SANFORD — Memorial service for Wanda Gibbs McCollough, 86, who died Sunday (7/13/14), was conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Flat Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Matt Riggsbee officiating.

Organist was Regina Mangum, Minister of Music was Leonard Harris and the congregation sang. A special recorded song was also played. Remembrances were read that were written by the family.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.


SANFORD — Funeral service for Samuel Benton Farrar, 88, of Sanford, who died Sunday (7/13/14), was held Tuesday at 12 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Hancox officiating. Burial followed at Shallow Well Cemetery.

Recorded music was played during the funeral service and at the graveside.

Active pallbearers were Greg Deck, Marshall McNeill, Ashley Cox, Doug Womack, Ryan LeBlanc, Scott Hair and Josh Jones. Honor Guard and Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Sanford Police Department.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.


SANFORD — Bennie Ray Thaxton, 86, of 309 N. Steele St., Sanford, died Sunday (7/13/14) at his residence.

He was born in Green County, Miss., on Oct. 6, 1927, to the late Ollie Mae Harvison and Curtis Thaxton. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wydel; and brother, Gerald.

He is survived by his wife, Joann Abbott Thaxton; daughter, Karen Thaxton Smith (Steve) of New Orleans, La.; brother, Curtis Thaxton (Linda) of Carrier, Miss.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He will rest in the Columbarium at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

A memorial service will be held at the church Saturday, July 26, at 11 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to join the family after the service in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Helping Hands Clinic.

LILLINGTON — Cornelius Allen Tart, 82, of Spring Lake, died Wednesday (7/16/14) at his home.

He was born July 18, 1931, in Vance County to the late John Robert and Ethel Mae Allen Tart. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Bobby Jean Holder Tart; and two sisters, Bernetta Fish and Carolyn Norris. He was a member of College Lakes Baptist Church.

He is survived by three children, Sharon Graham and husband Charles of Sanford, Timothy Tart and wife Shelley of Spring Lake, and Rev. Robert Tart and wife Lynda of Bahama; a sister, Nancy “Red” Fish of Linden; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at College Lakes Baptist Church in Fayetteville with the Rev. Samuel Lanier officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home and other times at his home.
