VICTOR B. KILGORE

BROADWAY — Victor B. Kilgore, 81, of Broadway, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, Sept. 15.

Victor was born in Delta, Pa., the son of Clarence and Nellie Pierson Kilgore in 1932. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 and thereafter worked as a carpenter at Aberdeen Proving Ground. He was a faithful and beloved Elder of Pine Grove Presbyterian Church for many years, an enthusiastic member of the Early American Steam Engine & Old Equipment Society, and a caretaker for Camp Donegal of Airville, Pa. Subsequent to his move to North Carolina in 2006, he was a faithful member and Elder of Broadway Presbyterian Church, as well as a volunteer for the Christian United Outreach Center.

Victor is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Jean; a sister, Harriet Garcia of Havre de Grace, Md.; a brother, Larry Kilgore of Airville, Pa.; three daughters, Cathy Griffith (Jeff) of Broadway, N.C., Bonnie Kilgore (Rick Kearney) of Gardners, Pa. and Patti Gerlach (Eric) of Langhorne, Pa.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was at Smith Funeral Home in Broadway, N.C. on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 6 until 8 p.m.

The funeral will be at Pine Grove Presbyterian Church in Sunnyburn, Pa. on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. with visitation in the fellowship hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Christian United Outreach Center, P.O. Box 2217, Sanford, N.C. 27331.

JEFFREY DARRELL WATSON

SANFORD — Jeffrey Darrell "Debo" Watson, 44, of 1761 Farrell Road, died Sunday (9/15/13) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

He was formerly of Greensboro.

He is survived by his parents, Bishop and Mrs. Larry Watson of Sanford; a brother, Derek Watson and wife Tiffany of Greensboro; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Works For Christ Christian Center. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s AME Zion Church at Gulf. No wake will be held.

HAROLD JOSEPH LATIMORE

PITTSBORO — Harold Joseph Latimore, 54, of 2050 NC Hwy 902, died Saturday (9/14/13) at his residence.

He was the son of Willie B. and Annie McClain Latimore.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Union Grove AME Zion Church in Pittsboro. Viewing will be held at the church from 12:30 to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

CARTHAGE — Lula Jane Bandy, 99, died Monday (9/16/13) at her residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Pugh & Smith Funeral of Carthage.

MARTHA POE HOBSON PURDIE

LILLINGTON — Martha Poe Hobson Purdie, 74, died Monday (9/16/13) at her home.

She was born in Lee County, the daughter of the late Richard Henry and Martha Mae Bowles Poe. She was a member of Lillington Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #243 serving in many stations. She retired from the Harnett County Board of Education after 30 years of service as a Bookkeeper. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Delbert Hobson and David Purdie; and two brothers, Sam Poe and Billy Poe.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lillington Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Bill Goodnight officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. A private burial will take place at Harnett Memorial Park.

She is survived by her daughters, Gail Hobson Shuford and husband Jody of Boone, and Debra Hobson Taylor and husband Lee of Lillington; three grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Railey and husband Ronnie of Atlanta, Ga., and Flora Perry and husband Luke of Sanford; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Poe of Sanford and Olive Herring of Dunn; and a number of nieces and nephews.
