CHARLOTTE — Mrs. Hazel Cameron Arrington, age 87, of Knoxville, TN and formerly of Charlotte, passed away on May 2, 2013.

Born in Harnett County, N.C., Hazel was a daughter of the late Pearlie and McBryde Cameron. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Arrington, Jr., and her siblings, Eula Pipkins, Edith Swan, Marcus Cameron, Kenneth Cameron and Anderson Cameron, all of whom she greeted when she opened her eyes in heaven.

Hazel married Richard A. Arrington, Jr. after a courtship at Fort Bragg, N.C. during World War II, and together they raised three children in their home in Charlotte. She was a member of Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Arrington is survived by her children, Rick Arrington and wife Mary Jane, Susan Arrington Seacord and husband Jimmy, and Lisa Arrington Simmerman and husband Seth; six grandchildren and their spouses, Joy Arrington Fanning and husband Steve, Tiffany Arrington, Brandon Seacord Wells and husband Randy, Richard Franklin Simmerman, Kristina Kelly Simmerman and fiancé Tyler Roper, and Erica Blayre Seacord; as well as three great-grandchildren, Hannah Dakota Fanning, Mary Elle Fanning and Presley Panaro.

Hazel's quick wit, charming smile, and twinkle in her blue eyes will be missed and cherished by her beloved family, friends, and neighbors.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 5th from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Harry & Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road, with a service to celebrate her life to follow at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.

SANFORD — Memorial service for Robert “Bobby” Guy Holt, 72, who died Sunday (4/28/13), was conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with the Rev. David Dudley and Warren Carter officiating.

The Timber Creek Band, consisting of Matthew Hardy on banjo, Clyde Prevatte on the bass-fiddle and Daltyn Prevatte on guitar, sang four selections of music. Recorded music of George Jones and Matthew Hardy was played.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.


BROADWAY — Clemellyn Hunter Welch, 68, died Friday (5/3/13) at her home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.


SANFORD — Funeral service for Oscar Ray Thomas, 72, who died Monday (4/29/13) was held at 1 p.m. Friday at Christ Church of Deliverance in Moncure with Apostle Zenobia Crump officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Soloist was Rachael Goldston.

Pallbearers were friends of the family.

BENNETT — Kenneth Edward Brown, 57, of 7065 Howards Mill Road, died Thursday (5/2/13) at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

Funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Michael Poindexter officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

He was born in Chatham County to the late Warren and Beverly Sumner Brown, and worked in maintenance at Edwards Wood Yard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Shields.

He is survived by daughter, Kristen Morgan and husband Jason of Seagrove; son, Shannon Brown of Raleigh; sister, Jane Faulkner and husband Ralph of Burlington; brothers, Ronnie Brown of Asheboro, Bill Brown and wife Janice of Burlington, and Roger Brown and wife Ruby of Bennett; brother-in-law, Robert Shields of Burlington; and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be held today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett and other times at his home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Randolph County or Mt. Zion UMC Cemetery fund.

SANFORD — Memorial service for Larry Paul Combs, 53, who died Monday (4/29/13), was held Friday at 12 p.m. at Countryside Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Kinney officiating. A eulogy was given by Mark Revels.

The pianist was Holly Walton. Soloist was Steve Bristow. The congregation also sang.
