SANFORD — Hazel Pittman Cashion Medlin, 86, died Wednesday (5/22/13).

She was born in Lee County on Aug. 4, 1926, to the late Morris F. Pittman and Lilla B. Dickens Pittman. She was a member of East Sanford Baptist Church and served as the church choir director for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger M. Medlin; former husband, Charles L. Cashion Sr.; son, Charles L. Cashion Jr.; brothers, Jack Pittman and Bernard Pittman; and sisters, Ernie Thomas, Grace Rollins, Pauline Sherwood and Mildred Wicker.

She is survived by a son, Barry W. Cashion and wife Barbara of Sanford; a daughter, Susan Cashion Keith and husband Mike of Sanford; a sister, Ruby Blakeley of Sanford; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at East Sanford Baptist Church from 2 to 3 p.m. today, one hour prior to the service, and the funeral will follow at 3 p.m. in the church. Burial will follow at Pineywood Baptist Church Cemetery.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Roy McCormick Bell, 58, who died Sunday (5/19/13), was conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barbecue Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sandy Williams and the Rev. Garland Smith officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

During the service, the eulogy was given by Zachary Hinkle. Joey Holmes was the pianist, Dorothy Hales was organist and the congregation sang.

Pallbearers were Ryan Hinkle, Zach Hinkle, Cody Hinkle, Kaitlyn Hinkle, Jason McCoy and Eric Blaesing.

OLIVIA — Johnnie Lucas, 89, of 62 Lucas Lane, died Wednesday (5/22/13) at home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Watson Memorial/Cunningham & Sons Mortuary.


MONCURE — Funeral service for Bettie Mae “Sue” Parra, 66, of Fletcher, who died Friday (5/17/13) at the Four Season Elizabeth House Hospice and Pallative Care, was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Haywood Independent Bible Church with the Rev. Terry Pleasants officiating. Burial followed at Lee Memory Gardens.

Melanie Goodwin was the pianist.

Pallbearers were Billy Olinger, Albert Parra, Willie Parra, Johnathan Parra, Jackie Sanderford and Carl Bennett Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were Pauley Sanderford and Jerry Olinger.

She was born in New Hanover County on June 9, 1945, daughter of Norma Gray Davis Olinger. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Erie Parra; sons, Albert Parra III and Willie Parra, both of Gwinnett County, Ga.; sisters, Diane “Gingle” Bennett (Carl) of Moncure, Tootie Sanderford of New Hill, Francis Sandoval of Fayetteville and Patsy Riley of Westminster, S.C.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

SANFORD — Memorial service for Lucian Issac Clark Jr., 92, who died Sunday (5/19/13), was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rogers Memorial Chapel by Pastor Jamie Pearce.

During the service, the trio of Alyssa David, Billy Mickle and Bobby Gales sang. Bobby Mickle was guitarist and Billy Mickle played the banjo.

Honorary pallbearers were Wade Butner, Paul Freedle, Greg Hall, Ralph Hall, Larry Reives, Garrett Screws and Joe Thomas.

ERWIN — Odis Thomas Temple, 73, died Wednesday (5/22/13) at his residence.  

After 38 years with the Department of Corrections, he retired as the Assistant Superintendent at Harnett Correctional Institution. He was also a lifelong farmer.

Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Bunnlevel Presbyterian Church with the Rev. JoAnne Lee officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Westview Memorial Gardens.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Spence Temple; and parents, Hermon and Frances Stewart Temple.

He is survived by his son, Lanny Odis Temple of Erwin; one grandson; two brothers, Jesse Worth Temple and wife Judy of Winchester, Va., and Frank Temple and wife Jenny of Emporia, Va.
