SANFORD — Kathleen “Kay” Midgett Miller, 94, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Carolina Medical Center in Pineville, NC.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Dr. Gene Cobb officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery.

Mrs. Miller was born March 1, 1919 in Pasquotank Co., NC to William Frank Midgett and Margaret Susan Wright Midgett. She was the Valedictorian of Elizabeth City High School in 1935. She was one of two tapped into Kappa Nu Sigma Honor Society in 1938, her junior year at Meredith College. She married Robert “Bob” L. Miller, June 11, 1942. She was a member of the former Steele Street United Methodist Church and was the chairman of the committee that renamed the church St. Luke United Methodist Church. She was also the chairman of the pastor-parish committee that hired the first associate pastor, Rev. Ed Gunter. She was a member of the building committee for the Casey Chapel and was the first woman to be chairman of the administrative board of the church. Kay was an avid bridge player and was a duplicate bridge life master. She was the owner of Miller Funeral Home from 1964-1978 and was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert “Bob” L. Miller, Sr.

She is survived by her son, Bob L. Miller, Jr. and his wife Linda of Pinehurst, NC; her daughter, Beverly M. Badgett of Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren, Jim Robertson and his wife Leigh of Pasadena, TX, Michelle Rogers and husband David of Weddington, NC, Alyson Wright and husband Kevin of Wesley Chapel, NC, and her great-granddaughter, Natalie Kathleen Rogers of Weddington, NC.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday, May 31, 2013 at Miller-Boles Funeral Home.

SANFORD — Barbara Covington, 60, of 1296 Hooker St., died Tuesday (5/28/13) at her residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Knotts Funeral Home.


SANFORD — Michelle Rose Chevier, 46, died Monday (5/27/13) at her residence.

She was born April 27, 1967, to the late Emmett and Mary Bruno Chevier in Oneida, N.Y.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Chevier of Ceres, Calif.; son, Jason Chevier of Sanford; brothers, Mark Chevier, Mike Chevier and Matt Chevier, all of Oneida, N.Y.; sister, Mary Lou Bobrosky of North Ridge, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Boles Chapel. Interment will follow at Buffalo Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home.

STAR — Masie Dunn, 66, died Sunday (5/26/13) at Hospice of Asheboro.

Funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Green Grove United Church of God in Star. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Elwood Dunn; children, Genna Dunn, Ronda Dunn, Rachel Dunn, Anthony Dunn, Jonathan Dunn, Jeffery Dunn, Reginald Dunn and Vincent Dunn; and 30 grandchildren.

LILLINGTON — Otis P. Freedle, 84, died Wednesday (5/29/13) at WakeMed in Raleigh.

He retired from the U.S. Army as Sgt. First Class and was a member of the Red Hat’s Parachute Test Corps., serving during the Vietnam War. After his military retirement, he worked in various occupations, including N.C. Dept. of Corrections, a Master Golf Craftsman and was a friend of The PGA Tour. He was an artist, working in oils and sketching, a writer, and was an avid photographer. He was a member of the Ephesus Presbyterian Church.

Memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Ephesus Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bert Pitchford officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall, and other times at his home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a church or charity of one’s choice.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie Holder Freedle; two daughters, Lisa Hinkle and husband John of Sanford, and Cathy Tuggle and husband Dwayne of King; three sons, Eric Freedle and Paul Freedle and wife Kathy, all of Sanford, and David Freedle of Spring Lake; brother, Bob Freedle of Nevada; sisters, Elfrieda Valentino of Wisconsin and Janice Bellows of New Mexico; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
