SANFORD — Mary Jon Lloyd Herman, 61, of Sanford passed away suddenly Tuesday evening, May 14, 2013 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Herman was born in Orlando, Fla., and preceded in death by her father, Max Lloyd and her husband, Ken Herman. Mary Jon was a graduate of Sanford Central High School and UNC Chapel Hill. She was known by all for her ability of lighting up any room with her smile and her staying upbeat thru her illness.

Mrs. Herman is survived by her mother, Gladys Fields Weaver of Sanford; brother, Frank Lloyd and wife Janet of Durham; two nieces, Dr. Karen Lloyd and husband Dr. Andrew Steen of Knoxville, TN, and Susan Fields of Brattleboro, VT; one nephew, Finley Lloyd of Greensboro; and a sister-in-law, Jennifer Heath and husband Stan of Raleigh.

The family will greet friends following the memorial service in the Colonnade at First Presbyterian Church.

SANFORD — Hayden Leo Luxton, 82, died Wednesday (5/15/13) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

He was born in Chatham County, son of the late Virgil Luxton and Fannie Budd Smith Luxton.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home in Moncure with the Rev. Bruce Parsons and the Rev. John Chavis officiating. Burial will follow at the Lee’s Chapel Church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Perry Luxton; daughters, Alicia “Lisa” Martin (David) and Renee L. Cotton (Keith), all of Sanford; son, Hayden Perry Luxton of Sanford; sisters, Gracie Luxton McLeod and Helen Luxton Williams, both of Sanford; brother, James Louis Luxton (Joyce) of Durham; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home in Moncure.

BEAR CREEK — Funeral service for George Winford Minter, 70, who died Friday (5/10/13), was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Knotts Funeral Home in Pittsboro with Pastor Phyllis Carter. Burial was at Minter Cemetery at Old Taylor’s Chapel.

The New Creation Choir sang and soloist was Florence Chesney.

Pallbearers were Danny Goldston, Ernest Reaves, Ronnie Tyson, Rodney Tyson, Fritz McIver, Chris Monroe and Howard McLeod.

PITTSBORO — Funeral service for Ernest Snipes, 87, who died Saturday (5/11/13), was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Andrews Congregational Church in Pittsboro with the Rev. Janer Beck officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Musicians were Larry Murray and the church choir.

Pallbearers were deacons of the church and friends of the family.

SANFORD — Graveside service for Yvonnie Reich Greenwood, who died Monday (5/13/13), was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Center United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Chris Humphreys.

During the service, soloist was David Mellnik.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Nancy Louise Clark Ridenhour, 70, who died Monday (5/13/13), was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Barbecue Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Alexander “Sandy” Williams. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

During the service, the congregation sang and soloist/guitarist was Tracy Thomas. Rev. Williams read special comments written by her daughter-in-law and granddaughters. Pianist was Dorothy Hales.

Pallbearers were Sammy Ray Brafford Jr., Chris Brinkley, James Burnette, Travis Cole, Steven Deskins and Ron Manseau.
