CLARA MAE CHEEK HARRIS

SANFORD — Clara Mae Cheek Harris, 86, of Sanford, N.C., died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at her home.

Mrs. Harris was born in Chatham County on Aug. 21, 1926, to the late William Spinks Cheek and Mamie Davis Cheek. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Clyde Cheek and William Cheek. She was the owner/operator of the Wilrik Beauty Shop. She later retired from the North Carolina Education System where she had been a school secretary and teachers assistant. She was a dedicated and beloved wife of 65 years. She was active in her church and community.

Surviving relatives include her husband, L. Reid Harris of the home; sons, Lynn R. Harris and wife Pam of Spartanburg, S.C. and W. Scott Harris of Hilton Head, S.C.; daughter, Carolyn H. Wood of Virginia Beach, Va.; brothers, Ray M. Cheek and wife Evelyn of Asheboro and Earl Cheek and wife Ruby of Cameron; four grandchildren: Bryan Wood, Kevin Wood, Lauren Harris Brown and husband Chad, Austin Harris and wife Lindsey and daughter Ellie.

The funeral service will be at the First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wendell McGee and Col. Charlie Hicks officiating. Visitation will be before the funeral from 9:30 a.m. till the funeral hour. Burial will follow at Meroney United Methodist Church Cemetery, 10568 NC Hwy. 902, Bear Creek, N.C. 27207.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 203 Hawkins Ave., Sanford, N.C. 27330 or to Community Home Care and Hospice, 809 Wicker St., Sanford, N.C. 27330.

JEAN WOMBLE BARNES

SANFORD — Funeral service for Jean Womble Barnes, 74, who died Thursday (5/23/13), was held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Tramway Baptist Church with Dr. John Allen officiating. Burial followed at Grace Chapel Church Cemetery.

Pianist was Patsy Phillips. The congregation sang three selections. A eulogy was given by Brian Barnes.

Pallbearers were Brian Barnes, Josh Barnes, Justin Barnes, Aaron Barnes, Steven Barnes, Todd Womble and Ryan Shackelford.

The family received friends and family at Tramway Baptist Church Fellowship Hall following the burial.

WARREN EDGAR SEITZ

PITTSBORO — Warren Edgar Seitz, 91, died Sunday (5/26/13). Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Hall–Wynne Funeral Service and Cremation of Pittsboro.

DOROTHY WAGNER FARRELL

PITTSBORO — Dorothy Wagner Farrell, 90, died Saturday (5/25/13) at her home.

She was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Wake County, the daughter of William Wilson Wagner and Ethel L. Jenks Wagner. She worked for 20 years as a medical secretary at Mathiesen Clinic in Pittsboro, and had also worked as a bookkeeper for Tar Heel Drug Company. She was a member of Pittsboro United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Norris Farrell Sr.

She is survived by her sons, Bill Farrell of Apex, John Farrell of Sanford and Mike Farrell of Beaufort, S.C.; daughters, Sadie McLaurin of Bear Creek and Ethel Farrell of Fuquay; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ, with Pastors Bob Wachs, Ray Gooch and Ben Alexander presiding.  Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 2 until 2:45 p.m. today at the church, or at other times at the home on Thompson Street in Pittsboro.

STRAUGHN SCOTT WHITAKER

PITTSBORO — Straughn Scott Whitaker, 62, of Old Sanford Road, died Friday (5/24/13) at home.

He was born July 8, 1950, in Chatham County, the son of William Straughn Whitaker and Frances Wilda Chester Whitaker. He was a 1968 graduate of Pittsboro High School, where he played quarterback for the football team. Following high school, he attended Sandhills Community College. He was a member of Pittsboro Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his sons, Kain Whitaker and wife Ashley, and Kurt Whitaker, all of Pittsboro; brother, Don Whitaker of Pittsboro; sister, Clara Lynn Whitaker Richardson and husband Hank of Pittsboro; four nephews and one niece.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Pittsboro Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Troy Lesher-Thomas will preside. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the residence of Clara Lynn and Hank Richardson.

AMOS BLAIR YANDLE

CHARLOTTE — Amos Blair Yandle, 86, died Saturday (5/25/13) at home.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Addie Milks Yandle; brothers, Robert Yandle of Sanford and Marshall Yandle of Charlotte; and a sister, Sarah Blair of Charlotte.

He was retired as a brick mason by trade.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Amity Presbyterian Church in Charlotte.
