LEWIS EDGAR BEAL

SANFORD — Lewis Edgar Beal, 82, of Sanford, died Monday (5/5/14) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital.

He was born in Lincoln County, on Nov. 3, 1931, to the late Pride Beal and Alda Robinson Beal. He was a meat cutter for several grocery stores in the area.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Helms Beal; three sons, Roger Beal and wife Linda of Charlotte, Danny Beal and wife Kay of Lincolnton, Tim Beal and wife Bobi of Missouri; daughter, Libby Beal McNeill and husband Jimmy of Sanford; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Parker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service also at the funeral home.

HAZEL LANGLEY GAUTIER

SANFORD — Funeral service for Hazel Langley Gautier, 88, of Sanford, who died Friday (5/2/14), was held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Sanford Church of God with the Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. Entombment followed at Lee Memory Gardens Chapel Mausoleum.

Trent Archer was keyboardist and music director. The congregation sang three hymns.

Pallbearers were Tim Gautier, Bobby Gattis, Darrell Kirk, Ronnie Pinson, John Gales, Eric Kelly and Randy Seagroves.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

ARTHUR BATES

CAMERON — Arthur Bates, 70, of 48 Alberta Lane, Cameron, died Monday (5/5/14) at Central Carolina Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Knotts Funeral Home.

MARTIN BERNARD BOOTH, MD

BETHESDA, Md. — Dr. Martin Bernard Booth, MD, of  8605 Ewing Drive, Bethesda, Md., died Monday (4/7/14).

He served in the U.S. Army as an NCO and later an Officer (Capt.)

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at Douglas Memorial Community Church, 1325 Madison Ave., Baltimore, Md. at 10:30 a.m. by the Rev. Todd Yearly, pastor.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Jackson Fair-Booth; four sons; two daughters; sisters; brothers; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Horton Funeral Service of Washington, D.C.

RODNEY LEWIS

RICHMOND, Va. — Rodney Lewis, 50, formerly of Sanford, died Tuesday (4/29/14) in Richmond, Va.

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Manning Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Richmond, Va.

He is survived by his wife, Candace Lewis; and his mother, Elouise Johnson Simmons of Virginia.

ELVA GRAY LEAIRD

LILLINGTON — Elva Gray Leaird, 91, of Lillington, died Sunday (5/4/14) at FirstHealth Hospital in Pinehurst.

She was born in Johnston County, the daughter of the late John R. and Lettie Smith Holley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cyrus Leaird, and sons, Bobby, J.T. and Joe Leaird. She was a member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church and was also a member in the Keenagers Club at Spring Hill United Methodist Church.

Funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor Terry Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Spring Hill United Methodist Church today from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the home of Ronda and Kris Melby.

She is survived by her son, Van Leaird of Lillington; daughter, Mary Lois Leaird of Broadway; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Jean Kirkman Chester, 86, of Sanford, who died Saturday (5/3/14), was held Monday at Buffalo Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Paul J. Shields and the Rev. Dr. Vernon C. Tyson. Burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery.

During the service, the congregation sang. Pianist was Pat Kelly.

Pallbearers were Raymond Bradley, Nelson Burke, Eddie Ellis, Kevin Kirkman, Raymond McCulloch and Don Whitaker.

SANFORD — Joseph Albert Gray Jr., 73, of Sanford, died Saturday (5/3/14).

He was born in New Hanover County, son of the late Joseph Albert Gray Sr. and Velma May Cooper Gray.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lee Memory Gardens with the Rev. Garland Smith officiating. Entombment will follow at Lee Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

He is survived by his sisters, Doris Connell (Jerry) of Lakeland, Fla., and Margaret Eason (Graham) of Wilmington; and brother, George Gray (Judith) of Sanford.
