BEVELYN MCAULEY STEPHENS

SANFORD — Bevelyn McAuley Stephens, 90, of Sanford passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014.

A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Jonesboro United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. Friday before the service.

Mrs. Stephens was born in Harnett County, a daughter of the late Braxton L. McAuley and Daisy Kelly McAuley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Lynn Stephens Jr. and a daughter, Sharon S. Crone.

Mrs. Stephens is survived by her son, James L. “Jimmy” Stephens and wife Linda of Swansboro; two sisters, Foy Honeycutt of Linden, and Hazel Maddrey of Raleigh; grandchildren, Ilena Ormond and husband Dallas of Mebane, Paige Grubbs and husband Shawn of Broadway, Shane Stephens and wife Darlene of Mocksville, and Jennifer Dixon and husband Kenneth of Pfafftown; 13 great-grandchildren.

LINDA JO BUCKNER GOINS

SILER CITY — Linda Jo Buckner Goins, 67, of Ingle Street, Siler City died Monday (4/28/14) at UNC Hospitals at Chapel Hill.

She was born in Randolph County March 4, 1947, the daughter of Marie (Johnson) Thomas. She was a member of Hickory Mountain Baptist Church and had worked as an LPN at Sun Bridge Health and Rehabilitation. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Thomas; foster parents, Charlie and Ollie Buckner; and brothers, Ronald Lee, Ricky and Randy Thomas.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, James M. Goins; stepson, Eric Husketh of Hillsborough; brothers, Barry, Scott and Steve Thomas of Broadway; and one stepgrandson.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Val Chadwick and the Rev. Rodney Hellard officiating.

LUCILLE FRYE

CARTHAGE — Lucille Frye, 96, died Monday (4/28/14) at the FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today Wednesday at Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery conducted by the Rev. Matt Privett.

A native of Moore County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Jasper and Lissie Hannon Frye. She retired from Stevenson Inc. in Raleigh.

She is survived by two nephews, Gentry Frye and wife Lily of Carthage and William Frye of Sanford.

In lieu of food and flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 3244 Dowd Road, Carthage, N.C. 28327.

RUTH COVERT THOMAS

SANFORD — The family of Ruth Covert Thomas received friends at Miller-Boles Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Buffalo Cemetery.

Following the graveside service, a funeral service was held at St. Luke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Gene Cobb and the Rev. Jaye N. White officiating. Organist was Dianne Stanley and soloist was the Rev. Ray Gooch.

CAMERON — Funeral service for Edward Clifford Poppa, 70, of Cameron, who died Wednesday (4/23/14), was conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Douglas Garner and Jeff Butrum officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps followed in the Shallow Well Church Cemetery.

During the service, taped music selections were played.

Pallbearers were Norman Coore, Mark Stevenson, Douglas Badders, Kevin Campbell, Lenny Cummings and Andrew Sharum. Honorary pallbearer was James Duke Sr.

EAGLE SPRINGS — Patrick Person Sr., 36, of Eagle Springs, died Saturday (4/26/14) in Eagle Springs.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Carthage Elementary School Auditorium. Burial will follow at the Stone Cemetery in Carthage. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

He is survived by his wife, Veronica Person; daughters, LeShane, A’Lyan, Alexia and Sashay; mother, Patricia Person; and grandmother, Ella Person.
