SHERWOOD THOMAS

LAKE OKEECHOBEE, Fla. — Sherwood Thomas, 86, of Lake Okeechobee, Fla., formerly of Sanford, died Friday (4/12/13) at the Hospice of Okeechobee.

He was born in Lee County on Aug. 6, 1926, to the late Vonnie M. Thomas and Olivia Johnson Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Thomas and W.F. “Pete” Thomas. He attended Deep River School and was a member of Zion Christian Church. He served in the Merchant Marines and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Thomas of Florida; one brother, Ted Thomas and wife Fran of Deep River; and four nieces and nephews.

A memorial graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Zion Christian Church cemetery with the Rev. Steve Johnson presiding.

BOBBY G. JOHNSON

LILLINGTON — Bobby G. Johnson, 76, of Lillington, died Tuesday (3/25/14) at the William Dunlap Center in Raleigh.

He was born in Johnston County to the late James and Ethel Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Ruby F. Johnson; four daughters, Barbara Jean Johnson of Oklahoma, Julie J. Mixon and husband William of Washington, Sharon J. Sholder and husband Bryan, and Shelia J. Gifford and husband Jim, all of Lillington; four sons, Bobby Joe Johnson of Oklahoma, C. Michael Johnson of Washington, Kenneth R. Johnson and wife Jean of Kernersville, and Randy C. Johnson and wife Melanie of Lillington; two sisters, Barbara Miller and husband Herbert of Angier, and Janet Parish of Johnston County; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Eyring officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service, and other times at the home. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, N.C. 27607.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Annie Cole McLeod Leonard, 95, of 850 W. Clydemorse Blvd., Daytona  Beach, Fla., died Monday (3/24/14) at Halifax Health Hospice in Port Orange, Fla.

Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Lohman Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.

She is survived by one daughter, Cynthia McLeod of the home.

LILLINGTON — Funeral service for Rex Allen Cockerham Sr., 60, of Lillington, who died Sunday (3/23/14), was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ramon Atkins officiating. Burial followed at Lee Memory Gardens.

Recorded music was played during the service. Soloist was Brooke Cockerham.

Pallbearers were Corie Cockerham, Austin Cockerham, James Cockerham, Charles Cockerham, Don Cockerham and Cody Caligan.

MINNIE WILSON BRADSHER DEAN

LILLINGTON — Minnie Wilson Bradsher Dean, 95, of Lillington, died Tuesday (3/25/14) at her home.

She was born in Granville County, the daughter of the late Fredey Booth and Minnie Anne Haskins Bradsher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thelbert Dean. She and her husband owned and operated Dean’s Grocery in Lillington for many years. She was a member of Lillington Baptist Church and was instrumental in the formation of other ministries (Fellowship Baptist Church and Holden Beach Chapel).

She is survived by her daughters, Janet D. and husband Russ Beabout, and Vivian A. Humphrey; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday at Lillington Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. John Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Lillington.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home and other times at her home.
