DAVID L. CLEVELAND
BURLINGTON — David L. Cleveland, 88, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Twin Lakes Community due to complications with Parkinson's disease.
He was born in Franklinton, KY to the late Horace S. Cleveland and the late Willibel Chilton Cleveland. David served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WWII and graduated from the University of Kentucky as a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He worked as the Director of Development with Atlantic Christian College, now Barton College in Wilson, NC. He was a former member of the Lions Club in Kentucky and North Carolina and a member of Front Street Christian Church in Burlington, NC.
Survivors include his wife of 66 1/2 years, Ellen O'Bannon Cleveland of the home; son, Larry Cleveland and wife Terri of Wilmington; daughter, Nancy Cleveland Fogleman of Greensboro; grandson, John David Fogleman; brother, Robert Cleveland and wife Joan of Winchester, VA.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013 in the Twin Lakes Foley Chapel by Rev. Dace Lewis and Father Mark Menees. The family will receive friends following the service in the Foley Chapel.

SANFORD — Memorial service for Larry Thomas Comer Sr., 64, of Bear Creek who died Saturday (5/4/13), was held Wednesday at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Eric Davidson.
During the service, soloist was Leslie Hanna.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Warren Eugene Davis, 65, who died Saturday (5/4/13), was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Broadway with the Rev. Kenneth Swann officiating. Burial was at McDougald Cemetery.
The church choir sang.
Pallbearers were family and friends.

GEORGE WESLEY PARSON
SANFORD — Funeral for George Wesley Parson, 85, who died Sunday (5/5/13), was held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Cool Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Matt Martin and the Rev. Ira Sutton officiating. Eulogies were given by Allison Kretlow, Ruth Graves, Mary Halvorsen and Becky Howard. Burial followed at the church cemetery with military rites.
Pianist was Steven Sawyer. The congregation sang two selections. The Sawyer Family sang one selection accompanied by Steven Sawyer on the piano.
Pallbearers were Ian Scott, Adam Scott, Randy Sawyer, Jerry Parson, James Phillips and Tommy Sawyer.

DIANE BALA BECK WELCH
SANFORD — Diane Bala Beck Welch, 66, of Cameron died Sunday (4/14/13).
Memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Rogers Memorial Chapel. The family will begin receiving friends at 6 p.m. Thursday.
She was born in Elizabethtown, N.J., daughter of the late Theodore Stanley Bala and Frances Sidaras Bala. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Doye Welch; son, Joseph Keith Beck; three grandchildren; and a brother, Theodore Stanley Bala.
She is survived by two daughters, Laura Doyelene Beck and JoDee Fayette Beck, both of Cameron; two sons, Nicholas Howell Bala and wife Kathleen, and Dale Eugene Welch and wife Gloria; and two sisters, Susan Marie Bala and Lorrain Bala.

PATRICIA LOUISE DREISBACH THOMAS
BROADWAY — Patricia Louise Dreisbach Thomas, 65, died Tuesday (5/7/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.
She was born in Chicago, Ill., daughter of the late Kenneth John Dreisbach and Sara Louise Towers Dreisbach. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Earl J. Thomas.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Garland Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cool Springs United Methodist Church cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue Morris and husband John of Broadway; son, Jeffrey Thomas of Broadway; sister, Linda Woodard of Charlotte; and three grandchildren.

BROADWAY — Funeral service for Clemellyn Hunter Welch, 68, who died Friday (5/3/13), was conducted at 4 p.m. Monday at Crossroads Ministries in Broadway with the Rev. John Sauls officiating. Burial followed at the Broadway Town Cemetery.
During the service, Ryan Barbato was the soloist. Eulogies were given by Wendy Bryan and Carl Bryan.
Pallbearers were Michael Evans, Michael Thomas, Dan McDonald, Jerome Wells, Robert Patterson and James Phillips.

BROADWAY — Funeral service for Charlie Bert Sloan III, 62, who died Friday (5/3/13), was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crossroads Ministries in Broadway with the Rev. Paul Backlund officiating. Burial followed at the Broadway Town Cemetery.
During the service, Trey Phillips, Amanda Douglas and Amber Douglas sang.
Pallbearers were BJ Bullard, Julian Bullard, Chan Peedin, Gary Bullard, Michael Crockett, Robert Diggs, Aaron Suggs and Chris Brett.

MELISSA MCKENZIE ANDERSON
VASS — Melissa "Missy" McKenzie Anderson, 37, died Monday (5/6/13) at her home.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Culdee Presbyterian Church conducted by Dr. Joseph Washburn. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
A native of Moore County, she was a graduate of Union Pines High School and attended Sandhills Community College. She had previously worked at McDonald's and the Alco in Carthage.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Anderson; son, Michael "Mikey" Anderson Jr. of the home; mother, Sue Bullock McKenzie of Vass; father, Dana McKenzie of Southern Pines; brothers, Dana C. McKenzie II of Bristol, Va., Tucker L. McKenzie of Sanford, and Tyler Bowen of Huntington, W.Va.; sister, Nora Grace McKenzie of Elon; maternal grandparents, Lane and Lois Bullock; paternal grandmother, Geraldene McKenzie Abrahamsen.
