RUTH ADELE SOMMA

SANFORD — Ruth Adele Somma, age 89, of Sanford, died on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Sanford Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Ruth was born on November 29, 1923 in Buffalo, NY to the late Joseph Stablewski and Antonia Ralicki Stablewski. She was a devout Roman Catholic. Ruth loved to knit, read, and crossword puzzles. She loved and cherished her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Thompson and husband Dwight of Sanford, NC; two grandsons: Jacob Bender of Holly Springs, NC and Michael Bender and wife Hasina of Sanford, NC; two great-grandchildren, Xavier and Mekaylo Bender; and a nephew, Richard McCann and wife Barbara of Lobbock, TX.

Services will be held privately by the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park, Suite 10, Raleigh, NC 27615.

MARGARET ALLENE JUSTICE BROOKS

SILER CITY — Margaret Allene Justice Brooks, 95, of Wilmington, formerly of Siler City, died Monday, June 10, 2013 at Britthaven North Chase, Wilmington.

Mrs. Brooks was born in Chatham County on December 9, 1917, the daughter of Pearle and Pearl (Tysor) Justice. She was a kind loving mother, hard working from a family of nine. Allene was a member of Hickory Mountain Baptist Church and enjoyed playing Bingo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, D.C. Brooks Jr.; infant son, Bobby Lee Brooks; four sisters; three brothers; son-in-law, Donnie Kelly, and a grandson, Jeff Kelly.

She is survived by one daughter: Faye B. Kelly of Sanford, NC; two sons: Joe E. Brooks and wife, Suzy of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Wayne Brooks of Siler City, NC; one sister: Irma Langkamp and husband, Don of Springfield, VA; grandchildren, Richard Brooks of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Heather Brooks of Leland, NC, Lisa Rathy and husband, David of Asheville, NC, Scott Kelly of Sanford, April Bisese and husband, Tony of Asheboro, NC, Crystal Brooks of Asheboro, NC; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; special friend and former daughter-in-law, Gerry Brooks of Leland, NC.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 2:00-3:00 PM. at Rives Chapel Baptist Church, 4258 Rives Chapel Rd., Siler City, NC. A graveside service will follow in the church cemetery with the Rev. Tripp Foltz officiating.

CAMERON — Funeral service for Earl Cheek, 85, who died Friday (6/7/13), was held Monday at 4 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church with the Rev. Darrell Garner officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with military honors.

The church choir sang two selections. Janell Howington played the piano and Treva McKenzie played the organ.

Pallbearers were Larry Smith, Tommy McKenzie, Jimmy Hennings, Lynn Harris, Anthony Cheek and Randy Paschal.

SANFORD — Venila Eileen Liebert, 89, died Sunday (5/19/13).

DAISY OLIVE ROBERTS

OLIVIA — Daisy Olive Roberts died Sunday (6/9/13) at Parkview Rest & Retirement.

She was born in High Point, the daughter of the late William B. Olive and Beulah T. Olive on April 20, 1925. She graduated from Benhaven High School and Hardbarger Secretarial School. She was employed by Sears in Greensboro and Pope Air Force Base at the Flight Simulator and Instrument section.

She is survived by her husband, H.W. (Bob) Roberts; stepdaughter, Harriet Craven and her husband Tommy of Southern Pines; two sisters, Blanche Goldston of Goldston and Nancy Christian of Olivia; and her brother, Ronnie Olive of Olivia.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Olivia Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.

SANFORD — David Neal Jr., 51, died Saturday (6/8/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

He is survived by his father, David Neal Sr.; brothers, Eddie Major Neal, Rufus Martin Neal, Jerome P. McLean and Willie David Neal, all of Sanford, and Walter Neal of Georgia; sisters, Sharon Denise Neal, Cathy Mae Neal and Lula Mae Neal, all of Sanford; and  several aunts and uncles.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Prevailing Life Ministries with the Rev. Dr. J. Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Minter Cemetery on Minter School Road.

Viewing will be held from 1 until 7 p.m. today at Watson Memorial-Cunningham & Sons Mortuary Inc.

SANFORD — Funeral Mass for Walter Vincent Ertle III, 66, who died Friday (6/7/13), was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Father Hector Lachapelle officiating. Burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brandon Kivett, Johnny Holt, Bobby Smith, Bo Boyer, James Newell and Ray Giles.

GOLDSTON — Berta Ray Fox, 75, of 643 Roberts Chapel Church Road, died Monday (6/10/13) at Genesis Healthcare in Siler City. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Knotts Funeral Home.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Samuel Duncan Kirby, 73, who died Friday (6/7/13), was held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Solid Rock Community Church with Pastor Craig Dodson and Tim Coe officiating. A eulogy was given by granddaughter, Michelle Kirby. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

A recording of the song “Grandpa Told Me So” was played. Soloist and pianist were Ralph Harrison and Aaron Jackson.

Pallbearers were Daniel Strother, Steve Wofford, Chris Blakely, Jamie Thomas, Ed Rouse and Jesse Eddington.

TAYLOR HAYWOOD CLARKE

GREENSBORO — Taylor Haywood Clarke died Tuesday (6/4/13) in Texas.

He was born Jan. 31, 1948. He was preceded in death by relatives, Haywood Dallas Clarke, Lola Mae Clarke and Kenneth Denmark Clarke.

He is survived by his wife, Fredna Matthews Clarke; and daughters, Heather Clarke and Brooke Clarke Fish.

A memorial graveside service will be held at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro at 10 a.m. on Aug. 10.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Heather Lorene Walser, 21, who died Sunday (6/2/13), was held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating.

Betty Sue McNeill was the pianist. Recorded music was played.

Graveside service and burial followed Tuesday at noon at the Grubb Cemetery in Churchland with Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating.

Pallbearers were James Whitley, Joel Cameron, Tom H. Luck, Jimmy Lee, James Clontz and T. F. Bridges.
