SANFORD — William “Bill” Jennings Bryan McGugan Jr., age 49, of Sanford died on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church in Sanford with the Rev. Gilbert McDowell and the Rev. George Akers officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford.

Bill was born on January 24, 1963 in Cumberland County, NC to the late William Jennings Bryan McGugan Sr. and Emily Tillinghast McGugan. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville. Bill was the owner and operator of Toadally Teriffic Finds Antique Shop in Cameron, NC. He was an Eagle Scout and held scouting in high regards. He greatly enjoyed searching out and buying great antiques.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Belinda Batchelor McGugan; his sister, Susan McGugan of Fayetteville, NC; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dock and Lorena Batchelor of Sanford; his brother-in-law, Jeffrey Batchelor and wife Kim of Sanford, NC; a niece, Callie Batchelor and a nephew, Jacob Stanley.

WARREN, PA — Carl D. “Gab” Peterson, 87, of Kinzua Rd, Warren, PA, died on Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013 at the Warren Manor.

Gab was born December 25, 1925, in Kinzua, PA, the son of the late Emanuel and Lucy Bianco Peterson. A lifelong area resident, Gab was a 1943 graduate of Warren High School. He then served in the Army during WWII, serving in the European Theatre. Gab was employed with Penelec for thirty-eight years as a load dispatcher, retiring in February 1986. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Sheffield, the Sheffield VFW, the American Legion Post 135, the Eagles Club and formerly a member of the Moose Lodge 109.

He is survived by his wife, Earlene M. Hanna Peterson of Warren, PA, whom he married on June 24, 1949 in Frewsburg, NY; two sons, Craig Peterson and Scott Peterson, both of Sanford, NC; two daughters, Kathi Smith and her husband Derrick, and Shelly Nichols, also both of Sanford, NC; a brother, Ray Peterson of Warren, PA; a sister, Ruth Bennett of Sheffield, PA; four grandchildren, Leslie Smith Moshfegh, Carlton Dane Peterson, Nathan Steven Peterson and Joshua Ross Peterson; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Peterson; and four sisters, Rena Hammond, Doris Jenkins, Ida Dunlap and Viola Plyler.

Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Thursday, January 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 11 at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. David Blank, officiating.

Burial will be in the Willow Dale Cemetery, Bradford, PA.

SANFORD — Angela McLeod, 56, of 2570 Cotton Road, died Wednesday (1/9/13) 2013 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

She was born in Moore County on Nov. 20, 1956, to Bernice Atkins Martin and the late Willie R. “Bill” Martin. She had fought cancer since August 2009. She served on the executive board of the Salvation Army, the Lee County Tax Board of Equalization and Review, and was the first black female to serve as vice chair on the City of Sanford Planning Board and Board of Adjustment. She owned and operated her own real estate company, ALM Realty, while working a successful career as a Legal Assistant for the law offices of Davis & Wilson and Wilson & Reives, PLLC for 33 years before she retired.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her father, are one brother, Robert “Bobby” Martin, and sister, Stassia M. Henderson.

She is survived by her mother, Bernice of Carthage; her husband, Andrae R. McLeod Sr.; son, Phillip B. McLeod of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter Nyree D. Thompson and stepson Andrae Russell McLeod Jr., of Sanford; sisters, Thurlia E. Martin of Sanford and Eydie R. Martin of Durham; brothers, Michael W. Martin of Roanoke, Va., and Jamie M. Martin of Carthage; and four grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas E. Smith Sr. presiding. Interment will follow at Lee Memory Gardens. A wake will be held from 7-8 p.m. today at First Calvary Baptist Church. Friends may visit the family at 2570 Cotten Road.

LILLINGTON — Ida Royal Baggett, 86, died Wednesday (1/9/13) in Lillington.

She was born March 8, 1926, to Pearlie and Letha Royal in Godwin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard M. Baggett; nine brothers and sisters. She retired from Blue Bell Manufacturing.

She is survived by a sister, Madge Butts of Lillington; children, Anna Maria Smith of Coats, Mary Lynn Calfee of Hope Mills, Linda Smith of Wake Forest, Richard Baggett of Greenwood, S.C., and Mark Baggett of Lillington; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home Chapel in Lillington. Burial will follow at Blacks Chapel Cemetery in Godwin. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Ramelle Lambert Duke, 85, who died Tuesday (1/8/13) at The Shannon Gray Rehabilitation & Recovery Center in Jamestown, was conducted Thursday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Pastors Ira Sutton, Philip Blinson and Matt Martin officiating. Burial followed at Lee Memory Gardens.

Soloists were Holly Hinton Blinson and Bethany Hinton Payne.

GOLDSTON — Howard Thomas "Dode" Martin, 81, died Wednesday (1/9/13) at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.

He was born in Rockingham County on March 31, 1931, the son of Drewry and Molly (Watkins) Martin. He lived most of his life in Chatham County and was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. He had worked in construction as a brick mason and was a farmer.

He is survived by five sisters, Louise M. Andrews, Margaret M. Brown and Margie M. Kivett, all of Siler City, Betty M. Thomas of Greensboro, and Peggy M. Pickett of Kemah, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Bear Creek with the Rev. Darrell Garner officiating.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Anna H. “Faye” Darroch, who died Saturday (1/5/13), was held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Chapel Church by Dr. Rudy Holland, the Rev. Tim Murr and the Rev. Joel Murr. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

During the service, the trio of the “Three Pastors,” Dave Cyphert, Tim Murr and Joel Murr, sang, and soloist Gena Carver sang. Pianist was Libbie Murr.

PITTSBORO — Clara Alston, 59, of 2135 Alston Chapel Church Road, died Monday (1/7/13) at her residence.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Alston Chapel United Holy Church in Pittsboro.

She is survived by her mother, Leomie Lee of the home; a son, Morrison Alston Neville of the home; two stepchildren, Dana and Veta Neville of Hillsborough; sister, Ella Mae Allen of Pittsboro; three brothers, Gene A. CARTHAGE — Philip H. “Skip” Vetter III, 68, died Wednesday (1/9/13) at his home.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date.

He was born in Olney, Md., to the late Philip Henry Vetter Jr. and Thelma Lee Vetter. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam and a graphic designer. He operated an art gallery in Southern Pines for many years and also worked for the Ingram Company in Laurinburg as a graphic designer.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Vetter; and one son, Brian Vetter and wife Shannon of Apex.

SANFORD — A memorial service for Randall Kirk Childress, 45, who died Saturday (12/22/12), will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Spivey Family Cemetery.

He was born in Hampton, Va., a son of the late Vernie Ray Childress and Rita Talley Childress. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Kevin Childress.

He is survived by a son, Charles Childress of Sanford; daughter, Ashley Estes of Colorado; five grandchildren; and a brother, Brian Keith Childress of Sanford.
