MARY L. STIFFLER BOWSER

BEDFORD, Pa. — Mary L. Stiffler Bowser, 81, of Lincoln Drive, Bedford, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Altoona Regional Hospital.

She was born March 13, 1932 in Everett, daughter of the late Russell and Laura (Zimmerman) Sipes. She was first married to William O. Stiffler, who preceded her in death on December 21, 1997, and her second husband, Jack S. Bowser, who preceded her in death on November 22, 2009.

She is survived by a son, Dr. William M. Stiffler, married to the former Doris Hicks of Bedford and a daughter, Carolyn, wife of David Almond of Sanford, NC; a brother, Richard Sipes and wife Judy of Chicago; and five stepchildren; Janice, wife of Russ Diers, and Linda A. Bowser both of Tuscon, AZ, James R. Bowser married to the former Diane Klein of Cranberry Township, Lisa L., wife of Robert Young of Denver, PA, and Chad W. Bowser married to the former Brenda Elentrio of Landsdale; five grandchildren, Bryan, Christopher and Andrew Stiffler and Laura Jo and Bryce Love, eight step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Marjorie Wolf, Kathryn Sevill and Mabel Johnson; and five brothers, Robert, Paul, George, Percy and Jack Sipes.

Mary graduated from Everett High School Class of 1949 and from Gregg Business School in Chicago, IL. She worked at Bedford County Department of Public Assistance for 47 years and she served on their Board of Directors. Mary was one of the longest term employees ever for the “Great” state of Pennsylvania. She was a member of St. John's UCC Church and was a former Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of Altoona-Johnstown Tres Dias Community. Mary had a strong faith and love of God. She enjoyed reading. She was affectionately known as Grandy and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Johns United Church of Christ, in Bedford, with Rev. Robert R. Robertson officiating. Burial at Bedford Cemetery.

Friends were received Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday morning.

FRANCES RILEY CHRISTIAN

CHARLOTTE — Frances Riley Christian, age 92, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Sanford, N.C., passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013 at her home in Charlotte.

She was born on May 14, 1920 in Wilson County, N.C. to the late Charles Ernest Riley and Minnie Shue Riley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Christian and a son, Charles A. Christian.

She is survived by her children: a daughter, E. Gail Sessions and her husband John of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a son, Jack R. Christian and his wife Gail of Charlotte, N.C.; and a daughter, Emily L. Christian of Tallassee, AL; six grandchildren: Christy Sessions, Jay Sessions, and Sarah, John, Charles, and Timothy Christian. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Bible Church, 210 Amos Bridges Rd., Sanford, N.C. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

SANFORD — Jose Ramos, 82, previously from Guatemala, died Sunday (3/17/13) at FirstHealth of the Carolinas Moore Regional Hospital.

He was born in Guatemala on Dec. 12, 1930, to Silvia Ramos. He worked in maintenance for a city in Guatemala.

He is survived by his wife, Emma Ordonec Ramos of Guatemala; and two daughters, Jackie Gomas and Silvia Melgar and husband Jose, all of Sanford.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Primera Iglesia Bautista.

NELSON RAY FLYNN

SANFORD — Funeral service for Nelson Ray Flynn, 67, who died Friday (3/15/13), was held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Red Branch Baptist Church in Carthage with Pastor Scott McInnis and Pastor Joe Washburn officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with military rites.

His son Gary shared a eulogy. A trio consisting of Doug McKenzie on the banjo and Richard McKenzie on the guitar and vocalist Melissa McKenzie played and sang two songs. A DVD of picture memories was shared.

Pallbearers were Brian Flynn, David Flynn, Wanda Gattis, Alfred Gattis, Kevin Stanley and Joe Edwards.

LUCY GARNER ALLRED

ROBBINS — Lucy “Derotha” Garner Allred, 95, of 228 Allred Lane, died Saturday (3/16/13) at the home of her daughter.

Graveside service was conducted Monday at 2 p.m at. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a Moore County native and was retired from the textile industry. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Riley B. and Lillie Moore Garner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Clyde Allred; son, Vernon “Buck” Allred; and two granddaughters.

She is survived by one daughter, Verline A. Myrick of Robbins; sisters, Mary “Evelyn” Mohagen of Stanley, Josephine Forkner of Durham and Velma York of Seagrove; one brother, Daniel Lee Garner of Carthage; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

WARREN JAMES KENNEDY

ROBBINS — Warren James Kennedy, 91, of 212 Etta Lane, died Saturday (3/16/13) at the home of his son.

Funeral service will be conducted today at 2 p.m. at Bright Light Baptist Church where he was a member with the Rev. Ralph Voncannon and the Rev. Edwin Moore officiating. Burial will follow at the Kennedy Family Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

He was a Moore County native and a W.W. II Army veteran. He worked at Robbins Mill and Ithaca. He was the son of the late Daniel and Mary J. Spivey Kennedy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Welch Kennedy, and daughter, Brenda K. Williams.

He is survived by one son, Roger Warren Kennedy and wife Lilac of Robbins; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Monday at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett and other times at the home of his son, 167 Etta Ln., Robbins.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Wilbur Ralph Stephens Sr., 91, who died Wednesday (3/13/13), was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rocky Fork Christian Church with the Rev. Misty Mowery, the Rev. Kevin McHarg and the Rev. Garland Smith officiating. Burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery with full masonic rites.

During the service, the congregation sang and the Rev. Misty Mowery was the soloist. Pianist was Kimberly Davidson and trumpeter was Eric Cashion.

Pallbearers were members of Sanford Masonic Lodge No. 151 AF&AM and Friendship Masonic Lodge No. 763 AF&AM.

Honorary pallbearers were Waylon Kelly, Ronald Kelly, Walter Tyler, Jack Badgett, Tom Clark and David Murphy.

SANFORD — Funeral service for James Terrell “Jim” Morgan, 59, who died Thursday (3/14/13), was held at 2 p.m. Monday at New Life Praise Church by the Rev. Roger Thomas and the Rev. Mack Keck. Burial followed at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

During the service the congregation sang, soloist was John Gilmore, pianist was Coy Hall and the organist was Lydia Hall. The eulogy was by Pat Morgan and special remarks were by Van Gibson.

Pallbearers were Van Gibson, John Gilmore, Buddy Harris, Donnie Morrison, Kelly O’Quinn and Anthony Phillips.

Musicians were Minister Corey McCrimmon and Priscilla Thompson.
