GEORGE WESLEY PARSON

SANFORD — Mr. George Wesley Parson, 85, of Sanford, N.C. died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Parson was born in Lee County, on Dec. 17, 1927, to the late Wesley Thomas Parson and Mary Blalock Parson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Phil, Ed and Garland Parson and sisters, Mae Stone Setzer and Margaret Parson. He was retired as an industrial planner for Allied Chemical. Mr. Parson was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Margaret Jean Howard Parson of the home; two daughters, Faye Halvorsen of Greensboro and Annette Scott and husband Lassie Jr. of Cameron; a brother, Rev. Jesse Parson of Sanford; five grandchildren, L. Scott III and wife Wendy, Wesley Adam Scott and wife Jennifer, Allison Graves Kretlow and husband Phillip, Ruth B. Graves and husband Curtis and Mary E. Halvorsen; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Cool Springs Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The funeral will be held at Cool Springs Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013 with Rev. Matt Martin and Rev. Ira Sutton presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

RALEIGH — Mrs. Lucille McVeigh Potts, age 85, of Raleigh, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Litchford Falls Health Care & Rehab Center in Raleigh, NC.

She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 25, 1927, to the late James J. McVeigh and Lucy Anna Josephine Wilt McVeigh. She was also preceded in death by her husband Thomas Joseph Potts; one son Thomas James Potts; and two siblings, Patricia Williams and James McVeigh. Mrs. Potts was a homemaker.

Mrs. Potts is survived by two sons, Timothy Charles Potts and wife Denise of Alpharetta, GA, Robert Joseph “Bob” Potts and wife Mary Ann of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Luann (Maxson) Portler and husband Joe of Aliquippa, PA; one sister, Ruth Roach of Bridgeville, PA; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 9, 2013, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Stephen The First Martyr Roman Catholic Church in Sanford, NC. The funeral mass will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Robert Ippolito, M.S. officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery.

BROADWAY — Charlie Bert “Charles” Sloan III, age 62, of Broadway, died Friday (5/3/2013) at UNC Hospitals as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident on April 22, 2013.

He was born in Lee County, the son of the late Clara Stone Sloan and Charlie Bert Sloan Jr. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Sloan Peedin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crossroads Ministries with the Rev. Paul Backlund officiating. Burial will follow in the Broadway Town Cemetery.

Surviving are his son, Charlie Bert Sloan IV and wife Teresa of Cumming, Ga.; daughters, Wendy Sloan Phillips and husband Dusty of Broadway, N.C. and Tammy Sloan Palmieri and husband Scott of Holly Springs, N.C.; brothers, Larry Sloan and wife Janet, and Jerry Sloan and wife Bonnie, all of Sanford, N.C.; sisters, Judy Buchanan and husband Joe of Lillington, N.C. and Joyce Sloan and fiance Steve Franks of Broadway; numerous nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Benjamin Douglas, Trey Phillips, Brent and Hope Sloan, Daniel and Ryan Palmieri and great-granddaughter, Nya Douglas.

The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway and other times at the home of Joyce Sloan, 200 Harrington Avenue, Broadway.

CLEMELLYN “CLEM” HUNTER WELCH

BROADWAY — Clemellyn “Clem” Hunter Welch, age 68, of Broadway, died Friday (5/3/13) at her home.

She was born in Lee County, daughter of the late Lewis Clemmons Hunter and Audrey Juanita Womack Hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William “Bill” Kenyon Welch. She was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Campbell University. She was retired from Central Carolina Community College where she served as a Lead Instructor for the English Department. She was a Broadway Town Commissioner and had previously served chair of the Broadway Planning Board and a member of the UDO Joint Planning Board. She was a member and Past President of the Broadway Woman’s Club and attended Crossroads Ministries.

Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. Monday at Crossroads Ministries with the Rev. John Sauls officiating. Burial followed at the Broadway Town Cemetery.

Surviving are her daughter, Wendy Welch Bryan and husband Carl of Broadway, NC; brother, Lewis Carlton Hunter of Sanford, NC; and grandchildren, Pait Bryan and Carrie Ellen Bryan.

SANFORD — James Ralph Holt Sr., 77, of Broadway, died Sunday (5/5/13) at his home.

He was born on Dec. 15, 1935, to the late Challie B. Holt and Molinda Jane Buchanan Holt. He was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva LaMora; a brother, Robert Holt; and a stepson, Steven McNeill. He was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Opal Patterson Holt; a son, Ralph Holt Jr. and wife Belinda of Sanford; a daughter, Michelle Chrisco and husband Steve of Olivia; stepson, Christopher McNeill and wife Wendy of Lynchburg, Va.; brother, Bryant Holt and wife Polly of Sanford; sister, Frances Nobles of Charlotte; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Broadway with the Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating.

PRISCILLA SPENCE JACKSON

LILLINGTON — Priscilla Spence Jackson, 60, died Monday (5/6/13) at Wake County Hospice Center in Raleigh.

A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late Walter David and Martha Graves Spence and was preceded in death by her brother, Joedie Spence, and her sister, Sylvia Temple.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at O’Quinn-Peebles Chapel with the Rev. Ray Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home, and other times at her home.

SANFORD — Archie Cobb, 69, of 801 Harkey Road, died Saturday (5/4/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Siler City with the Rev. Barry R. Gray officiating.

He is survived by his sister, Diane Pettiford (David).

SANFORD — Funeral service for Jeffrey Troy Moses, 46, who died Monday (4/29/13), was held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robbie O'Quinn officiating. Burial followed at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Lillington.

The congregation sang two hymns and Lynn Greene sang one song. There was a time of remembrance and sharing from family and friends.

Pallbearers were Tony Lucus, Bobby Ray Harper, Scott Harper, Chris Hildreth, Dean Rosser and Mike Stone.

SANFORD — Warren Eugene Davis, 65, of 314 S. Third St., died Saturday (5/4/13) at UNC Hospital at Chapel Hill.

He is survived by his fiancée, Mary Lett; his father, Rev. William Y. Davis of Apex; five sisters, Martha (Fred) King of Raeford, Beverly (Ben) Ramero of Spout Springs, Rachel (Craig) Williams of Hampton, Va., Gail (Anthony) Arnold of Broadway and Chem (Tim) Hinton of Apex; six brothers, Clemen (Pam) Donaldson of Fayetteville, Dale (Cynthia) of Wallace, Stephen Donaldson of Broadway, Williams Thomas Davis of Laurinburg, Ronald Watts of Raleigh, Lewis Tucker of New Jersey and Sonny (Kim) Tucker of Kenly; six children he raised as his own; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Broadway. Burial will follow at McDougald Cemetery in Broadway.

SANFORD — Larry Thomas Comer Sr., 64, of Bear Creek, died Saturday (5/4/13) at his home.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rogers Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Eric Davidson. The family will greet friends following the funeral service.

He was born in Logan, W.Va., and preceded in death by his father, Roy T. Comer, and his first wife of 36 years, Dianna Tackett Comer. He attended Mays Chapel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Musslewhite Comer; two sons, Larry T. Comer Jr. and Michael S. Comer and wife Jennifer, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his mother, Merble D. Comer of Sanford; sister, Judy Garrett and husband Roger of Sanford; and  six grandchildren.

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Beth Foushee Noles, 94, died Saturday (5/4/13) at Agape Rehabilitation Center.

She was a daughter of the late Ralph and Mattie Foushee. She was preceded in death by three husbands, John "Jack" Wesley Carter, Daniel Burn Shelly Sr. and Harold James Noles; and two brothers, James Ormand Foushee and Pressley Moore Foushee.

She is survived by her children, Parker W. Carter Sr. and wife Hope G. Carter, and Brenda N. Ronaldson and husband G. Drew Ronaldson; two brothers, Frank Currie Foushee and Ralph Lee Foushee; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Rock Hill.
