ROMIE MONROE GOLDSTON JR.

PITTSBORO — Romie Monroe Goldston Jr., of 3874 Hwy 15-501, Lot 6, died Thursday (3/21/13) at his residence.

He is survived by two daughters, LaShawn Goldston of Darby, Pa., and Rhonda Goldston of Myrtle Beach; one son, Rodney Goldston of Philadelphia, Pa.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Wake will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. today.

ELLEN H. CARTER

SANFORD — Funeral service for Ellen H. Carter, 89, who died Friday (3/22/13), was held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Hillview Christian Assembly with Pastor Ray Bodin, the Rev. Curtis Norris and the Rev. Andy Foley officiating. Burial followed at Cameron Grove Cemetery.

Soloists/guitarist was Bobby Barbour and Jonathan Norris. Soloist with recorded music was the Rev. Curtis Norris. The congregation sang at the graveside.

Pallbearers were Michael Thomas, Chris Carter, C.J. Carter, Matt Mason, Hunter Dean and Briar Godwin.

BEVERLY ROGERS MCSWAIN

SILER CITY — Beverly Rogers McSwain, 59, died Friday (3/22/13) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

She was born in Chatham County to the late Lizzie L. Lindley and John Rogers. She was a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School and operated her own residential cleaning service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Doyl Rogers.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Unity Power House Church with the Rev. Bishop William Goins officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City.

She is survived by her husband, Gilbert McSwain; daughters, Shannon Rogers of Atlanta, Ga., and Kirshe McSwain and Alonna McSwain, both of Chapel Hill; four grandsons; brothers and sisters, Johnny Rogers, Rodhan Rogers, Larry Rogers, Hattie Alston and Banadette Patterson, all of Siler City, Shirley Jackson of Winston-Salem and Larry Rogers of Hamlet.

MARY FRANCES WILSON WATTERSON

BROADWAY — Funeral service for Mary Frances Wilson Watterson, 95, who died Friday (3/22/13), was conducted Sunday at Holly Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Parsons. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Organist was David Oyster. Pianist was Louise Oyster and choir director was Cynthia Spivey.

Pallbearers were Chuck Wilson, Waylon Wilson Jr., Ed Wilson, Ted Awana, Mike Wilson, Kenneth Cummings, Steve Patterson, Dwight Smith, Danny Thomas, Roger Brown and Tim Patterson.

Arrangements were by O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home.


GEORGE E. WILLIAMS SR.

PITTSBORO — George E. Williams Sr., 74, died Saturday (3/23/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was born in Chatham County to the late Exline and Sunnie Williams. He was a member of Evans Chapel AME Zion Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Marie Smith Williams; a sister, Pauline Nettles; and a brother, Tolbert Williams.

He is survived by daughters, Doris Williams of Bronx, N.Y., and Genesis (Sugar) Williams of the home; son, George E. Williams II of the home; stepdaughter, April Smith of Siler City; sisters, Corene Blair of Greensboro and Gerlene Taylor (Bobby) of Pittsboro; mother-in-law, Louise Smith of Pittsboro; brother-in-law, John Wayne Smith (Debbie) of Raleigh; sisters-in-law, Ella Smith and Annie Smith, both of Pittsboro, and Ruby Monteagudo and Brenda Martin (Teddy), both of Siler City; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Evans Chapel AME Zion Church in Siler City. Burial will follow at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church cemetery in Pittsboro.

LARRY VELTON JOHNSON

SANFORD — Funeral service for Larry Velton Johnson was held Monday at Miller-Boles Chapel with Pastor Chris Humphreys, Pastor Royce Baker and Dr. Rudy Holland presiding.

One song was played and one song was sung by Linda Totten. Pianist was Betty Sue McNeill. Remarks and a poem were given by Kevin Cleary.

Following the funeral, a graveside service was held at Center United Methodist Church cemetery with full military honors after which the family released doves.

Pallbearers were Donnie Overstreet, Ronnie Overstreet, Micky Cole, Kevin Cleary, Ed Skinner and Jacob Shean.

Arrangements were by Miller-Boles Funeral Home.


J. GENTRY MORGAN

CARTHAGE — J. Gentry Morgan, 84, died Saturday (3/23/13) at HCR Manor Care in Pinehurst.

Graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Cross Hill Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Archie Stevens.

A native of Moore County, he was a son of the late Nealie Jackson and Martha Jane Caddell Morgan, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation.

He is survived by a brother, Jack Morgan and wife Betty of Vass; a niece and several nephews.

The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. and other times at the residence of Jack and Betty Morgan.
