SIDNEY LEE DEAN

PITTSBORO — Sidney Lee Dean, 80, of Pittsboro, NC died Friday, August 29, 2014.

He was born December 16, 1933 in Granville County, NC to the late Cortez and Florence Dean. Mr. Dean served honorably in the U.S. Army and retired from the U.S. Forestry Service after nearly 38 years of servce.

Sidney is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Dixon Dean of Pittsboro, NC; his son, James Lee Dean and his wife Kathy of Moncure, NC; a sister, Betty Dean McLamb and her husband Nelson of Cary, NC; two grandchildren, Leslee Dean and her significant other Kevin of Apex, NC and Trent and his wife Lisa Cooper of Bynum, NC; and two great-grandchildren, Austin Wilkins and Jayden Cooper.

A visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 1, 2014 at Hall-Wynne Griffin Chapel, Pittsboro, NC.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 2 at 2 p.m. at Chatham United Methodist Church, Pittsboro, with burial following in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Chatham United Methodist Church/Sound System Fund, 1826 Chatham Church Rd., Moncure, NC 27559.

JOAN MARLENE LEGGETT JOHNSON

SILER CITY — Joan Marlene Leggett Johnson, 81, of Siler City, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Universal Health Care in Ramseur after a long courageous struggle.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Rocky River Baptist Church, Siler City with the Rev. Greg Burriss officiating.

A native of Hamilton, North Carolina, Joan was a loving mother, grandmother, dedicated Air Force wife, visionary artist, and an inspiration to all lucky enough to know her. She was also a cherished member of Rocky River Baptist Church. Her light will live on to generations to come. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Hugh and Thelma Mae Edmondson Leggett; stepmother, Viola Price Leggett; brothers, Kenneth and Robert Leggett.

She is survived by her husband, John Allen Johnson of the home; daughters, Jan Love Akers and husband Robert of Asheville, Jill Bryant and husband Henry of Asheboro; son, Jeffery Johnson and wife Crecia of Wake Forest; sisters, Shirley Johnson and husband Richard of Columbus, NC, Sarah Johnson and husband Hal of Mountain City, TN; grandchildren, Lauren Bryant Butterfield and husband Jedidiah of Augusta, GA, Lindsey Bryant Goy and husband Devon of Warrensburg, MO, Alexandra Love of Jindabyne, Australia, Brandon Love of Boulder, CO, Cassie Johnson of Wake Forest; sisters-in-law, Anne Leggett of Hampton, VA, Arlene Leggett of Jacksonville, FL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall to celebrate the extraordinary life of Joanie Johnson.

VASS — Richard Chad Camp, 23, of Vass, died Saturday (8/30/14).

A celebration of life will follow today at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Newton officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

He was born in Charlotte on March 22, 1991. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Billy Lee Camp and Patricia Baker Camp.

He is survived by his parents, Dr. Richard and Kimberly Camp; sisters, Emily Grace Camp and Stephanie Camille Camp, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Carlton and Lois Starnes of Denver; and all of his friends.

SANFORD — Graveside service for Darren Milton Godfrey, 31, of Sanford, who died Thursday (8/28/14), was held Sunday 3:30 p.m. at New Life Fellowship Cemetery with the Rev. John David Stinnett officiating.

John and Ola Stinnett Jr. sang two selections with John on the guitar. Two nieces, Gracie and Lauren Godfrey, sang “Jesus Loves Me” as a tribute to their uncle. The preacher read several eulogies by family members.

Pallbearers were Jason Godfrey, Jeffery Wagner, Josh Hargrove, Randall Godfrey, Nathan Godfrey and Gerald Godfrey.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

SARAH LEE THOMPSON

SANFORD — Sarah Lee Thompson, 51, of Sanford, died Friday (8/29/14) at her home.

She was born on Nov. 6, 1962 in Lee County to the late Norman and Roxie Fornes.

She is survived by one son, Kevin L. Thompson; and one sister, Norma Hunt.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the funeral home would be appreciated to help fund funeral expenses.

SANFORD — Funeral service for James “Frankie” Thomas, 74, who died Wednesday (8/27/14), was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Chapel in Lillington with the Rev. Ernest Hinson, the Rev. Florence Baker and the Rev. Welton Worsham Jr. officiating. Burial was at Harnett Memorial Park.

Musician was the Rev. Worsham Jr.

Pallbearers were Glenn Johnson, Tracy Thomas, Mart Thomas, Caleb Norris, Jordan Norris, Kevin Hilliard, Jerome Hall and Bobby Baker.

JAMES ROBERT HOLDER

SANFORD — Graveside service for James Robert Holder, 77, of Sanford, who died Friday (8/29/14), was conducted Monday at 1 p.m. at Lee Memory Gardens with Pastor Paul Backlund officiating. Eulogy was by son, Bob Holder.

Soloist and guitarist was Swannie Lawrence Jewel.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
