JOSEPH TIPTON GODFREY
SANFORD — Joseph Tipton “Buddy” Godfrey, age 75, of Sanford, NC died Saturday July 19, 2014.
He was born July 5, 1939 in Harnett County, NC to the late John Robert and Mary West Godfrey. Mr. Godfrey served his country in the U.S. Army in his early years and then started his career as a butcher and local farmer.
Buddy was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Jean Godfrey and his son, Joseph Tipton Godfrey Jr.
Mr. Godfrey is survived by his sons, Joseph Scott Godfrey and his wife Renee of Pittsboro, NC and Christopher Damon Godfrey and his wife Tiah of Leander, TX; his daughter, Lisa White and her husband Jimmy of Pittsboro; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Black, Shannon White, Adam Godfrey, Caleb Godfrey, Taylor Pate, Danielle Godfrey and Natalie Godfrey; two great-grandchildren, Malachai Black and Caden Black; a brother, Don Godfrey and his wife Trudy of Sanford, NC; and a sister, Frances Beattie and her husband Roger of Sanford.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Griffin Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association or UNC Hospice of Pittsboro.

LANDON CLIFFORD MCNEILL JR.
GREENSBORO — Landon Clifford McNeill Jr., age 71, of Greensboro, N.C. passed away Sunday (7/20/14) at his home.
He was born in Lee County on August 28, 1942, son of the late Landon Clifford McNeill Sr. and Etta Inez Coleman McNeill. He was a graduate of Benhaven High School.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday (7/23/14) at Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Doug Houston and the Rev. Preston Hunter. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betsy Lynn Matthews McNeill of the home; three daughters, Michelle Wheeler Ferguson of Thomasville, N.C., Dana Lynn McNeill of Greensboro, N.C., Tracy McNeill Lowe (Mark) of Greensboro, N.C.; one son, Clifford Odell Wheeler (Meloney) of Sanford, N.C.; three sisters, Jeanette Carlyle of Youngsville, N.C., Nancy Wilson (Larry) of Mamers, N.C., and Debbie Cox (Tony) of Broadway, N.C.; one brother, Don McNeill (Connie) of Durham, N.C.; four grandchildren: Sarah Ferguson, Garret Wheeler, Kailey Lowery and Landon J. McDowell.
The family will receive friends Tuesday (7/22/14) from 6-8 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway, and other times at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford O. Wheeler at 751 Sheriff Watson Road, Sanford, N.C.

SANFORD — Marcell Chesney, 87, of 2723 Kendale Drive, Sanford, died Saturday (7/19/14) at Westfield Rehabilitation and Health Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Knotts Funeral Home.

ROBBINS — Bobbie Addie Thomas, 74, of 920 Lakey Siding Road, Robbins, died Thursday (7/17/14) at Mancare Health Service in Pinehurst.
Funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at Belleview AME Zion Church in Robbins. Burial will follow at New Zion Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
She is survived by her mother, Arbella Williams of Robbins; daughters, Susan Thomas of Detroit, Mich., and Andrea Jones (Mike) of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Vernell Hopson of Ecorse, Mich., JoAnne Ricks of Trinity, Patricia (Elise) Graham of Anchorage, Alaska, and Connie Williams of Durham; brother, Cedric Williams (Michelle) of Asheboro; three aunts and one uncle.

NORA FAYE WOOD WALLACE
SANFORD — Funeral service for Nora Faye Wood Wallace, 62, of Sanford, who died Thursday (7/17/14), was conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Beaver Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Darrin Moore officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
Recorded music was played. Both Melanie Wood and Suzanne McDonald were pianists. Music solo was given by Kipp Thompson. The congregation also sang. Remembrances were given by brother, Don Wood, and a eulogy given by Pastor Darrin Moore.
Pallbearers were Steve Yarnell, Donald Best, Tony Wallace, Gary Wallace, David Marion and Dr. Russell Harrell.

CARTHAGE — Marie Martin, 82, of Carthage died Saturday (7/19/14) at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.
Funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Carthage. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
She is survived by daughters, Cynthia Martin and Dixie Redic (Jimmy); one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; five sisters and two brothers.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Jimmy Lee Stone, 66, of Sanford, who died Friday (7/18/14), was held Monday at 2 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating. Burial followed at Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Recorded music was played.
Pallbearers were Lloyd Smith, Robert Smith, Carl Cox, Richard Byrd, Trey Smith and Carl Smith.

LILLINGTON — Jason Scott Boyd, 29, of Lillington died Saturday (7/19/14).
He was born in Chapel Hill, the son of Richard Boyd and Alma Moore. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He worked with Edwards Brothers in Lillington for five years. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Lee Moore, and paternal grandfather, Royce Rat Boyd.
Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Chapel in Lillington with the Rev. Robbie O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Dunn. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service.
He is survived by his fiancee, Tina Poindexter of their home; father, Richard Boyd and wife Cindy of Mamers; mother, Alma Moore of Sanford; maternal grandmother, Annie Moore of Sanford; paternal grandmother, Carolyn Godfrey of Olivia; two sisters, Jessica Taylor and husband Jonathan of Mamers and Annie Crawford of Lillington; two nieces and four nephews.
