POLLOCKSVILLE — Gladys Morris Forbes, 94, of Pollocksville, formerly of Pinetops, died Tuesday (2/18/14) at Brookstone Living Center in Pollocksville.

She was born in Edgecombe County, daughter of the late Zeno Morris and Lena Manning Morris. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Julius, Joseph, Luther and Zeno Morris; sister, Louise Morris Lewis; and her husband, Henry Forbes. She was a member of the Maccripine Free Will Baptist Church and worked for many years at the Soda Shop in Pinetops and the Red and White.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Maccripine Free Will Baptist Church in Macclesfield with the Rev. Don Holland officiating. Burial will be at the Hollywood Cemetery in Farmville.

She is survived by caregivers and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the funeral service.

FAYETTEVILLE – Christopher Michael Bryant, 41, of 2008 Powell St., Fayetteville, died Saturday (2/15/14) at home.

He is survived by his wife, Shannon; son, Christopher II; daughter, Breanne; sister, Kimberly Nash; father, Joe Bryant; and stepfather, Bernice Ratley.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Elizabeth Street Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at a later date.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Eva Belle Thomas Harness, 88, died Wednesday (2/12/14).

Born in Broadway to the late Arizona McNeill and Earl C. Thomas, she was also predeceased by her husband, Earl; brother and sister-in-law, Lynn and Sally Thomas; and brothers, Elbert and Wilbur Thomas. She was a member of Alexander Baptist Church. She retired from the Supply Department, Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 43 years of dedicated service.

She is survived by sons, Ted Harness and wife Sharon and Don Harness (Pam); daughters, Debbie Robinson, Sandy Law, and Denise Harris and husband Ron; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A service was held Saturday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m. in Alexander Baptist Church by Dr. Bryan Ray. Entombment was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorial donations may be made to Alexander Baptist Church, 4316 Pamela Court, Chesapeake, Va. 23321, or a charity of choice.

LILLINGTON — Edythe Elizabeth Taylor Darden West, 90, died Wednesday (2/19/14) at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

She was the daughter of James Harley Taylor and Jesse Esther Avent Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James B. (Dick) Darden Jr. of Clinton. They had four children, Denise Taylor Darden and husband Dr. Grady Morgan of Wilmington, William Ronald (Ron) Darden and wife Terry of Fayetteville, Steven Blaine Darden and wife Ina of Chapel Hill and James Bizzell (Jim) Darden III and wife Mary Nell of Clinton. She is survived by several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Ernest Warren West.

She is survived by two stepdaughters, Karen Garceau (Joe) of Garner and Janet Harris (Carl) of Zebulon, and stepgrandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her four siblings, James H. Taylor Jr. of Fayetteville, William Seymour Taylor of Smithfield, twin brother Kenneth McNeil Taylor of Smithfield and Jane Taylor Olive of Winston-Salem.

She was a member of Parker’s Grove Methodist Church.

A visitation will be held at Parker’s Grove United Methodist Church in Linden on Saturday  at 1 p.m., followed by a funeral service at the church at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at the Antioch Baptist Church cemetery in Mamers.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Barbara Ann Pickard Stone, 63, who died Sunday (2/16/14), was held Wednesday at Miller-Boles Chapel with the Rev. Tim Cross officiating.
