SANFORD — Mary Jon Lloyd Herman, 61, died Tuesday (5/14/13) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

CAROL ANN FARRINGTON

DURHAM — Carol Ann Farrington, 58, of 7 Andi Court, died Sunday (5/12/13) at Duke University Hospital in Durham.

She is survived by two sisters, Ada Thomas of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Erma Farrington (Dennis) of Pittsboro; a special friend, Joseph Toomer of Durham; a sister-in-law, Nellie Farrington of Pittsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Terrells Chapel AME Zion Church in Pittsboro. No wake is scheduled.

BERNICE PEARL MARSH BRIGGS

SANFORD — Funeral for Bernice Pearl Marsh Briggs, 94, who died Monday (5/13/13), was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ephesus Baptist Church with Dr. David Boroughs and the Rev. Robert Morrison officiating. Burial followed at Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pianist was Vicki Comer. The congregation sang one selection and the choir sang two selections.

Pallbearers were Eddie Layne, Billy Collins, Duane Jackson, Manny Colavito, Robert Cooke and Charey Barrentine.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

JOAN MARIE PEGRAM REECE

PITTSBORO — Joan Marie Pegram Reece, 76, died Monday (5/13/13).

Born April 5, 1937, in Martinsville, Va., she grew up in Reidsville. She graduated from Elon College in 1962. She retired from the Environmental Protection Agency in Durham. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Pittsboro, where she was a devoted choir member and director of Sunday school. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Vance Jene Reece, and a brother, Ralph Pegram.

She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, L. Vance Reece Jr.; children, Martha Reece Collins and Jeffrey Martin Reece; son-in-law, Larry Cooper; daughters-in-law, Julie Machesky and Helena Bowes; eight grandchildren; and siblings, Chester Pegram, Wayne Pegram, Gail Hoecherl and Mona Brannon.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. The family will receive guests at a reception in the church fellowship hall after the ceremony.

Interment will be at a later date in Dan View Cemetery in Eden during a private family gathering.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, 1785 Mount Gilead Church Road, Pittsboro, N.C. 27312.

DOUGLAS ARCHIE YARBOROUGH

SANFORD — Funeral service for Douglas Archie Yarborough was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Flat Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary McCullough officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Two special songs were performed by Britton Buchanan. Gail Luck played the piano. Remembrances were given by Anna Patton and Danielle Riddle.

Pallbearers were Tommy Holder, Ken Dull, Tony Venable, Daniel McFarland, Richard Harrison and Perry McFarland.

Arrangements were by Miller-Boles Funeral Home.
