by her sisters, Catherine Starkey of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Edna Kelly of Fuquay-Varina; brothers, Samuel McArthur and Rex McArthur, both of Broadway, and John McArthur of Level Cross.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway and other times at the home of Samuel McArthur.

LILLINGTON — Robert R. Swope, 92, of Lillington died Wednesday (7/9/14) at Central Harnett Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home & Crematory.

 

TOMMY LESTER MARTIN

GOLDSTON — Funeral service for Tommy Lester Martin, 64, of Goldston, who died Thursday (7/3/14), was held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Danny Berrier, the Rev. Ira Smith and the Rev. Robbie O’Quinn officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Recorded music was played.

Active pallbearers were Richard Gibson, Joe Komisar, Randy McMillan, Aaron Bullard, Jimmy Stewart and Greg Lloyd. The Lee County Honor Guard presented the colors. Members of the EMS were honorary pallbearers.

PAULINE MCDUFFIE HOLT

SANFORD — Funeral service for Pauline McDuffie Holt of 524 Pyrant Road, who died Sunday (7/6/14), was held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Grace Chapel Christian Church with the Rev. Robert Yandle and James Estes officiating. Burial followed at Grace Chapel Cemetery.

Pianist was Betty Sue McNeill. Soloist was Connie Dean.

Pallbearers were nephews: Lavern Hargrove, Larry Harrison, Dale Harrison, Gene McDuffie, Tim Talbott and Brian Gunter. Members of the Annie Belle Register Sunday School Class sat together as a group.

KALIA BARBARA DEANNA PARKER

SPRING LAKE — Kalia Barbara Deanna Parker, 5, died Wednesday (7/2/14) at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville.

She is survived by her mother, Katherine Parker; sister, Zakhya Parker; brothers, Jaylin Jones, Brelin Jones and Raevon Jones.

Funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Living Water Assembly of God in Spring Lake with Pastor James Gaulden officiating.

Arrangements are by Elizabeth Street Mortuary in Spring Lake.

 

MARIAN MCDOWELL MASHBURN

SANFORD — Memorial service for Marian McDowell Mashburn of Sanford, who died Saturday (7/5/14), was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Spring Lane Assembly of God by Pastor Dexter Adams and Pastor Steve Rosser.

During the service, the congregation sang, and soloists were Ed Lee and Rachael Mashburn. Pianist was Peggy Tracy. Special music written by Mrs. Mashburn was played during the service.

BETTY RUTH SPEAGLE CHRISTMAS

SANFORD — Funeral service for Betty Ruth Speagle Christmas, 80, who died Sunday (7/6/14), was held Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jeff Chappell and the Rev. Roger Thomas officiating. Burial followed at Lee Memory Gardens.

The congregation sang with recorded music. Special music provided by Coy and Lydia Hall. Recorded music was played.

Pallbearers were Gerald Bridges, Matthew Hackney, Charlie Parks, Michael Hackney, Bobby Fletcher and Lonnie Drew.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

 

ROBERT LEWIS GRIFFIN

CAMERON — Robert Lewis “Bobby” Griffin, 82, of Cameron, died Wednesday (7/9/14) at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 29, 1931, in Lee County to the late Arthur Jefferson Griffin and Ruby Brown Griffin. He was a truck driver for 56 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Wicker Griffin, and brothers, Billy Griffin and Lawrence Griffin.

He is survived by three sons, Robby Griffin and wife Mary of Sanford, Jay Bird Griffin of Lemon Springs and the Rev. Michael Griffin and wife Pamela of Rockingham; two sisters, Aldena G. Jinar of Elwood City, Pa. and Brenda G. Smith and husband Larry of Sanford; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at 2588 Valley Road.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Griffin officiating. Burial will follow at Shallow Well Cemetery.

FRANK DARRELL DICKENS

MONCURE — Funeral service for Frank Darrell Dickens, 90, of Moncure was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Christian Chapel Christian Church with the Rev. Steve Johnson and the Rev. Gary Moore officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with military rites.

Pianist was Kelvin Crump. The congregation sang three selections.

Pallbearers were Anthony Crouch, Andy Burney, Don Schriner, Otis Weaver, Patrick Hastings and John Bluer.

DURHAM — Doris H. Watson, 76, of Durham, formerly of Sanford, died Wednesday (7/9/14) at Durham Regional Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Watson Memorial-Dunningham & Son’s Mortuary in Fayetteville.

 

TALMADGE THEO OLDHAM

SANFORD — Talmadge Theo Oldham, 87, of Sanford died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Carbonton United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Oldham was born in Lee County, a son of the late Wilbur and Mandy Oldham. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Martindale Oldham, five brothers and one sister. He retired from Cherokee Brick as a Kiln Fireman, was a member of Carbonton United Methodist Church, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany.

Mr. Oldham is survived by his daughter, Sue Marshburn of Sanford; half sisters, Ann Fore of Olivia and Marie Hasley of Sanford; two granddaughters, Sonya Gilliland and husband Allen of Goldston and April Craven and husband Nick of Coleridge; three great-grandchildren, Garrett, Callie and Seth.

The family will begin greeting friends at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, and other times at 6942 Carbonton Road, Sanford.
