LARRY MICHAEL PREAST
ARBYRD, MO — Larry Michael “Mike” Preast, formerly of Sanford, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 20, at his home in Arbyrd, Missouri.
He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Preast of Sanford and Alicia Deese of West End; his mother, Phyllis Preast Harmon of Sanford; his grandchildren, Sam Vogel and Taylor Kelly of Sanford, Parker and Kayce Deese of West End; and one great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Kelley of Sanford. His siblings include: Beverly Carmichael of New Jersey, Jim Preast of South Dakota, Penny Morgan of Lakeview and Paul Preast of Fairmont.
He was preceded in death by his father, Damon A. Preast, and brother, Timothy A. Preast.
Local funeral was Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 3 p.m. in the McDaniel Chapel in Senath with Rev. Mark McMinn officiating. Visitation began at 2 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Solid Rock Community Church in Sanford, N.C.
McDaniel Funeral Service of Senath, MO is in charge of local arrangements.
SANFORD — Marcell Chesney, 87, of 2723 Kendale Drive, Sanford, died Saturday (7/19/14) at Westfield Rehabilitation and Health Center.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.
A wake is scheduled for today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Knotts Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Floyd Chesney; five daughters, Patricia Thomas, Cynthia Phillip, Sheila Chesney-Harrison, all of New Jersey, Juliette Moorer of Rockaway Beach, N.Y., and Eve Grant of Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; sons-in-law, Al Phillip, Michael Harrison, Gregory Grant Sr. and Ronald Moorer, all of New York; three sisters, Luedell O’Neal, Mattie Mae Lightsey and Edith White, all of New York; one brother, Thomas Haynes of New York; five sisters-in-law, Cleanna Haynes, Valorie Chesney, Mary Chesney, Helen Dorsett and Katherine Marsh; one brother-in law, Ernest Chesney Jr.; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; and one adopted daughter, Cynthia Bryant Fowler of Raleigh.

BRODIE WENDELL PARKER SR.
SANFORD — Brodie Wendell “Peanut” Parker Sr., 73, of Sanford, died Wednesday (7/23/14) at Central Carolina Hospital.
He was born in Johnston County, son of the late Brody Parker and Medie Knowles Parker. He was a graduate of Meadow High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from Allied Fibers.
Graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Broadway Town Cemetery with the Rev. Garland Smith officiating.
He is survived by his son, Brodie W. “Bud” Parker Jr. and wife Brenda; sisters, Doris Williford, Magdalene Gillispie and Brenda Goldston; and brothers, Erby Parker, Kirby Parker, Sam Parker, Dan Parker and Donnie Parker.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.

ETTA JERNIGAN STRICKLAND
LINDEN — Etta Jernigan Strickland died Thursday (7/24/14).
She was born in Johnston County on Dec. 7, 1915, to the late George Millard Jernigan and Arrell B. Jernigan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Allen Strickland; a daughter, Jacquelyn Strickland; a granddaughter, Susan K. Hartman; and a son-in-law, Carl Leo Kelly. She was a member of Sardis Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter Number 243 in Lillington. She was also a charter member of the Linden Development Club.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sardis Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sally Henry, the Rev. Joseph Hester Jr. and the Rev. Gary Buffkin officiating. Burial will follow at Bunnlevel Cemetery in Bunnlevel.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home.
She is survived by a daughter, Delilah S. Kelly; two grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
